With many comic book movies hitting theaters in the coming months, Hot Toys have kicked off New Year's Day 2013 with a new license acquisition announcement for Marvel's Shane Black-directed Iron Man 3 action thriller. Although not much of a surprise, the announcement via Facebook promises a variety of highly-detailed collectibles by the Hong Kong-based production house. Along with a coinciding promotional photo that seemingly teases the Mark 42 figurine, check it out below!

“Kicking start of the year, we are more than happy to announce to you one of your most expected Iron Man 3 license. A variety of Iron Man collectibles in different formats will be proudly presented soon. Stay tuned with us for more update in this wonderful season!”

UPDATE: In addition to Hot Toys, Kotobukiya will also release Iron Man 3 figurines:

“In 2013 Kotobukiya is excited to offer a line of collectable statues from Iron Man 3. Keep up with the latest announcements by following us on facebook or visiting kotous.com.”

Marvel Studios’ “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man? Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, “Iron Man 3” is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce & Shane Black and is based on Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Iron Man, who first appeared on the pages of “Tales of Suspense” (#39) in 1963 and had his solo comic book debut with “The Invincible Iron Man” (#1) in May of 1968. “Iron Man 3” is presented by Marvel Studios in association with Paramount Pictures & DMG Entertainment. Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is producing & Jon Favreau, Louis D’Esposito, Stephen Broussard, Victoria Alonso, Alan Fine, Charles Newirth, Stan Lee & Dan Mintz are executive producers. The film hits May 3, 2013, & is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Starting to get sick of seeing so many costume changes with Iron Man...

Soon every bloody scene in the movie will have a new costume version in it...

Not a fan of so much gold on this latest version and I would love to see a modern take on his most famous comic book version...

Nice, but I want one with War Machine, both in the Iron Patriot paint job and not. Well, just for my viewing pleasure, since I won't have the money for it anyway.

Not a number on how many characters they're doing? Hmmm, I will take an interest if they make a War Machine from this movie. The Black and Grey has me pretty excited. But IM2 War Machine was a good size; War Machine in this one looks like the same size as Iron Man.

But who cares! I can't wait for my three movie marathon before I go see this film on Anzac Day midnight see-esh-eion!
