THOR: THE DARK WORLD Set Report Emphasizes On The Warriors Three And Marauders
Recalling his experience filming intergalactic battle scenes for Thor: The Dark World as a member of the sequel's secondary villains, The Marauders, an Extra has posted a report offering mild spoilers.
Back in September, last year, filming for Thor: The Dark World took place in Bourne Wood, England, where set photos revealed a battle ensuing between Asgardians and “rag-tag invaders” known as The Marauders. Though scene details were scarce, an Extra portraying a member of the latter army was jotting down his experience during the shoot, dropping mild spoilers regarding motives of The Warriors Three and Maraunders in the sequel. Check out an excerpt and additional info below!
“Onto the first day which was basically lots of running around & pretending to slaughter lots of villagers which sounds fun until you set a loose horse into the equation. [On the fifth day] it was a fairly easy going day today with Ray Stevenson & Zachary Levi appearing on set with me, or is that vice versa?… So cut to the afternoon & I’m being held prisoner by Ray Stevenson ready to be transported back to Asgard. (Spolier:It’s not real). Next to me Zachary is on his horse which on this particular day is deciding to play up. Not good when my head is in direct path of its hoof. I’m officially scared. To be honest, I think he’s a bit worried too but still manages to pull off a perfect English accent whilst laughing at my predicament. I’m thinking if that horse hoofs me in the head then I’ll be going to my own version of Asgard & not coming back! Fortunately he managed to control his horse & quite admirably as well it must be said. As I’m being held hostage by Ray, it turns out he has nothing to eat & his character is always seen as eating… big problem as catering as gone home! Damon to the rescue as I produce my apple I had hidden in my ammo pouches & voila, if it makes the final cut I have my mark on a major film! fingers crossed. So if you see Ray chomping an apple whilst waiting to transport us intergalactic warriors to asgard then you know where it came from! PS I’m the one in the helmet that looks like a pigs face! – Very distinctive.”
Meanwhile, new and intriguing additions to the cast and crew of Thor: The Dark World have also been revealed. Young actor Henry Calcutt confirmed, via Twitter, that he’ll play one of Volstagg’s children in the sequel, which indicates that Marvel and director Alan Taylor will explore another dimension of the Voluminous charter member of The Warriors Three, played by Ray Stevenson. Deviating from the first Thor film, The Dark World’s incarnation of Volstagg will seemingly take after Walt Simonson’s The Mighty Thor (1982), where the ginger-bearded Asgardian had a household full of “plump, pampered children.” Regarding the other interesting addition to The Dark World crew, legendary film sculptor Brian Muir, best known for for modeling the original Star Wars trilogy Darth Vader helmets, has contributed to the Marvel sequel. The British artist told Total Film, “I was involved in the architectural detailing for the walls, doors and floors in the [Asgardian] throne room, among other sets. It was very enjoyable.” Seems we should expect to see newly detailed and massively built sets in Thor: The Dark World, especially with famous sculptor Bruce Gordon, best known for Troy’s Trojan Horse and Harry Potter’s Hogwarts School, also on board.
Marvel Studios’ “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all. Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano and Jaimie Alexander with Rene Russo & Anthony Hopkins as Odin, “Thor: The Dark World” is directed by Alan Taylor, produced by Kevin Feige, from a story by Don Payne (credit not final) and screenplay by Christopher Yost and Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (credit not final) and is based on Marvel’s classic Super Hero Thor, who first appeared in the comic book “Journey into Mystery” #83 in August, 1962. “Thor: The Dark World” is presented by Marvel Studios.
