The first official trailer has been released for crime thriller Alex Cross, based on the novel Cross by James Patterson, in addition to a one-sheet poster. Although not your typical comic book adaptation, The Fast and the Furious director Rob Cohen helms the film, directing Tyler Perry as the titular detective, and a screenplay by Marc Moss. Check out the trailer via Amazon and one-sheet via IMP Awards below.

Crusading Detective/Psychologist Alex Cross (Tyler Perry) meets his match when he goes against psychotic, mob "hit man", Michael "The Butcher" Sullivan (Matthew Fox). As Cross investigates the hit man's gruesome murders, Sullivan decides to send him a deadly message by killing his wife in cold blood. Enraged, Cross vows to hunt down the killer, if it's the last thing he does. However, Sullivan is a mastermind and continues to evade Cross while pushing him to an ethical breaking point as a cop and father. As Cross closes in on the killer, he discovers evidence that points to the unimaginable- a revelation that can change everything. Also starring Rachel Nichols, Edward Burns, Jean Reno, and Cicely Tyson, Alex Cross hits theaters October 19, 2012!

@overtappeal We've covered Twilight and even animated movies with no comic connections whatsoever. If you're not interested or looking forward to the movie, keep it moving.

looks ok, but i see Perry and just automatically think comedy. Not to mention where the [frick] is Sampson. the end of the book that this is based on has a huge Sampson moment and he is an integral character in the series.

Looks interresting. I haven't read any of the Cross novels though. I've only seen Morgan Freeman play him in the other movies, so I don't know if this is how Cross should be adapted. Never knew he was this of a badass. Matthew Fox feels creepy and dangerous.

This looks decent, but I would've preferred Idris Elba as Cross (he was initially cast), or another actor for that matter...

This is a Lifetime Original Movie, right?

Fun fact: Both James Patterson and Rob Cohen are from my hometown. I am not proud of that.

I'm not really a fan of Tyler Perry, but it looks like he'll be good in this.

The movie itself looks like it could be a decent action movie.
