More From Vin Diesel On GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY: 'So Much One Can Do with `I am Groot.''
As Michael Rooker speaks on filming Guardians of the Galaxy versus The Walking Dead and getting snapped on set, unseen photos from the shoot surface and more from Vin Diesel about voicing Groot!
As of lately during his promo run for Riddick, Vin Diesel has been more candid about playing Groot in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. Even though his performance may be limited to some motion capture and the treelike character's repetitive delivery of "I Am Groot," the Fast and the Furious star seems enthusiastic to lend his gravelly voice should his reps "allow" it to happen. "The idea of bringing that physicality to a CGI character always tantalized me," he told the Huffington Post today. "To strip away everything is insane. In this case, the voice plays heavily into it, too. I don't know what kind of dialogue will be in it, but even if it stayed true to character, there's so much one can do with `I am Groot.' It's the kind of challenge very few actors ever get."
Also, Michael Rooker was spotted looking mighty blue as Yondu on Guardians of the Galaxy's U.K. set just last week. And as additional photos from that shoot have been revealed, the Slither actor talked about being photographed on set and more about his space pirate role in the James Gunn-directed film at the Fan Expo Canada last weekend. “I'm an intergalactic guy and my skin is the color of my lovely eyes,” Rooker told attendees. “It's a great thing working on a film. On a T.V. set, you're working everyday and it's like long. T.V. people -- how do you do it? It's just brutal. [On 'Guardians of the Galaxy'] I come in, I hang out, I have coffee. I chill out and [say,] 'Hm, I think I'm going to work today,'” he joked, as the audience laughed. “We had our first experience with the paparazzi. They were like 400 yards away and they're like these little tiny creatures. And I was like ehh” Rooker said with a dismissive gesture. “Of course, the next day you look and they got me [in full costume]. I mean their lens must be 4 feet long.”
Lastly, James Gunn responded to a question of mine on his Formspring last week, supporting producer Kevin Feige's comments that we'll get "more than one turn-around and smirk" from Thanos in addition to finally hearing the mad Titan speak in Guardians of the Galaxy! What do you think?
“Guardians of the Galaxy,” the next epic adventure from Marvel Studios, is directed by James Gunn from his screenplay, with a story by Nicole Perlman and Gunn, and the film will introduce audiences to a whole new side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The all-star cast includes Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, two-time Academy Award nominee Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Academy Award® winner Benicio del Toro as The Collector, Academy Award nominee John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey, and six-time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close as Nova Prime. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is slated for August 1, 2014!
