The second day of prowling the set, yesterday, onlookers eagerly awaiting sightings of Iron Man 3 stars finally caught a little action unfolding on the Cary, North Carolina set. While various sources have detailed the scenes filmed, Reel Movie Nation spotted Iron Patriot, who was first outed during filming in Wilmington.

"Me and a few friends were at Epic Game from 6am-6pm. We spotted RDJ three times walking around dribbling a basketball and reading a script. They filmed inside the WHOLE time until the last 30 minutes we were there they filmed a scene with 3 soldiers shooting firearms. And yes, it really was RDJ his identity was confirmed to us by a Marvel employee." - via Kristen from On Location Vacation

"We joined the crowd and peered at what we could see of a scene being shot. We saw it’s during Christmas (complete with fake snow), and there were people in army uniforms shooting guns!"
via Nautics

"Shortly after shooting outside, crew members began moving upstairs for another scene, and I saw a very familiar figure through the window. That’s right. Iron Patriot was at AIM! What he was doing there is anybody’s guess." - via Reel Movie Nation

Regarding where filming will occur next, WECT reports that the Iron man 3 production crew will be back in Wilmington next week. Issuing a permit to film at the National Gypsum on Sunnyvale Drive for several days, 91 extras and 3 cast members will be involved in the scenes. The scenes are described as "exterior building scenes involving special effects and stunts." Check out the photos from yesterday's shoot below!

UPDATE: As mentioned directly above, next week's filming will return the production to Wilmington, NC. And now NBC-17 news have sighted set preparations at the location, hinting that the shoot will double for China!

Described as a “technological crisis thriller,” set in the world of international war, arms & terror, Marvel Studios' “Iron Man 3” stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Andy Lau, Ashley Hamilton, James Badge Dale, with Sir Ben Kingsley and Jon Favreau. Shane Black (“Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”) takes over directorial duties from Jon Favreau, who helmed the first two “Iron Man” films. Principal photography will occur primarily in North Carolina and China. And “Iron Man 3” is set for release in May 3, 2013.

I liked the first Iron Man up until he escaped the desert, the rest I couldn't stand. I believe it will be a good film, because he and Marvel know that IM2 was bad so they're trying to redeem themselves.

I really don't understand how people think that Iron Patriot would ever fit into this. It is possible but Detroit Steel works so much better with what we know about Iron Man 3 and what has already been established in Iron Man 2.

Plus in order to even pilot Detroit Steel, the user needs to be a cyborg. ColdBlood is a damn cyborg and the person in the suit is the same guy that was cast as ColdBlood.

The only similarity I see is that it is a re-armed Iron Man based armor. Hammer did that same thing with War Machine and this definitely is an updated War Machine. Hammer built Detroit Steel.

@RamonSuarez, could AIM be the new HYDRA in Cap 2? Maybe they found Bucky and made him Winter Soldier? And they rebuilt Arnim Zola! They steal Vanko's robot prototypes and make them into suits! Klaw! He gets tech from AIM!

I like the idea of AIM connecting IM3, CA2, Antman and Black Panther together.

gmoney@ Iron Patriot IS a suit. it's propaganda. that's how it fits.

and i'm pretty sure Iron Patriot IS in this film. we're looking at him.

Phase Two builds up to Superhero Registration. Ultron will feature in The Avengers 2. We left off with World Security Council unsatisfied with superheroes. Cyborgs are a more "controllable" method. AIM could be employed to development a line of Iron Patriots, anti-superhuman weapons, etc. So expect ALOT of dark mirrors in the upcoming films.

Believe what you want to people. He won't be called Detroit Steel (maybe Hammer would name it this, but he ain't in the movie). He'll be called Miami Steel before that ever happens. And if you think he looks more like Detroit Steel than Iron Patriot -- you're blind. The fact that he's already Coldblood-7 eliminates the need to be combined with Detroit Steel as well.

@Gmoney84

Eric Savin (Coldblood-7) is a US serviceman. If he's an injured veteran in the film, becomes a cyborg, and wears this red-white-and-blue Iron Man-based suit -- he'll likely be called Iron Patriot. Makes a lot of sense.

And Marvel is rewriting things with their cinematic universe. The Iron Patriot suit is beyond the "user" (Norman Osborn). Here, it will accomplish it's goal. Since we're headed towards Superhero Registration. So... Iron Patriot has to come into the picture eventually.

gmoney84@ that's actually actor James Badge Dale in the suit... would you like to keep stating your opinion as fact? or is this enough to make you stop telling us what is and isn't going to be in the movie?

@Gmoney84

Didn't everyone say that was James Badge Dale in the suit? I don't think Tony Stark will ever put on that suit. He's all about that hot-rod red! And after what happened to War Machine (Hammer tech problems) -- I don't think he'll ever put a gun like that on his back.

Saying that we are looking at Iron Patriot is like watching Whiplash in Iron Man and saying it's Omega Red.

If they are going to build a line of Iron Patriots, right there it is way more like Detroit Steel. And of course they won't call it by name.

Either way, This movie is shaping up very interesting and I really hope it's awesome. And with Thor 2 and Cap 2 well under way, I've never been so excited for any movie franchise.
