GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Working Title Revealed

As director James Gunn begins the Guardians of the Galaxy "pre-shoot" today in the U.K., the production company and movie title ruse have been revealed for the 2014 cosmic extravaganza.

By DCMarvelFreshman - Jun 19, 2013 09:06 AM EST

With Iron Man 3 now the fifth top-grossing film of all time, Thor: The Dark World readying a new marketing campaign and filming for Captain America: The Winter Soldier nearing completion, the only non-sequel in Marvel Studios' Phase Two is about to start rolling: Guardians of the Galaxy.

As the uniquely diverse ensemble cast of Guardians of the Galaxy filled out over the past few months, production has set up at Shepperton, Pinewood and Longcross Film Studios in England. Director James Gunn posted via Facebook yesterday that "pre-shooting" starts today, even though principal photography on the space epic adventure doesn't start until next week, reportedly. Anyhow, it seems the film is being developed in a typical Marvel fashion; following past title ruse efforts, Group Hug, Caged Heat, Thursday Mourning and Freezerburn, Marvel lists Full Tilt as the working title for Guardians of the Galaxy. According to several U.K. occupation profiles, the forthcoming adaptation is also using "Infinity Works Productions UK Limited" as its production company, similar to how Thor: The Dark World used "Asgard Productions UK II Limited" last year.

Meanwhile, James Gunn confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy will be post-converted to 3D, which isn't surprising. The director was also asked whether he's annoyed by his increased popularity thanks to the Marvel gig. "Not at all. I'm grateful for it! People don't understand I am a HUGE MARVEL GEEK," Gunn confessed. "I love Marvel comics and have read them since I was four years old. I have never stopped. I have read at least one comic almost every day of my life!"

He continued, "I feel a part of the Marvel universe and its characters. I feel lucky to be entrusted with helping to create a whole new section of the Marvel cinematic universe - not just one planet or society but MANY. There is no part of me that doesn't appreciate people's excitement for the possibilities Guardians represent - there is no one more excited than I am. I could go on and on and on... Shooting is just a few weeks out and I'm more pumped than ever." James Gunn also said that he was a Guardians fans "for many years" before he was approached to direct. What do you think?

Starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Ophelia Lovibond, John C. Reilly, Enzo Cilenti, Lee Pace, Karen Gillan and Glenn Close with Benicio Del Toro, Guardians of the Galaxy is written & directed by James Gunn, and is set to be released in theaters on August 1, 2014.

Cannot wait for this movie! Outside of The Avengers 2 this is the one I'm most looking forward to. Now sign Nick Offerman for the voice of Rocket Raccoon and let's go.

@Nomis that's true I'm still shouting from the mountaintops for Black Panther, but I think it's coming.

That's better than the usual answer of, "I've never read ________ before, but as I started to read it, I just fell in love with the characters." I don't know what's more surprising: that this movie is being made or the cast.

@nomis I can't either but Disney can sell more toys with this property and it opens up so many other possibilities with cartoons.

@Nomis I think that is best....at least that way you can keep introducing less established characters along side bigger releases, rather than all big releases first ...grow tired, then introduce lesser...

Smart move by Marvel IMO

"Still can't believe GOTG is popular enough to get a movie before much more established Marvel Characters."

I don't think that's what factored into it as much as box office/cinematic potential.

Why can't studios just FILM it in 3D instead of post-conversion??

@Nomis What's wrong with that? This movie is new & different from the other Marvel movies. Plus I don't want them to rush a Black Panther movie or a Hulk sequel(even though I want to hear official word on them soon).

@ Nomis

I am glad to see Marvel put some more obscure characters out there. I am sure they are going to tie this in with the Avengers some how!

@Nomis. It's an opportunity to introduce another side of Marvel. Kind of like the risk they took with starting with Iron Man as opposed to something else. If this does well, and I'm sure it will, we can see Adam Warlock (and/or Magus/Goddess) Nova Corp., Infinity War and Crusade, basically cosmic goodness. And if they get the rights to Silver Surfer and Galactus...damn. If you just introduce another "main player" you're not expanding the cinematic universe just adding more people in one very similar universe.

Black Panther will eventually be here. Patience.

I'm hyped.

@ Nomis. GOTG is not as popular among comic book fans as other Marvel properties, but the sci fi element of it can sell to a much broader audience. Marvel is all about money. If Iron Man III taught fans anything, its that Marvel will sell out to get that money.

After Annihilation and Annihilation:Conquest, DnA's run of GOTG is by far one the best cosmic stories I've ever read. It was just all sorts of awesome and anyone who hasn't read anything by DnA is really missing out.

@Danbojohnj I would read GOTG:Legacy, GOTG:War of Kings, but probably would start with Annihilation:Conquest since the team was established in that event.

I'm glad this movie is being made. The general audience will get to know the Thanos character. That's the whole reason it's being made. If Gunn could get a mostly impressive cast (Glenn Close, Benicio del Toro, John C. Reilly) like this in a comicbook film and rather odd one like that. I've got nothing but good feelings about this movie although I'm not really a fan of his films. Good to know he's a Marvel geek so it gives the film more credibility, especially if the film turns out good. His situation is similar to Joss Whedpn, being a comic fan and getting the gig.

@theShOCKER agreed. Everything cosmic in Annihilation, from the main story to the side stories, was fantastic. Super Skrull and Nova were awesome-sauce. GOTG is one of my favorite runs of any comic of all time.

You cant let the young guns get locked away

forgifs.com

For me introducing more obscure characters is a great thing

a) Sometimes you have to live with the fact a less popular comic character isn't going to make its way onscreen cus of the big guns and that sucks

b) The more characters out there the less repetitive the future reboots will get swarmed with the same few characters over and over :)
