Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Studios have just released the official outline of the plot for the Alan Taylor-directed 2013 movie, Thor: The Dark World. Confirming speculation that the film would explore all of Norse Mythology's Nine Realms, vaguely detailing the villainy of the anticipated Marvel sequel, and a great new purpose for the God of Thunder, check out the lengthy Synopsis below via Stitch Kingdom,!

Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano and Jaimie Alexander with Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins as Odin, “Thor: The Dark World” is directed by Alan Taylor, produced by Kevin Feige, from a story by Don Payne (credit not final) and screenplay by Christopher Yost and Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (credit not final) and is based on Marvel’s classic Super Hero Thor, who first appeared in the comic book “Journey into Mystery” #83 in August, 1962. “Thor: The Dark World” is presented by Marvel Studios. The executive producers are Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Stan Lee, Victoria Alonso, Craig Kyle and Nigel Gostelow. The film releases November 8, 2013, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

I can't believe that Thor's been in three movies over the span of two years, and they have not once weaseled in a "STOP! Hammer Time!" joke. I am disappointed, Hollywod!

Wait? The screenplay is written by Christopher Yost and Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely? That's awesome! Love Chris Yost's work on Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes and Hulk Vs and Markus' and McFeely's work on Captain America. This is going to kick so much ass!

I think they probably mean Surtyr. Surtyr is an elemental demon.

The universe was born in fire, so that might be what they mean by "predates the universe".

Otherwise that is a tad baffling. In the Marvle U, the only surviving being from the universe in existence before the big bang was Galactus. And we all know he couldn't possibly be in Thor, sadly.

Sounds epic as hell. Haters can just go (insert insult here) It already sounds better than the first one lol.
@MarkV, Wow for someone who absolutely hates GOTG, you manage to bring it up in like every [frick]ing thread. I really don't get the hate. Other films and franchise go all out fantasy all of the time. But if Marvel does it, its stupid.

@Fogs, While Thanos would be pretty cool, I hope they save him for The Avengers sequel. I'd prefer someone from Thor's universe (like Surtur, or Ymir). An Asgardian threat.

Umm... let's not forget Marvel was trying to make a deal with FOX in regards to expanding FOX's hold on the 'DD' film rights...

I believe Silver Surfer and Galactus were Marvel's requirements?

@ grif

seriously, kat dennings [frick]ing ruined every single frame she was in, and then it took me a few minutes to get over my irritation to get back into the film.

her lines were childishly ridiculous, her acting atrocious, and her presence completely unnecessary. her 'cute' factor is no reason or excuse for her to be lined up to ruin this sequel.

in other words she drove me [frick]ing crazy the first time around and for the life of me i cannot understand why she was asked to come back.

Awesome!:)

End fight between Thor and Kurse needs to be big! Malekith doesnt need to fight. I think it would be cool if Malekith manipulates Algrim and puts him against Thor after he is changed into Kurse and lost his memory.

Hemsworth is pretty young still so i think they should keep making Thor films and not end it on trilogy. Six films would be perfect.
