My friends, I have come to you with distressing news. Our fellow user The Myth is dying of cancer. He is at a point now where he cannot even recognize his young daughter Emma.

The Myth, whose real name is Steven Devers, was a good man, he is a good friend. I first came in contact with him when I first joined Comicbookmovie.com and began to post stories; he was there to offer encouragement. The man was an amazingly talented writer, who had a passion and a flair for fiction. He was always encouraging to CBM’s new users, but he was never afraid to put one of us old timers in our place if we got out of line on an issue.

Throughout all of our conversations and work together, one thing remained the same, his sense of humor. He had a joy for life, and seemed to try to find the best in things. He would not want his friends and loved ones to grieve for him, when he goes on to his reward. To show this he even asked his wife, Amanda, to pass out balloons at the funeral, he was always trying to lighten the mood.

Myth was well known on this site for one very important thing, he was an expert on all things Marvel. However, his real passion lay with the team of mutants known as the X-Men. I remember he once said they were important to him because, “I thought the way a lot of heroes obtained their powers was, well, silly sometimes, even at age 6 I remember feeling that way. And then dad showed me who the X-Men were. And I loved them. They didn't get there powers by radioactive spiders or cosmic radiation, they were mutants born with their powers. It was genetic. So, I held out in hopes that along with my first pubic hair, I'd be able to shoot lasers from my eyes. This is when comics became more than a hobby to me.”

He knew more about X-Men than most of the current writers of Marvel probably do. He used his knowledge of his beloved X-Men to write a trilogy of X-Men stories that are among the finest pieces of fan fiction on this site!
His favorite character was always the X-Man Gambit, he knew everything about that character.

It was because of him that I myself began to post stories on this site.

He was a constant source of guidance and inspiration for me over the months I have known him. I would turn to him when I was in need of guidance and assistance for my stories. Whenever I posted a story, I would wait anxiously for his thorough and detailed review. He could notice the smallest subplots and nuances in a story; it was one of the things I looked forward to when I posted articles.

I had the honor of working with him in collaboration in recent months. He, Shaman, Joslezio, and I were working on a CBM exclusive series that Myth was extremely excited about. His last work was in this series. We plan to complete the series and dedicate it to our friend.

From his close friend Joslezio:
“The Myth had a thirst for knowledge that surpassed that of anyone I have ever met. His thrive to understand and master every passion he ever had, whether it was martial arts or comic books, was unmatchable and awe worthy by anyone. The fact, that he is leaving this world, is a huge loss to anyone that knew him, but should not be mourned. We should instead celebrate his life. He would want to leave knowing that his friends were drinking a beer, or smoking a bowl, in his honor, as opposed to crying for him. He will always be a great man, and remembered for his many amazing and unique traits and he will be missed.”

From all of us here at CBM, we love you Steve Devers, and we will miss you. We hope that by some miracle you are able rejoin us soon.

And for those of you, who wish to see some of his many contributions to this site, take a look at his fan site:

My thoughts and prayers are with The Myth and his wife and daughter...it's funny at just how used to seeing everyon on here I have become, and how glad I am for the opportunity to share with others, one of my favorite interests. Knowing that someone on here with whom I'm one of many to have conversed with, is very sadenning...God Bless

Very class HAWK, i honestly could not have written anything even close to that. I am still baffled and shook by this event. It's leaving me without resource... powerless. To me, every life should be celebrated but this passing will be most difficult for it leaves an unsurmountable void. Myth was more than a friend even though i've never seen his face before. He felt like a brother. He was as much of a mentor to me as he was my very biggest fan. The compliments he gave me were as monumental as his advice. If there ever was an important person that i have met in my life, even though not in person, it was him. His existance was a gift to everyone who knew him. And now i feel like it's been snatched away. They say you never truly appreciate anything until it's been taken from you. Well goddamn it, i want it back!

Thanks HAWK, you did great! Myth was always represented by his favorite hero, Gambit. He never was big on fan casting because most people disscouraged him from it early on. But that did not stop him from casting his very favorite hero and so i will honor him for every single thing he ever gave to me. I will sketch his choice of actor as Gambit, which was Vicent Cassel. I will post it as a tribute to the man himself, TheMYTH.

The "Shaman" weeps. My condolences to EVERYONE.

Damn...thats some bad news.

Myth's X-men stories were on of the first i actually took the time to read. They were extremely well written and creative. You could feel the passion in every word he wrote(typed). After reading his X-men stories and Marvel Knights story i really started to read others.

The Myth and Hawk were two of the people that really got me to start writing my own fan fics. And even though they are no where as good as there's. I hope he at least read one.

I was looking at someones old post the other day and i saw a comment from him on it and i wondered why i havent seen him on here in a while. I guess now i know why.

Great homage to a great writer @Hawk

This is terrible news. I was only thinking about where TheMyth could had gotten to the other day during the CBM awards article when a few of CBM's past members started to resurface - I only wish that the reason had been anything other than this.

My condolences to Steven and his family. He was an amazing contributor to this site and a genuinely great guy to talk to.

MULTI: Thanks for the info about teabag.

I am so sorry to hear this...I didn't have a lot of communication with TheMyth...only a bit under articles...but I always saw him around. And I liked how his comments always seemed a bit more thought out than some other users...I'm sure he's a good guy.

Condolences from me as well, and I will be praying for peace for the family.
