Disney's fantastical adventure "Oz The Great and Powerful," directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he's hit the jackpot--fame and fortune are his for the taking--that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone's been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity--and even a bit of wizardry--Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

Not bad. Definitely CGI-ish, but the story looks pretty cool.

Looks good. It does seem to rely too much on CGI at times, but otherwise I'm liking what I'm seeing.

Those darn good witches in Oz are always waiting around for someone to come along to do what needs to be done. Why don't you use your special powers to actually help people instead of guiding them on some journey of personal growth?

I'm a little confused on the plot. I was under the impression that Mila Kunis' character would be turning into the green witch? It seems as if there is a fourth, unless one of them is pretending to be good and look like a normal hot chick. Anybody know what the deal is?

Yeah I think it's trying to do a Jekyll and Hyde type thing with one of the witches.

SPOILER

Mila Kunis.

Would you rather have a CGI OZ or a painted backdrop like the original. Not much to explore when its only painted.

Looks great. Much better than I expected. Is this an original sceenplay or an adaption of one of Lyman Frank Baum's novels?

Personally for a film like this I don't mind all the CGI, I don't no how much of such a big fantasy world could have been made without it but more so the bold colours used as well.

Oh and that flying Baboon at the end is gonna have kids crapping there pants if they see that in 3D.

Looking forward to this one! I read all of Baum's books as a kid. CGI is needed to pull off the fantasy world that Oz is, so I have no challenge with the CGI.

Murdock I think everybody's concern is that with too much CGI it will turn into something like Alice in Wonderland and rely heavily on looking spectacular rather than being a good film

Looks pretty good. I'm still back and forth on it, also as a fan of Scrubs I can tell already that Zach Braff's voice is going to make me think of J.D the whole time, but other than that, yeah, I definitely want to see this. I just hope it doesn't get lost in itself.

Also? Best part of the trailer was the expanding frame as the balloon sailed towards the giant "DIRECTOR OF THE SPIDER-MAN TRILOGY". Seemed cocky to me, like they knew how much the general public still loves those movies. I dig that.

Really hope this is good. It certainly looks nice. Obviously Much more inspired by the look of the 1939 film rather than the books. With a good story and characters this could make for a really nice prequel.
