Amid confirmation that The Grey actor Frank Grillo will portray the villainous Crossbones, Variety has nonchalantly revealed yet another addition to the ever-growing cast of Marvel's forthcoming sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Although not much of a surprise, considering early plot details had announced that S.H.I.E.L.D., the Marvel cinematic universe's defense organization, will play a major part in the “political thriller,” actress Cobie Smulders is set to join The Winter Soldier movie as ‘Agent Maria Hill.’ Smulders is the fourth actor to reprise their role respectively from director Joss Whedon's critically acclaimed, box office behemoth, Marvel's The Avengers.
Beyond the inevitable plot elements, Scarlett Johansson's Russian spy Black Widow is expected to feature heavily in the film's story, and Marvel Studios are currently searching for another female lead. Therefore, Maria Hill's role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier will likely be a minor one.
Described as a political thriller, Marvel Studios’ “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” will pick-up where the highly anticipated film “Marvel’s The Avengers” leaves off, as Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury and the peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D, and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world. Starring Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Cobie Smulders with Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely and is based on Marvel's classic Super Hero Captain America, who first appeared on the pages of “Captain America Comics” (#1) in March, 1941. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is presented by Marvel Studios. Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is producing & Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso & Stan Lee are executive producers. The film releases August 1, 2014, & is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
