As the announcement finally confirms, principal photography for the next installment to Marvel Studios' cinematic universe, Iron Man 3 is currently underway, now in Cary, North Carolina. Although stars have yet to be spotted, video news coverage and set reports showcasing set prep may hint at the threequel's new setting; a setting that director Shane Black has used on four of his seven screenplays. WRAL news site reports:
Scenes were being shot inside and outside the Epic Games studios, where a large Christmas tree was set up on the front lawn. Fans, along with camera-toting paparazzi photographers, lined up outside the Epic Games studios, where a convoy of RVs, trailers and tents had set up camp. Star Don Cheadle, who plays James "Rhodey" Rhodes, was reportedly at the shoot in Cary Monday.
To be exact, the four screenplays that Shane Black has written revolving around the holiday season includes
Lethal Weapon, The Last Boy Scout, The Long Kiss Goodnight and, Robert Downey Jr.-starrer,
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. While those films may not seem vital to holiday viewing, they've all been praised "worthy of a Christmas."
Regarding who you may see on-set today, and potentially in set photos, supporting the above mention that 'James Rhodes' star Don Cheadle is in town, Twitter user @MikeHill91 has tweeted the following:
Described as a “technological crisis thriller,” set in the world of international war, arms & terror, Marvel Studios' “Iron Man 3” stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Andy Lau, Ashley Hamilton, James Badge Dale, with Sir Ben Kingsley and Jon Favreau. Shane Black (“Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”) takes over directorial duties from Jon Favreau, who helmed the first two “Iron Man” films. Principal photography will occur primarily in North Carolina and China. And “Iron Man 3” is set for release in May 3, 2013.
