Smallville's landmark tenth season looks set

WB buying more studio space for veteran series.

YVR Film, the Vancouver-based production database, has revealed that Warner Bros. has purchased the buildings surrounding Smallville Studios (where the show is primarily shot), and is making the studio bigger.

This is further 'proof' that Smallville will be sticking around for a little while longer, as it is a long-term investment buying more buildings, given that Smallville Studios is already one of the largest exclusive-use studio spaces in Vancouver (housing the 50+ sets used by the Smallville team). The expansion also indicates a budget increase for the series, as shows traditionally recycle or re-decorate older sets to make way for new ones, instead of buying entire new buildings.

Given the series is almost entirely set in Metropolis, it makes sense the new sets will be urban. In recent episodes, Smallville has resorted to using green screen (and even the Watchmen set) to make Metropolis look bigger, so naturally it may be more cost-effective to just create a new city set. Personally, I hope they build a 'City Square' set, like Metropolis' version of Rockefeller Centre. It would further showcase the scale of Metropolis, plus make for an incredible battlefield location.

Please feel free to speculate away below in the comments what you think the new sets will be - I will post the best ideas in a future 'round-up' post.

And a special thank you goes to Lilah for bringing this tweet to the community's attention.

Great, bring on season 10.

The thing that always bums me out about Smallville is, unlike most shows where the end is pretty much the end, the end of Smallville is the beginning of Superman. And we won't get to see any of those cool stories. As great and epic as these 9, maybe 10, years have been, they are incredibly insignificant compared to Clark/Superman's potential future adventures.

While close to the comics, Smallville greatly differs.Imagine all the stories they can tell differently that either has or hasn't happened in the mythos. Not only that, they keep giving me cool things like the Legion, Justice League and Justice Society. There is so much things involving the past, present and future to be explored. We'll be lucky if they spinoff any one of these characters, but they still wouldn't be able to touch upon all the concepts they've introduced.

I really wish the CW would produce some good DVD films like SyFy did with Stargate.Or some telefilms.I think Babylon 5 had about 6.

"Though the pre-suit years are traditionally insignificant to Superman, Smallville has made them relevant."

I think his pre-Superman years are very significant. His adventures and accomplishments after the series ends will be so great that they will make his years in Smallville seem insignificant.

"I really doubt WBTV would allow the Smallville-verse to die"

Here's hoping. It would really suck if they abandoned the Smallville Universe like Cartoon Network/WB/DC abandoned the DCAU.Granted, that franchise had a stellar 14 year run, but there were stories that still needed to be told.

I wanna see a Justice League spinoff!
But done more true to the comics story!
And bring Flash in instead of Impulse!

Smallville is awesome and I've beared with it through it's many crappy seasons, and although this season has been awesome, I just worry that they won't be able to provide a decent story unless they transform him.. it's like the theory, If you you blow-up the world in a movie, then how are you really gonna create a sequel that can beat that?.. Unless your willing to blow-up the universe in the next... They better be prepared to pull out all the stops if they gonna make another season. a straight up battle royale!

Yeah exactly (superdog).... I actually like the way the show is done since Millar and Gough left. It's seems to be alot more grittier, and the different use of lenses really gives it a more grounded feel

Bring on Bruce Wayne!!!!!!!!!!!! No Batman yet either, just as some kind of Business Merger with Oliver Queens company to see who has the highest bid for Lexcorp. between Tess,Oliver and Bruce. Maybe he can be inspired by the blur to become the legendary Batman and at the end of the episode there can be a announcement on Metropolis tv that in Gotham there has been reports of a bat like vigilante roaming the streets. Maybe they can have a contest on who will portray the legendary Bruce Wayne on Smallville and Fans can vote on it?? It'll have to be a 2 part episode though. Yeeeaaahhh!!!!!!!!

I like it...
I bet at some point the mature the show into Metropolis....

Its written on the wall...
and Im sure they will progress Clarks suit into something simular to supermans suit, but not the exact suit since there is a stink about having the show and film going.

interesting news. If they do increase the budget, I'm praying it'll lead to the effects that will finally showcase Clark in flight sequences.

Word. I dig it. But I'm curious who they'll get to be the villian in Season 10? We've already had a good portion of Supes rogue's gallery: Lex Luthor, Brainiac, Bizarro, Phantom Zone baddies, Mr. Mxyzptlk, Metallo, Maxima, Zor-L, Doomsday, and now Zod. I wonder who else we'll see...Lobo? Mongul? Hank Henshaw/Cyborg Supes? Gog? Darkseid? Whatever they decide to do, I say bring on Season 10 of Smallville! =D

PS: More little to no clothing from Erica Durance and/or Allison Mack would be a great bonus! ;D

Love how they always show the same shot of Lexcorp or the Daily Planet. SAME SHOT.
And the Lexcorp shot has been around since the early seasons.
