Marvel Studios announced in mid-August that filming for the third Robert Downey Jr. starrer had been halted, due to the actor sustaining a minor ankle injury. And while claiming the delay would be a “short” one, the production has been quiet ever since. However, despite Thor: The Dark World commencing principal photography this week, a date and new shooting location for Iron Man 3 has now been announced for next month.
According to Film Commissioner Noelle Stevenson via Sun Sentinel, the cast and crew of the much-anticipated Shane Black-directed film will head to Dania Beach and other areas around South Florida on October 1. “It is a great boost to our local economy, not to mention jobs for our local film crews,” Stevenson said. “Fifty percent to be precise need to be local crew members in order to receive the state of Florida's Film tax credit.”
UPDATE: The folks from On Location Vacation have stumbled across a press release, revealing another specific filming location in South Florida. Excerpts below:
Greater Fort Lauderdale is on the alert for an extraordinary group of visitors from Marvel Studios, including an invincible super hero. Broward County will welcome cast and production crew beginning Oct. 1 for the third and final installment in the solo superhero saga “Iron Man 3.” The Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Office of Film & Entertainment announcement of the blockbuster production will include locations in Broward County’s Dania Beach, and other neighboring South Florida communities.
“We have had two very exciting back to back years of major film production in Greater Fort Lauderdale – we rocked with ‘Rock of Ages’ last summer. Now we have the marvelous Marvel comic book hero,” said Noelle Stevenson, Film Commissioner, Broward Office of Film & Entertainment. “Of significance is that the filmmakers can conveniently shoot a variety of landscapes here, from city skyline to 23 miles of pristine sun-splashed beaches to nature unleashed in the Everglades,” Stevenson noted.
Described as a “technological crisis thriller,” set in the world of international war, arms & terror, Marvel Studios' “Iron Man 3” stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Dale Dickey, Ashley Hamilton, James Badge Dale, with Sir Ben Kingsley and Jon Favreau. Shane Black (“Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”) takes over directorial duties from Jon Favreau, who helmed the first two “Iron Man” films. Principal photography will occur primarily in North Carolina and China. And “Iron Man 3” is set for release in May 3, 2013.
