Samuel L. Jackson Speaks On A NICK FURY Movie; Confirms Bigger Role In CAPTAIN AMERICA 2

Offering a bit about his reprisal as Nick Fury in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Samuel L. Jackson also discusses the possibility for a solo movie surrounding the S.H.I.E.L.D. Director. Check it out!

During the press junket for Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, CS.net/SHH sat down with actor Samuel L. Jackson to discuss his role in the upcoming spaghetti western. And ultimately, Jackson wound up talking about his Nick Fury role from The Avengers, among other Marvel films, and whether a solo movie for the S.H.I.E.L.D. Director would be necessary. The veteran actor offered:

“Everybody likes a franchise character. Bruce (Willis) had his and Sylvester Stallone had Rocky, so I like coming back to Nick Fury. Nick Fury's a great guy. I think a lot of people know that. I know him as something else because I've been alive longer than most of the fans that watch the movies so I know Nick Fury as the World War II veteran and all that stuff. It might be interesting to do one day but we find out little bits and pieces about Nick and we're going into 'Captain America 2' in late March.”

Near the end of Samuel L. Jackson's interview with CS.net/SHH, the Academy Award-nominated actor apparently confirmed that Nick Fury “does indeed have a bigger role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” rather than a cameo, similar to Iron Man 2. What do you think?

Marvel Studios’ “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” will pick-up where the highly anticipated film “Marvel’s The Avengers” leaves off, as Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury and the peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D, and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world.

Starring Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Frank Grillo, Cobie Smulders with Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson, and directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures and is scheduled for release on April 4, 2014.

Honestly I would MUCH rather see another marvel character get another solo movie, just use Fury in the tv show and marvel should spend their money on someone like black panther or doc strange or daredevil! Or captain marvel! So many (better) possibilities out there IMO

not sure about this movie either. Chris Evans didn't impress me in CA:TFA, neither did the script. and the new directors don't do much for me either. and no Haley Atwell either right? thats a big loss IMO.

I would love it if Marvel made it so that Nick Fury was actually Isaiah Bradley (the first/black Captain America of WWII) and faked his death/changed his name to become Fury cos of the politics of the times; think it would add a lot of depth as well as grit to the entire MCU... 'The First Avenger' completely failed to capture any racial tension/prejudices that people had with one another at the time and as such failed in my eyes of making it seem credible...

I don't think a Nick Fury solo movie would work. It's kind of like having an Odin solo movie. They've both interesting characters, but they work better as a secondary character. As the wise mentor, or what have you. Plus you couldn't do a Fury solo movie without delving into his origins, which would mean no Sam Jackson, because he can't play his younger self anymore. So what's the point? Plus Fury's character plays better shrouded in mystery.

I'd love to see a fury movie as a WWII or even a Vietnam Conflict era movie. When the comic came out during the conflict it took place during WWII. Now the movie will be made around the time of the Afganistan War and take place during the sixties and the Vietnam thing...Make sense?...

Nice, but Fury don't need a spin-off film. It'd be nice though to see S.H.I.E.L.D have more of a presence in the Marvel Universe post Avengers. Now if only Spiderman could also join this universe...

mgeoff88 - 12/17/2012, 8:31 PM
That makes sense. I'm glad he'll have a bigger role.

Nick Fury will be working closely with Captain America to help him adapt more to the modern world. He'll probably send Cap on S.H.I.E.D. ops across the globe.

@MistressDeath I'm really anticipating seeing what Winter Soldier and Falcon will look like! I hope they look bad ass!

they shoulda gone ahead with a SHIELD big screen movie first before going into the whole tv series thang...

the movie's gonna have a LOT to offer...all the Nick Fury's stuff, not yet revealed, both Widow and Hawkeye's backstories. plus, we can also introduce some of the other characters, like Sam Wilson/Falcon. he could be introduced here instead of Cap 2, so in that movie, we could just skip the whole intro thing and go right into the action.

other characters that can be intro'd here: Sharon Carter, Carol Danvers (Ms. Marvel), Abigail Brand (SWORD top agent) and other shield characters.

other characters that can also appear in this: Jim Rhodes, Gen. Ross and his daughter..heck! you can put ANYbody in this movie. [sigh] IF only....
