Former 'Superman' Dean Cain Shares Thoughts On MAN OF STEEL & Henry Cavill

The folks from On the Red Carpet recently caught up with the actor behind the popular 90s portrayal of 'Superman,' in the Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman Tv series, Dean Cain, at the premiere of Immortals. And of course, Cain commented on Warner Bros.' Man Of Steel and it's new leading star, Henry Cavill. Check out what the actor has to say in the below video.

"I think it'll be a nice rebirth of the franchise," Cain told OnTheRedCarpet.com host Chris Balish. "I think (Cavill will) probably do a fantastic job. I really have no idea though, ask me after I see it and I can tell you a lot more. The role is a big, giant role, there's so much to it. He's a classically trained Brit so I understand. I think he's going to be fine. The challenges for him are going to be miniscule."

"I want to see this in [Immortals], see how it goes - I want to see how Henry does," Cain said. "I get a lot of questions about that kid, he's taking over the Superman mantle - I've never seen him in a film, and the film looks great, and I want to check it out and just see it. They wouldn't have cast him, I don't think, unless he was somebody with some substance."

Man Of Steel, under Zack Snyder's direction, stars Henry Cavill (Clark Kent), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Kevin Costner (Jonathan Kent), Michael Shannon (General Zod), Antje Traue (Faora), Julia Ormond (Lara Lor-Van), Russell Crowe (Jor-El), Harry Lennix (General Swanwick), with Christopher Meloni (Colonel Hardy) and Laurence Fishburne (Perry White). And while solid story details are currently being kept underwraps, the reboot releases on June 14, 2013!

Dean Cain was terrible as Superman. All the posing and arm folding, Reeve new the suit could sell the concept not comic book poses. Also his belt and boots were wrong.

Dean was never Superman. He was somebody dressing up for a part in a Halloween play. Talk to Routh or Welling before him... make that INSTEAD of him. Nobody cares Dean. You can go now.

Why so much hate on Dean?

For a guy like me in my early 20s Dean Cain was one of the first times i saw Superman on screen. I remember watching his show as a kid and i have the first and last seasons on DVD.

I think he did a great job.

and everybody talking shit about go back to your tables, youre old news blah blah; the dude the Superman. Once you've accomplished that, and in my opinion, did it well, you can ride that out the rest of your life. Notice how the guy ended the interview w "Superman Dean Cain".

He might not be the richest or most popular actor, but not too many guys can say theybe been Superman. Id take his career.

Henry was okay in immortals sucked that he had a poorly written script, the story felt like pot holes was everywhere. its a good visual, but bad as Greece's economy.

Highly underrated as Supes. I enjoyed Lois and Clark. If anyone was horrible on that show it was the guy who played Lex. He was garbage.

@MrEko I'm with you 100% growing up in the 90's Cain's Superman ingrained in me that "Clark is who he was, and Superman was what he could do" I always hated the idea that Clark was the disguise, a big reason why people feel distant from the character.

But for the first 2.5 seasons that show was great, after that it all went to shit. But great in the beginning.

Cain was kind of blah for me as Superman. Too cheesy and not imposing at all.

Reading between the lines, it sounds like he has his reservations about Cavill.

is dean as good as chistopher? hello no but uh.....

Welling was NEVER supes!!! He had his shot and wasted it !! You can tell he was too embarased to wear the whole outfit. Why tease the whole damn thing in the fortress when we never saw it ??? friggin lame!

DEAN just might have worn the supersuit more than george reeves did??? He was a fantastic clark if you like the shows approach to the character.
Teri hatcher was the hottest and best lois lane EVER!!!
period game over!!!!
