Brian Tyler Speaks On Scoring THOR: THE DARK WORLD

Lengthily explaining his interest in Marvel's shared universe, possibly hinting that he's also scoring The Avengers 2, composer Brian Tyler has confirmed working on Thor: The Dark World. Check it out!

As proclaimed yesterday, Iron Man 3 composer Brian Tyler is returning to the Marvel universe for the studios' upcoming Thor: The Dark World. Promoting his latest work, Now You See Me, the award-winning conductor appeared on HuffPost Live today when he acknowledged scoring the Alan Taylor-directed Marvel sequel. Mostly discussing his fascination with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has prompted some to believe he's also scoring The Avengers sequel, check out what Tyler offers below. Be sure to fast forward the video to 17:00 mark, or check the transcription.

FAST FORWARD TO 17:00 MARK

"That's very recent," Tyler said about the Thor: The Dark World project. "It's a great film in the Marvel franchise, it's coming out in November. And the great thing about Thor and Iron Man and all this is that it relates to The Avengers. I think it's just fantastic how they've kept that universe a contained universe. Of course, these characters, they all have the rights to them. But I think it's really clever how they do it. And yet they all have a different feel. The feel of Thor [The Dark World] is a very different than Iron Man. Yet they live in the same universe. For me, it's like somehow Indiana Jones showed up on the Enterprise; or something. It's just awesome! But it's great because, for me, I get to do something completely different and I'm really excited about that project."

Marvel Studios’ “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all. Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano and Jaimie Alexander with Rene Russo & Anthony Hopkins as Odin, “Thor: The Dark World” is directed by Alan Taylor, produced by Kevin Feige, from a story by Don Payne and screenplay by Christopher Yost and Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely and is based on Marvel’s classic Super Hero Thor, who first appeared in the comic book “Journey into Mystery” #83 in August, 1962. “Thor: The Dark World” is presented by Marvel Studios. The executive producers are Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Stan Lee, Victoria Alonso, Craig Kyle and Nigel Gostelow. The film releases November 8, 2013, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios.

Silvestri is doing the score to the Avengers 2. Tyler does not say anywhere in the interview about doing Avengers 2. Just Thor: Dark World.

Brian Tyler is one of the best music score composers around, one of my favorites up there with Ramin Djawadi, Hans Zimmer, Alan Silvestri, Steve Jablonsky, Tyler Bates, Danny Elfman, Klaus Badelt to name a few.

And I sure wouldn't mind if he replaced Silvestri for THE AVENGERS 2.

Jesus Christ, I love Brian Tyler but I'm kinda getting exhausted over him. A lot of his stuff sounds the same after awhile.

I'm shocked at the number of people who liked the Avengers score.

I thought it worked okay with the film but its completely forgettable now.

Imagine John Williams doing it!?

MAH GOD.

Yes Marvel is awesome! I am looking forward to hearing this score to Thor: TDR. I think the Iron Man 3 score is great and Thor is probably even more in his sweet spot. His Children of Dune score is one of the all time great sci fi scores in my opinion. Feels like Thor.

I also just listened to this interview and Tyler does not hint that he is doing Avengers 2. But it is way cool he is doing Thor: A Dark World.

IM3's score was forgettable. Shame in that they couldn't get Doyle back. Heck, even Djawada would have been a way better choice.

Sometimes I want to hum John Williams' classic Superman Theme, but I have a hard time to remember it. Then I go to YouTube and slap my forehead for being so stupid to forget it.

So, I start to hum it... before I notice, I'm humming Jurassic Park instead. I try to go back to Superman, but I forgot it again.

So, I guess you could say that John Williams' Superman score is forgetable to me, since, you know, I tend to forget it...

Nah, I'm cool.

But, I'm serious about the Superman thing. Even when I managed to hum it okay, my brain keeps trying to pull it to Jurassic Park.

It's quite maddening.

Marvel Studios, I love you, but for the LOVE OF GAWD!!! FOCUS creating "THEMES" for each character. Each character and movie should have a "signature" theme so that they will always be recognizable. Stop creating generic music for your movies. Stop it with the inconsistencies. Please. You need composers that are obviously not, but think like JOHN WILLIAMS. John Williams COMPOSES themes for movies and characters that are and probably will always be HIGHLY memorable to just about anyone on this planet.
