STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE: Ben Mendelsohn Is Still "Waiting For Them To Call"
It's been widely reported that Bloodline star Ben Mendelsohn, will play the main villain in Star Wars: Rogue One. Recently though, the talented actor revealed that he hadn't had any official confirmation about the project - but that he'd be very happy to do it! Read on for more...
From what we've heard so far, Disney and Lucasfilm have assembled quite the ensemble cast for their first Star Wars spin-off: Rogue One. Felicity Jones has been confirmed to headline the project, while Bloodline star Ben Mendelsohn is heavily rumored to be playing the main antagonist. Speaking to Deadline, Mendelsohn revealed that he had indeed been talking to folks over at Lucasfilm, but that nothing had been confirmed so far:
"Well… I know that it’s something that’s being talked about. That’s what I definitely know. I’m waiting for them to call me and say, “Hey, here’s the start date,” but you know, none of that’s yet taken place, but you know I’d be very happy to do it, let’s put it that way."
It would be disappointing to find out that the talented Australian actor isn't involved after all - but his enthusiasm for the project is encouraging. Assuming Disney/Lucasfilm feel the same way, it seems likely that he'll have a key role to play in Gareth Edwards's film. With the likes of Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed and Forest Whitaker all widely reported to be on board the spin-off as well, we can hopefully expect some official confirmation of the main cast soon. Perhaps at San Diego Comic-Con?
Star Wars: Rogue One is set to hit theatres 16 December, 2016. Would you like to see Mendelsohn as the movie's main villain? And who else would you like to see join Edwards' ensemble? Be sure to leave your thoughts and ideas in the comments below!
