As the cast additions round out, the commencement of filming for Thor: The Dark World is set in stone for the first week of September. And speaking of stones, the construction of the anticipated sequel's set in Bourne Woods, Farnham, Surrey, England is taking shape.

Said to be establishing a village of yurts and stone towers in a “fictional realm,” where an epic a battle between two kingdoms will take place before Thor saves the day, check out three set photos below via “Elaswr,” “Pricey01,” and Wikipedia's “BabelStone.”

Exploring Thor's relationship with the Asgardian all-father Odin, as well earthbound companion Jane Foster, “Thor: The Dark World” follows the God of Thunder to The Nine Realms beyond Asgard and earth. And as his evil half-brother, Loki, returns for Asgardian justice, a new threat rises. Also rejoining Thor are his fellow Asgardians, Lady Sif, gatekeeper Heimdall and Warriors Three, as they encounter mythical Norse creatures among evildoers.

“Thor: The Dark World” stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Jaimie Alexander, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Stellan Skarsgard, Ray Stevenson, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Rene Russo, with Alice Krige & Kat Dennings. And Alan Taylor (“Game of Thrones”) takes over directorial duties from Kenneth Branagh, who helmed the first “Thor” film. From a screenplay by Don Payne and Robert Rodat, “Thor: The Dark World” is set for release on November 8, 2013.

Look, Simonson really DOES rule, and this movie rules because it will largely be based on his arc.

It's going to be a tough wait.

Hmmm....

I think this might be where Thor enters the Faerie realm, where Malekith baits the Odinson with Lorelei.
(It takes place in England)

Actually we have Faeries for real here in Little ole' England. Rurally of course, away from the big cities (they don't like all the artificial light).
They often help me put my washing out.

True story.

Hold on Marvel Studio is creating a fictional village. i wounder what Louis D'Esposito say about this.

if he is against creating fictional places like Black Panther fictional African nation Wakanda how is it alright for Thor LOL.
superotherside
superotherside - 8/25/2012, 1:58 PM
jazzman Yeah, I was thinking that too. I think they're just wanting to do it later and trying to fool us into believing they won't do it. I wouldn't be surprised if they moved back Avengers 2 to 2016 and put Ant-Man and Black Panther in 2015 or something like that.

@Jazzman;

D'Esposito's comment is ridiculous. Asgard would of been just as hard to produce in CGI as Wakanda would be.
The only difference being Wakanda being a little less reflective (as I imagine it, it would have a hybrid mixture of both stone and metal architecture) and have a lot of jungle rendered into it as well, but thats all been done before in CGI, theres no difficulty there.

He's just spouting excuses. I'm not listening to him, Feige is on it re: whats coming up next in the pipeline.

Can he wear the Helmet once? I mean, a warriors helmet looked amazing in 300. It can even be knocked off mid fight. It's just not THOR without it. Also good for Dark Elf hunting.

BTW: thats our weather at the moment in those pictures is real not CGI!.
One minute its bright sunshine, the next theres a downpour with rumbling thunder and lightning, then the clouds clear (repeat ad nauseum).

They might not have to fake the rain, thunder and lightning for the movie!, that could save them on CGI production costs!

@jwsmith,

Yup, Loki is coming back (as of end scene of Avengers) with Thor and the Tesseract, to Asgard to face Odin's punishment. Loki still manages to be the protagonist of further mischief between Asgard and it's enemies.

I wonder why they are Yurts;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yurt

and not traditional Viking-inspired long-houses.
Maybe its because the village are not Asgardians, but some Elf-race or other race of creature?.

Anyone know of any creatures in Marvel's lore that could be imagined as building Turkish/Mongolian-inspired 'Yurts'?.
Also, those pillars. The carvings on them are not particularly runic, hey look more Asian-inspired.
