IRON MAN 3 Filming Update; Potential Scene Details

(UPDATED) In addition to potential scene details from last week's shoot, here's an update in regards to who, what, when & where Iron Man 3 will be filming next week in North Carolina!

Halted for the weekend, filming for Iron Man 3 was in full swing last week over in Wilmington, North Carolina, not only disclosing a few movie details, but also exposing a patriotic foe. And now On Location Vacation has learned when & where next week's shoot will take place, while WECT knows who & what'll be filmed.

WECT reports: Iron Works productions plans to film at least one [driving] scene of Iron Man 3 in Cary next week. The production's Assistant Location Manager Ben Stolte requested four motorcycle officers from the Town of Cary to escort a caravan down the street as crews are filming and to briefly hold traffic at a few intersections they would cross in the process.

Twitter user @WannaRubaDdub tells OLV: Iron Man 3 is expected to film scenes on Caitboo Ave behind Crossroads Cinema in Cary, N.C. on Monday (6/4) and Tuesday (6/5) from 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. And yes, Robert Downey Jr. will be there!

UPDATE: According to OLV once again, The local news is reporting filming will take place on June 6th, around the “SAS campus likely using Harrison Avenue, Cary Parkway or Weston Parkway.” Another tipster also emailed us some more details writing, “Iron Man 3 will be filming at SAS in Cary, NC on Monday through Wednesday. There will be lots of extras and minimal overnight security presence.”

And more interestingly, in regards to what the scene(s) Iron Patriot consisted of last Wednesday, "trusted" sources tell OLV: They’ve been filming in studio (except tues when they did 1 day on location) Iron patriot scene was at the ILM airport Tues — The scenes were the president arriving with military and secret service..

The first image pictured below, filming at the Wilmington International Airport last week just may support the claim that the president will have some sort of role on-screen in Iron Man 3. If so, it likely won't be President Obama himself, but I wouldn't rule out a lookalike; although none were spotted on-set. What do you think?

Described as a “technological crisis thriller,” set in the world of international war, arms & terror, Marvel Studios' “Iron Man 3” stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Andy Lau, Ashley Hamilton, James Badge Dale, with Sir Ben Kingsley and Jon Favreau. Shane Black (“Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”) takes over directorial duties from Jon Favreau, who helmed the first two “Iron Man” films. Principal photography will occur primarily in North Carolina and China. And “Iron Man 3” is set for release in May 3, 2013.

I doubt it's Iron Patriot. Sounds more like Detroit Steel to me.

It's Coldblood in an Iron Patriot suit.
Doesn't look like Detriot Steel.
And the name doesn't fit here.

Yeah that probably is Detroit Steele. The design resembles that more than iron patriot.

That does not look anything like the Iron Patriot armor. The paint does not match up. And they have seem to be getting things right in this franchise.

Or could be a combo of both characters

You've got to be blind if you think that's Detriot Steel.

@Zombie137

Maybe they changed the color scheme so that the blue is more prominent. Especially since Iron Man's primarily red. It's not like Marvel Studios haven't made radical (yet amazingly brilliant) alterations.

The fact that the character is Eric Savin (a cyborg and veteran) elimates the need to be "combined" with Detriot Steel. I mean, he's an injured vet whose been assigned with piloting a suit of armor. The name Iron Patriot makes a whole lot of sense.

Plus it's clear that they're gearing up for Superhero Registration / Civil War -- so Iron Patriot has to come into play some time.

I think it's an amalgam of detroit steel and iron patriot. Leaning WAY toward DS and just using IP to keep it closer to IM

OMG can you guys imagine the sickness that would be a final scene involving Iron Man, War Machine, Detroit Steel, and Rescue?

Unless Justin Hammer is there naming it Detroit Steel ('cuz he's nerdy like that), I don't see him ever being called that while this film takes place in Miami. And I still don't see how people think his aesthetic matches Detroit Steel more. He looks like Iron Patriot!

Please be an adaptation of Armor Wars with Extremis thrown in the mix. That would be perfection.

Eric Savin (Coldblood-7) is the new "pilot" of Iron Patriot.
Curmudgeon
Curmudgeon - 6/2/2012, 10:55 AM
I think it IS a version of the Iron Patriot suit, but its just in there as a nod to the comics.

I'm expecting it to be an early / opening scene. A Government demonstration of its armor tech knock-off, that probably goes horribly wrong, leaving Savin mangled/crippled. Enter: Dr. Killian, offering Savin an experimental treatment called Extremis...

Gotta accept the fact that they are combing characters in MCU Eric Savin will be Iron Pattiot cause it sounds more closely linked to Iron Man more so than Detroit Steele & because they don't have the rights to Osborne and just like Mallen will probably be combined to Dr. Killian or Firepowers, hell Ben Kingsleys Mandarin might be combined Mallen who knows how they are going to make DR. Killian, Firpower, Colblood/Iron PAtriot as villains and how they will fit some form of Mandarin as a puppet master work as Villain...

I agree with your opening scene. You're probably right.

@cashsteel

I like where you're going with this. Jack Taggart (Firepower) maybe the man assigned with redesigning the War Machine armor (adding more firepower). Then, Iron Man comes in and destroys the Arc Reactor (only one the military has). Cue Aldrich Killian. And like you said, maybe The Mandarin infuses himself with Extremis. His Ten Rings could be an Arc Reactor-like power source.

I try not to be rude on here but this is driving me crazy. You gotta dumb AND blind to say that the suit resembles more Detroit Steel than the Iron Patriot armor.All they did was make reverse the colors to make the blue more prominent than the red. Although I'm open to the possibilty that the origin of the suit may somewhat be an composite of both.

Okay, I'm new here and a comic fan for years. I've got a question about a plot possibility that I've been thinking about and thought I'd toss out to see if anyone else finds it plausible. What if IM3's plotline is starting the process of weaving several story arcs together for another Avengers movie, the way the other movies (IM, IM2, Cap and Thor) did? What if the 'high-tech' thriller plot sets up a tie-in across several movies that will bring us 'new' characters like Hank Pym and Ultron? Wouldn't a threat like that present the 'intimate' threat from within that Whedon spoke about being a potential focus in the next Avengers movie? As opposed to a 'cosmic' threat like Loki and Thanos - saving him for the third Avengers movie? That framework would also provide a setup for some sort of story that would involve Coulson returning as a re-imagined Vision that would fit better in the MCU on screen? Be gentle...any thoughts?

I doubt the suit is neither Iron Patriot or Detroit Steel.

It might take inspiration from those but i honestly think its just some special prototype uniform made for some happening/celebration ceremony.
Tony getting the idea for the style from Captain America or something.

Eric Salvin or Selvin or whatever is just a soldier who is going to demonstrate this suit´s abilities but then steals it for some reason or gets in the accident with it and he is transformed into super soldier cyborg by Guy Pearce or Ben Kingsley.

Curmedgeon@ That sounds good and makes sense.

@3D
I dig the plot theories, I feel like Eric Savin/Iron Patriot will be the test dummy he'll be soldier who either wants to get injected to fight IRon Man or he'll get injured badly fighting Iron Man as Iron Patriot, Killain injects Savin first before he later injects himself, Taggart(Firepower) may be a plant by Mandarin who will be working behind the scenes like a Lex Luthor type setting him uo for Iron Man 4...

Bwah ha ha ha ha...that's not Detroit Steel. Detroit Steel looks NOTHING like that. That's the Iron Patriot with a slightly different paint job and design for the movie...just like they changed the paint/design of Iron Man and War Machine for the movie.

Detroit Steel would look more like one of the Hammer drones from IM2; it would look more like mech/gundam suit than an Iron Man suit.

@CaptainSweatpantkay
I like the idea of using movie to introduce new characters but not Iron Man 3 they already have the possibility of having new villains in Iron Patriot, Firepower, Killain, and maybe some form of Mandarin plus new character like Andy Lau's scientist and Rebecca Halls Maya Hansen and not to mention reintegrating Pepper and Rhody/War Machine...

Ant-Man since he can be introduced as an agent of SHIELD will either have his own movie or they introduce him in Cap 2 or Avengers 2(good luck with that cluster)

@CaptainSweatpants

I've said the same things over and over on this site and I'm glad someone is thinking the same. So, yes, I think you're right. After The Avengers, the World Security Council (WSC) is wary about superheroes fighting their battles. With IM3 (about nanotech) starting off Phase Two, we're definitely headed down the direction of Superhero Registration. The WSC wants more "controllable" superheroes (cyborgs!). Cue Iron Patriot, Ultron (Ant-Man is around the corner), MODOK (Captain America 2?), and Vision.

Especially after "avenging Phil Coulson". The next step is "resurrection" (cyborgs!). And whatever that may entail.

I've also been trying to make the point that Thanos will not be a villain in any upcoming Avengers film. Like you said, Joss Whedon wants the sequel to be "smaller, more personal". And Kevin Feige wants Civil War by The Avengers 3. Ultron is that more "personal" threat. He has called Hank Pym "father" before.

Thanos is Galactus-level (since Fox owns Galactus). So, he's more likely to be an antagonist of Guardians Of The Galaxy (the cosmic-scoped Avengers). Anyway, Thanos' beef is with Asgard since the Tesseract and Infinity Gauntlet are there. That way Marvel Studios can have two story-lines going: cosmic and Earth-based.

You know, everything you said in your post from "would look like a Hammer drone" to "gundam" is exactly what I wanted to say.
