As you know, Mickey Rourke is to be the new villain in Ironman 2, either Whiplash, or Crimson Dynamo.
When it was announced, reports also mentioned that Rourke was also rumored to be up for a villainous role in Spider-Man 4 -- possibly that of Kraven the Hunter. We knew about it, but apparently someone forgot to tell Sam Raimi.
MTV News interviewed Spider-Man 4 director Sam Raimi at the South By Southwest festival this weekend to ask him about the Rourke rumor. Raimi was surprised by the news that the Oscar-nominated actor was mentioned in connection with the web-slinger’s next turn on the big screen.
Raimi asked MTV News. “Really? Where did you hear that?”
“I didn’t know about that,” continued Raimi. “Other people [involved in the film] could have been considering Mickey Rourke for a villain, talking about the Spider-Man films, and maybe they didn’t tell me. That could be true. Maybe they asked an agent for availability and hadn’t yet come to me and said, ‘Sam, this guy’s available, would you like to work with him?’ I love Mickey Rourke, by the way, but they hadn’t yet come to me about that.”
Given Raimi’s surprise and Rourke’s new role Jon Favreau’s Ironman sequel it doesn’t look likely that Rourke will be Kraven in the next Spidey flick.
