Shocker! Mads Mikkelsen Is "Not A Bad Guy" In ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY

Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen has forged quite a reputation for playing sinister and nefarious characters in the past. Many had assumed he would play a similar role in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Apparently, that's not the case after all...

Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen is most famous for playing villainous roles in high profile movies and TV shows. With sinister turns in the likes of Hannibal and Casino Royale, the talented actor has impressed audiences time and time again, and built up quite a fan following for his work. Imagine our surprise then, when the actor himself revealed that he is not playing an antagonist in Gareth Edwards' highly anticipated spin-off, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Speaking to Danish paper Ekstra Bladet (via StarWars7News.com & the magic of Google Translate), Mikkelsen remained as tight-lipped as possible about his role. However, he did betray one major detail. "It is very important role, a much I can say," he claimed, before adding, "
No, my character is actually not a bad guy, and then I can not say more. I can also say that the movie will be shot in Iceland and England. And the filming will last for three months."

What do you think of these developments. Do you think Disney have missed a trick, or are you happy Mikkelsen is avoiding type-casting? Bloodline star Ben Mendelsohn is widely rumored to actually be the movie's main villain. The prospect of the two formidable actors going head-to-head sounds pretty exciting to me! But what do you think? Sound off below!

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will hit theatres December 16, 2016.

Mikkelson playing a hero?!

Get outta here.

I remember being so bummed when he dropped out of playing Malekith in Thor: The Dark World to play Hannibal.

Now I consider it the smartest career move possible.

Yeah holy shit, Mikkelsen dodged a major bullet with Malekith haha.

I mean, not that it's hurt Chris Eccleston's career or anything like that. But for his ego's sake, it's probably better that Mikkelsen wasn't involved haha.

Lol, "Thor: The Dark World"

Umm @SauronsBANE... Don't you have some Community to be watching? Get back to it so we can geek out together.

Gus, until November when Spectre comes out and Christoph Waltz brings the house down.

Poor Mads...sucked into the black hole that is Star Wars.

@Minty Lol! VERY good point, actually...

I watched the first 3 episodes late last night, I'm planning on binge-watching another 5 or 6 tonight. I love it so far! Also, it's INCREDIBLY weird to keep seeing Joe and Anthony Russo's names pop up in the credits haha.

"You either die a villain, or you live long enough to see yourself become a hero."

@SauronsBANE - Yeah, they had some great talent involved. Harmon, The Russos, Justin Lin. It's the only reason why I was okay with the Russos doing TWS while a lot of others lost their heads. Although I never saw them handling it that well

So... what are you waiting for with that binge-watching?

I actually didn't like him as the villain in Casino Royale.

@Minty Yep, I don't think anyone predicted how great the Russos would make TWS, given that making the jump from TV comedy to an action blockbuster isn't the easiest thing in the world.

And LOL, that professor had me busting a gut! Best moment - at the end of the episode after he sees Britta kiss Jeff to help him "seize the day", he randomly runs and climbs up a tree.

I thought Javier Bardem was a better villain, but Mads was also awesome.

I'd love for one of these spin off movies to be from the Empire's point of view. Or at least a team working for the Empire.

Yeah, he's not a bad guy, like Marion Cotillard in TDKR.

The non-English-speaking part of his career is full of roles that wouldn't be considered villainous. A couple of those films are on Netflix, for anyone who wants to see some of his range. He's a talented actor and continuing to typecast him in popular movies/shows would be a waste.

He'd play a cool Sinestro, that's for sure.

Good for him actually, because always playing the bad guy (even if he does the job well done) may be annoying for him.

Gus, the spread's only 2.5 runs. It's basically free money.
