Kevin Feige On ‘Hall Of Armor’ Evolution In IRON MAN 3

Mostly discussing the Mark 42 armor and how its capabilities will play out throughout the Iron Man 3, producer Kevin Feige has teased the evolution of Tony Stark’s Hall of Armor. Check it out!

Though it seems Marvel has found a neat way to showcase all of the threequel’s new suits of armor, as revealed via Facebook this week, the studio’s head honcho & Iron Man 3 producer Kevin Feige has implied that each of the 42 new suits will all get time to shine during the film. Teasing the evolution of Tony Stark’s Hall of Armor, from The Avengers to Iron Man 3, Feige reveals:

“Tony’s taken that idea of a suit that can deploy to him even further at the beginning of this film, and we have what we call the prehensile suit, which allows each individual piece of the suit to fly separately and latch on to him. It doesn’t quite work perfectly, but it is a great advancement that Tony uses throughout this movie, so that wherever he is, theoretically, he can call it to him and it can arrive. It doesn’t always work, and there’s a great scene in the movie, which we gave a little taste of to fans at Comic-Con this year in a giveaway of an art poster that Ryan Meinerding had done, where the entire suit doesn’t come to him. He just gets one glove and one boot and has to fight off a battalion of bad guys with just the boot and just the glove.”

“It’s often the limitations of the suit that can provide the most fun—when the suit breaks, when the suit doesn’t quite work—and there’s that in spades. We also, though, hint early on in the film by mentioning that this is not the Mark 8 as you might think because the Mark 7 was the last suit revealed in “The Avengers.” It’s the Mark 42. So there are well over 40 suits that Tony has built in between the time of “The Avengers” and “Iron Man 3” because of his obsession.”

“By the end of the film, we see each and every one of them, and you realize Tony is a mechanic and he has been tinkering. Any conceivable idea he had about the suit technology he built and stored in his Hall of Armor. Finally, after talking about it for four movies we finally see his Hall of Armor and the giant army of suits that he’s built for himself.”

Marvel Studios’ “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man? Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, “Iron Man 3” is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce & Shane Black and is based on Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Iron Man, who first appeared on the pages of “Tales of Suspense” (#39) in 1963 and had his solo comic book debut with “The Invincible Iron Man” (#1) in May of 1968. “Iron Man 3” is presented by Marvel Studios in association with Paramount Pictures & DMG Entertainment. Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is producing & Jon Favreau, Louis D’Esposito, Stephen Broussard, Victoria Alonso, Alan Fine, Charles Newirth, Stan Lee & Dan Mintz are executive producers. The film hits May 3, 2013, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Marvel Studios will also release “Thor: The Dark World ” on November 8, 2013; “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” on April 4, 2014; “Guardians of the Galaxy” on August 1, 2014; the sequel to “Marvel's The Avengers” on May 1, 2015; and “Ant-Man” on November 6, 2015!

I was wondering how he manages to build 40+ suits over the course of this movie. Sounds epic.

I hope we have a scene in the finale like in the Avengers where we see every suits function. That would be total kickass.

And the "prehensile" armor? Does it not have Extremis like we were told, it's just an extension of the Mark 7's ability to form around him?

It just occured to me, imagine if he's wearing an Iron Man suit INSIDE the Igor armor, or the Red Snapper armor ? Has that ever happened in the comics ?

The big suit fights until it is all worn out, and then he busts it open wearing his normal Iron Man suit. The enemy is all "Ahh for [frick]'s sake, really !!??"

Just a thought !

@Altair he switched suits in the final battle ? I think either you or me have to rewatch that again.

@OrgasmicPotatoe that inside suit thing remînds me of something my Dad told me in the 80s when I first started reading Iron Man. That would be so sick.

But yeah he switches to Heartbreaker in the final battle. Just look at the Lego set called "Mandarin Ultimate Showdown" or something, he's wearing the Heartbreaker. Maybe he wears the prehensile and then when he jumps from the crane he wears the Heartbreaker?

The "heartBreaker" armor would be a very close 2nd

He says he's made well over 40 suits since Avengers, but wouldn't the Mark 42 be the 35th?
Noble6
Noble6 - 3/28/2013, 3:51 PM
Feige cannot math... Mark 7 was in Avengers. Mark 42 is the latest. He has built 35 since Avengers, not well over 40.

LEVITIKUZ, why would you let that stop you, I wouldn't. What good is being grown up in working you can't buy what you want? I have toys all over my room and I'm proud of it. If Batman can have them why can't I?

thenerdicon4 - 3/28/2013, 6:55 PM
@Starktech, that wasnt the entire hall of armors, it was just the ones in his shop. They might get blown up for show so the Mandarin thinks he won and BAM he actually has the huge armory under his house.
