IRON MAN 3 Is A “Dark Comedy” Says James Badge Dale

Explaining what the production was like, working with director Shane Black and Iron Man 3 star Robert Downey Jr., “Eric Savin” actor James Badge Dale says the threequel is a “Dark Comedy” with farce.

Making the cover of this month's Glow Magazine issue, James Badge Dale discussed the number of big movies he has forthcoming, from The Lone Ranger to Iron Man 3. And when asked about playing one of the villains in the latter 2013 Marvel sequel, via Just Jared, the actor explained:

“I had a great time. I went from riding a horse in the desert for The Lone Ranger, tossed my dogs in a car and went to Iron Man 3 with guys in robot suits. IM3 is really a dark comedy with a little bit of farce. The trick is to be able to have the audience relate to you. Director Shane Black gave me a long leash. We had a great time. Robert Downey Jr. loves the process of acting and loves to be creative with a director and his fellow actors.” About his other future projects, “I’m close to a deal with a film in Austin, Texas. If it works out I’ll throw the dogs in the car and head down. Just hope there are no horses involved. I still have horse smell in my jeans from The Lone Ranger. I’m a city boy with a metro card. I prefer the subway.”

Marvel Studios’ “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man? Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, “Iron Man 3” is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce & Shane Black and is based on Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Iron Man, who first appeared on the pages of “Tales of Suspense” (#39) in 1963 and had his solo comic book debut with “The Invincible Iron Man” (#1) in May of 1968. “Iron Man 3” is presented by Marvel Studios in association with Paramount Pictures & DMG Entertainment. Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is producing & Jon Favreau, Louis D’Esposito, Stephen Broussard, Victoria Alonso, Alan Fine, Charles Newirth, Stan Lee & Dan Mintz are exec producers. The film hits May 3, 2013, & is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pict.

Shit, I could've told you that. It's [frick]ing Shane Black, have you ever seen Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. He made a dog swallowing a dude's finger sad, creepy, dark and hilarious all at once! Not to mention Val's "Faggot Gun" from the scene with the car battery.

ARRRGGGGG!!!! His comments = because this is based on a comic book, we didn't take it seriously and made a joke out of it. No matter what any of the producers, directors, etc. say about Iron Man 2, Sam Rockwell/Justin Hammer part sucked ass and ruined the movie. Out of anything else, his farcical, joke of part did not hold up at all.

The [frick] are guys surprised it's going to be a dark comedy? Usually, when a Director or actor is hired on, I research and watch their work. With Black, I knew what I was getting into.

Also, Are you guys daft? Did you guys watch the trailer? It isn't exactly like the previous Iron Man films...Tony's going through some tough stuff in this one. All the things that reached the Cold Light of Day in Avengers, scared him. And it all comes to a screeching pandemonium when Mandarin makes his debut into the playboy's life. This is Tony's culminating moment, his live free or die hard moment. This is not for the contemplation of children's minds...

Needless to say, we've come a long ways....

outside of the Wolverine, script wise, it should easily be superior then the other CBMs of 2013.

marvel can't make a decent third part, considering marvel studios has only reached one third part in all their franchises.

if you're on about spider-man,blade & x-men all made by different studios, nice try though.

Don't take the Marvel vs DC bait guys.

I have no doubts about this being great.

Btw where's the Wolverine trailer. That and Kick Ass are the 2 missing from the summer cbm. Supes and IM look ready to knock it out of the park

Hey @tolietbowl:

Thanos and Rocket Raccoon are BOTH getting the live action treatment before DC can even get their continuity straight for the 3 superheroes they've brought to the big screens...

Now listen to me. Are you listening? Okay, here's what I want you to do:

1. Disable your account
2. Go to youtube and watch "Skyfall Trailer"
3. Exit your internet application
4. Shut your computer down
5. Turn on your TV and put TDKR into your DVD player.
6. Watch it, and never come back.

You catch my drift?
Are you picking up what I'm putting down?
Get it?
Got it?
Good.

dc aren't experts at the third movie either.

first most of their movies don't even reach a third outing i.e jonah hex, catwoman, supergirl, swamp thing, steel & green lantern.

& the ones that do ain't that great either superman 3 & 4,batman forever, batman & robin oh & you can't forget the dark knight rises the worse of the nolan trilogy.

granted the dark knight rises is better than the above dc movies i mentioned & better than spider-man 3,blade 3 & x-men 3 but its still an average movie.

Dark comedy? then what [frick]ing trailer did i watch?

I doubt it, mother[frick]er is saying that because it's a cbm, probably thinks all cbms are comedy. Dark comedy is when a [frick]ing film makes fun of a depressing/dark subject like MASH (one of my favorite [frick]ing shows) making fun of war. It's that uncomfortable laughter you get when iran is nucked by accident. Time will tell.

Good deal. They're gonna need some comedy to counter-balance the more serious stuff we saw in the trailer.
