Though she appeared briefly in Captain America: The First Avenger begging for Cap's autograph, British actress Laura Haddock is set to play Meredith Quill, mother of Chris Pratt's Peter Quill, in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy next year. Speaking with Diabolique Magazine during New York Comic-Con, Haddock gleamed when she was asked about her role in the James Gunn-directed movie. “Yes, I got an opportunity to go in and do a part in that movie,” she gushed. “It was amazing working with James Gunn and Chris Pratt. It was one of the most brilliant jobs because it's huge! My part is very personal, very important to the story, but quite a small part. But [still] very important certainly to [Star-Lord's] journey. I don't know much I can say it's very different to anything I've ever done. It's a complete opposite of anything I've ever done.”

According to producer Kevin Feige, Peter Quill will leave earth in the mid 1980s before “we meet back up with him” in space where he's very much a citizen of the universe. And with only 5% of Guardians of the Galaxy taking place on earth, it's almost safe to say we'll see Laura Haddock's Meredith Quill in a period-setting flashback or prologue (maybe playing the same Captain America groupie? Probably not). But anyhow, it's worth noting that we'll also see Meredith's own mother, sister and best friend in Guardians as three unknown UK actresses - Janis Ahern, Marianna Dean, and Lindsay Morton - have all filled those minor roles via Casting Call Pro. What do you think?

“Guardians of the Galaxy,” the next epic adventure from Marvel Studios, is directed by James Gunn from his screenplay, with a story by Nicole Perlman and Gunn, and the film will introduce audiences to a whole new side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The all-star cast includes Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, two-time Academy Award nominee Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Academy Award® winner Benicio del Toro as The Collector, Academy Award nominee John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey, and six-time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close as Nova Prime, with Vin Diesal as Groot and Academy Award nominee Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is scheduled for release August 1, 2014!

@ezio: Star Lord going back in time to witness his mother's death or something along those lines would make for a very dramatic and emotional moment. That would be amazing! That guess alone has me even more excited lol

Yup, it's all good as long as you don't watch the show expecting something historically accurate and educating. ^^ It will be fun to see more of all the conspiracy/secret organization stuff that's going on. :)

i hope this movie is good, i reallllly want it to be good, it could go either way,i know james gunn has avery specific style to his films that doesnt appeal to everyone, hopefully he has learned to broaden his sensibilities,i think that might have been the case with iron man 3 in that for some people, shanes black, subversive action comedy 80s movie style doesnt work for some people which is fine,i know james gunn has said that he feels amarvel film should be enjoyed by everyone who goes to see it so he is gonna try to broaden his style, the tone he wants is to go out there and unique as possible but make the characters great and relatable and something that we can relate to on an emotional level and he knows its a delicate balance so hopefully it can pull it off

Heh, she's cute.

Seems like Marvel likes putting her in bit parts, but at least she's going up in the parts first in CATFA she was just a random girl that says hi to Cap. Now she's a superhero's mother.

Omega-my theory is that starlord might have the time gem which is the orb and that maybe he sees his mothers murder again, it could be a very emotional and dramatic moment
