Nic Cage Wants Supervillain Role in Batman 3

But is this just wishful thinking?
MTV recently reported that Nic Cage is interested in a role in Batman 3 read on...

“I would love to play a supervillain. I think that would be a whole lot of fun,” Cage told MTV News, welcoming an invite to take on the Batman. “Yeah. If they call and invite me, I’d do it. Certainly.”

MTV News asked Cage if there’s a specific villain he’d like to play.

There are plenty of antagonists to choose from, many of whom might benefit from Cage’s experience playing criminals and rouges(Con Air). For all of you who have not been keeping count Ra’s Al Ghul, Scarecrow, Mr. Zszasz, Two-Face and The Joker have all been portrayed on film. Cage acknowledged Nolan’s previous Bat foes and liked the thought of joining their ranks.

“There have been so many good ones already,” said Cage, “It’s a good idea.”

Well what do you think of Mr. Cages chances of being a bat villain. Which ones do you think he should be?

I could see him as the Mad Hatter, as this picture shows it would give him a reason to keep the hat on lol.

Or maybe Vetriloquist....

I could honestly see him as Clayface, especially if they play the aging, washed up actor angle.

Zsasz is a serial killer who had a breif appearence as one of the inmates at Arkham in Batman Begins. he was played by the lead singer from the British band James. He is one of my favorite Bat villains, so I hope to see a little bit more of him.

HAWK out.
THEHAWK - 3/28/2009, 11:11 PM
Damn Hawk, you did get me with that title. Hmmmm, he could play Batzarro.
No really, how about Hugo Strange. Nolan seems to go for the characters that are less power-centric. He's the guy that wants batman's identity for his own and makes zombies to do his bidding, I believe. Still, i dont think of that character as a main villain. the public wouldnt recognize Hugo.
Betty - 3/28/2009, 11:42 PM
Good Good my evil plan is working, what?

I always liked Strange, I found him to be an interesting character. but he probably can't carry a moie on his own. In my perfect scheme, I had Black Mask as the main villain, with Strange being brought in on the mayors order to find out who the Bat is. In my way I had him as a Psychiatric profiler, who may have a few screws loose, like Hannibal Lector. Now there is a villain.
THEHAWK - 3/28/2009, 11:53 PM
MOTHER OF MERCY! NOO!!

Oh wait, you were joking...phew...
TheSoulEater - 3/29/2009, 1:03 AM
"LOOK INTO MY EYES".....ooops wrong film.

And you did get me with title, you waskely wabbit.
theFACE - 3/29/2009, 2:39 AM
Mr. THEHAWK

I like that idea. Wasnt calender man kinda like that also? Psychological killer.
Betty - 3/29/2009, 7:17 AM
Yeah, but no one would know who he is.
THEHAWK - 3/29/2009, 7:45 AM
im kinda worried, there are not many left that the public would recognize. Everyone seems to expect the riddler next but i could do without 'im.
Betty - 3/29/2009, 8:01 AM
Yeah he really is not much of a threat. Honestly Bane and Black Mask are the only to viable threats that Nolan could do...But the studio will pressure him to the Riddler.
THEHAWK - 3/29/2009, 8:09 AM
I would like to see Bane and Talia al Ghul. I would alsso like to see a young Dick Grayson but not as Robin. I think with the death of Rachel it's a perfect time to introduce the character. The father/son relationship between Bruce and Dick will be needed to help keep this fugitive Batman on the right path.
90caliber - 3/29/2009, 9:45 AM
@ 90caliber

Finally! Someone else on the internet that gets the real relationship that Bruce/Dick have. And didn't say that they were gay. There is hope in humanity again....
TucsonRican - 3/29/2009, 10:03 AM
how about we just dont put Cage in a batman movie cuz hes by far one of the [frick]ing worst and one-sided actors on the face of Earth!
joob234 - 3/29/2009, 3:59 PM
aw man! I still like Mr. Cage. He just, his... He seems to accept any role. And similar roles at that. Like jodi foster and all her, "oh my god my child's in trouble" movies. Either they are stuck in a rut or trying to milk the public's interest while they have it. No offense to Foster. I will install a panic room or get off that plane believe in aliens while recovering from a brutal attack.
Betty - 3/29/2009, 7:56 PM
don't scare me like that hawk i mean cage is an ok actor but i don't want to see him as a bat villain i couldn't picture him as any of them
dogchasingcars - 3/29/2009, 11:13 PM
I guess he want's some of that Batman movie pie, because it's gonna rape the box office again. lol
GameAnime45 - 3/29/2009, 11:19 PM
id like to see him in the movie but not as a villain maybe a minor character or minor villain.
tyko450 - 3/29/2009, 11:46 PM
Cage should be a casuality of Joker.
TheSoulEater - 3/30/2009, 12:45 AM
Ew.
J. "Falcon" Ayers - 3/30/2009, 2:00 AM
cage should be a causality period. he sucks.
loelife - 3/30/2009, 2:11 AM
Its Tim Boothe from the band James blink and you will miss him, cant believe thats who he was meant to be as it is a bit vague. He was also in the Crow the one that died in a car explosion. "Fire it up fire it up"
cyberstew - 3/30/2009, 3:51 AM
Tim Boothe who plays mr Zszasz I meen.
cyberstew - 3/30/2009, 3:53 AM
What have you been smokin Cyberstew?

Tim Booth was never in The Crow.
The guy you are confusing him with is David Patrick Kelly (the bad guy from The Warriors). He was T-Bird the henchman that got all exploded.
LeonardShelby - 3/30/2009, 5:38 AM
Nic Cage ruins every thing he touches and should not even be able to watch ANY Batman movies
Toxin - 3/30/2009, 6:30 AM
over the hill. no interest. needs to take a long vacation.
Kubrick - 3/30/2009, 6:35 AM
DEAR GOD NO! Nicolas Cage is the kiss of death.
mativ16 - 3/30/2009, 6:46 AM
WOW! I knew Nic Cage wore a rug, but I never knew the damage undeneath it was this bad. Head looks like a nerf ball that has been played with by an energetic dog.
icebergslick - 3/30/2009, 7:01 AM
I don't have any witty comments to add (good one iceberg), I just don't think that he belongs. Because of the fact that no villian comes to mind instantly for him to play then bringing him on would mean one of 2 things would happen: either they'd give him a role that he wouldn't fit in or they'd force a character into the script that wouldn't belong who he could play and in either case it wouldn't be good for the movie.
MetalHead - 3/30/2009, 7:57 AM
does anyone even see him as a villain i mean he really doesn't do villains all that much in any of his movies.
dogchasingcars - 3/30/2009, 8:08 AM
You would know straight off the people that think Nic Cage began his career with Con Air! Dudes a great actor..hes just a lazy bastard that phones in his performances most of the time. But how anyone can watch Raising Arizona, Adaptation, Leaving Las Vegas, Bringing out the Dead or The Weatherman and still think hes a bad actor is beyond me..that being said i honestly cant think of a villain that he would suit for Batman..Maybe Maxy Zeus!
Rorschach01 - 3/30/2009, 8:14 AM
I think he should just worry about GHOST RIDER 2!!! Geez, this and KICK ASS coming out, that's enough of CAGE in comicbook movies lol! Yes he's a great actor, anyone says he ain't and ain't enjoyed some of his movies are lying!!! Anyway, this could happen if ppl don't hope for the best on GHOST RIDER 2!!! Can't wait for that! Oh, he could play a good CLAYFACE ya right lol! Best villain CAGE played gotta be in FACE OFF!!! ; ) p.s. he'd make a good PUNISHER villain!!!
LEEE777 - 3/30/2009, 8:19 AM
I agree! Nick Cage would be a waaaaaaay better Punisher Villian, like Travolta was! But I still don't want him as John Blaze. I still want a Rob Zombie Reeboot of The Spirit of Vengeance!!! woot woot! :)
SpiderMan209 - 3/30/2009, 9:09 AM
He's too ridiculous looking and cheesy an actor to be in a Batman movie in any capacity other than either a remake of the 60's camp TV show, or an Arkahm inmate that gets raped by Bane.

That or they create a new villain called Pencil-Necked-Geek Man and he can play that.
gtrman - 3/30/2009, 9:14 AM
He just wants another Oscar nomination.
Hairyman - 3/30/2009, 9:30 AM
I don't like his acting particularly well, since he's sort of monotoned, but I think he would be good as Hush.
bleclercq - 3/30/2009, 9:56 AM
I really don't see him being in a Batman movie. But if he does end up being a villan, I guess I could see him as Mr. Freeze... But... Eh... I don't know...
BmanHall - 3/30/2009, 10:06 AM
don't bring up freeze my mind is still trying to get rid of the horror known only as batman and robin i don't want to see or hear freeze for atleast another ten years
dogchasingcars - 3/30/2009, 10:14 AM
Keeel da heroes!!!
Tobuttica - 3/30/2009, 10:25 AM
Ha! Him and the rest of Hollywood! Like any one's going to turn down a pie that juicy?! Oh yeah, Hoffman!

I think I can safely say that we can all count out seeing clay-face or killer croc on screen. Nolan is keeping Batman very much in the real world so any villain with a hint of power or mutation is out of the running. The only one that may be an exception is Bane but even then he will be drastically altered into just being a very strong man.
Howlett04 - 3/30/2009, 10:36 AM
Nic Cage?

Have him be Arnold Wesker aka The Ventriloquist... Crime Boss who's a lil nuts and hides behind his puppet, Scarface, I believe his name is. Could be pretty interesting, but almost too Jigsaw from SAW-ish.

Or have him be a random criminal. Who walks off of a roof. For no apparent reason.

Actually, I prefer the second option.
BaronBubba - 3/30/2009, 11:23 AM
I'm probably all alone here, and I'm not a huge proponent of Cage. Granted, his earlier work was very good, but he is just makin money right now, not acting. All that said, I think he could pull something great out of the right material, given the right role. With his look and folicle challanges (shout to iceberg) I think Killer Croc could actually work for him. If he beefed up a bit and shaved his head (or just went sans rug)

Howlett04 - you have a point there. But if Nolan does go in that other direction. There could be worse choices. Far better choices, absolutely, but it could be worse.
BillyBlack - 3/30/2009, 11:34 AM
cage can only play himself in movies. and he is boring as hell. do us all a favor and stay away from batman
Torque - 3/30/2009, 11:40 AM
Nerf ball. LOL

IT DOES! That energetic puppy tore his sh*t up! LOL
SpiderMan209 - 3/30/2009, 12:36 PM
Ya know if they did clay face it would be awesome. They could do it like that movie taking lives. Have the guy completely change everything as best he can. And commit murders itd be kinda cool.
Set2Fallfirst - 3/30/2009, 12:58 PM
You know where I'd like to see Cage in a Batman movie? The audience. I doubt he has any chance of landing any sort of role in Batman 3, though, so I'm not concerned. He could always try and pull a Sean Young and go harass Nolan dressed as the villain he'd like to play. That usually works out well.
spasmaticgonads - 3/30/2009, 1:24 PM
I would rather see an aging, barely able to move Sean Connery (League of Extraordinary Gentlemen anyone? He needed a stunt man to do the running scenes for him. Still love him though.)

Cage just can't handle a movie that relies on a ton of personality or emotion. And he's definitely not believable as a bad-ass. Con-Air was overrated. I'm sorry, but I'm pretty sure Nicholas Cage couldn't kick my grandma's ass let alone mine or hardened criminals.
dizzle716 - 3/30/2009, 1:31 PM
"Ever been dragged onto the sidewalk and beaten till you... P P P PISS... BLOOD!!!"

BmanHall - 3/30/2009, 1:43 PM
Not like I want to see this character on film, but maybe, Kirk Langstrom/Man-Bat. I dont buy Cage as a villian.
DarkAvengers - 3/30/2009, 1:48 PM
When I said Cage could be Clayface, I was talking about the original Clayface. Here is a brief description from wiki:

"The original Clayface, Basil Karlo, appeared in Detective Comics #40. He is an actor who is driven mad when he hears of a remake of the classic horror film he had starred in, The Terror, even though he is to be one of the advising staff. Donning the mask of the film's villain, Clayface, he embarks on a murder spree among the cast and crew of the remake. He is foiled by Batman and Robin. He reappears in Detective Comics #49 (March 1941) after the prison ambulance he is riding in plunges off a cliff. He once again dons the mask of Clayface and targets Bruce Wayne's fiancee. Once again, the Dynamic Duo foil the evil Karlo."

I think he could pull off that character well, can that character drive a movie, no.

He would be about right for Ventriloquist though.

THEHAWK - 3/30/2009, 3:00 PM
Lets not forget Nic Cage most prized Movie...FaceOff. He played a psycho villian and the hero. You can't beat that atcing.
Crusader - 3/30/2009, 4:11 PM
I freakin loved Raisin Arizona and i forgot about Faceoff and i liked that too! I am torn. Cuz he does phone it in alot like Ror-01 said.
shibazz - 3/30/2009, 4:23 PM
Nic Cage as robin The bald wonder nuff sad
darthstern - 3/30/2009, 4:31 PM
What was Nicolas Cage's last good film? Because Snake Eyes was 11 years ago and Face/Off is 12 years old now.
SoulAllFlush - 3/30/2009, 5:09 PM
The more Cage movies I see, the more I'm convinced that he's actually not that good of an actor, and I don't think he'd fit at all.
Shadow89 - 3/30/2009, 5:23 PM
All the naysayers are and Cage bashers must be forgetting Lord of War. (a personal favorite of mine, btw)

I'd like to see more scarecrow, Bane and the Riddler (a Johnny Depp Riddler, to be exact) and a Harleen Quinzel cameo in batman 3, and if more batman films are made, I'd like to see Catwoman, Harley, an older, more callous Joker, and a Penguin reminiscent of PSH's Owen Davian (M:I III).

Though I don't think Cage is worthy of all the negative commentary, I dont think he would fit any of the Batman villains i've listed above. The thought of him as the ventriloquist is an interesting notion though. He might make a good Mr. Freeze, if the character was written right.

Montross - 3/30/2009, 5:56 PM
I think that if they could convince him to put in the effort that Heath Ledger did he could play a good Mad Hatter, that is a villain I think would work well for the Nolan-verse to transition it into the greater DC universe's fantasticness.

So, he never said super villain right, that is the joke you guys are referring to?
HarrisonBergeron - 3/30/2009, 7:36 PM
"All the naysayers are and Cage bashers must be forgetting Lord of War"

No, but I'm trying to.
J. "Falcon" Ayers - 3/30/2009, 9:27 PM
seriously Nick Cage has just accepted some seriously stupid movies he always plays his character well its just the movie sucks but anyway i could see him as Jason Blood though and for those of u who dont kno who that is its Etrigan the Demon. He might be able to pull off a Mr.Freeze but then again anybody would be better than Arnold at that roll
CaptainAmerica87 - 3/30/2009, 10:21 PM
keep nick cage far Far FAR away from the Batman franchise. He already sucked as Johnny Blaze.
musicsuperhero - 3/30/2009, 10:38 PM
I AGREE.

KEEP CAGE AWAY from BATMAN! As in dont even talk to him...Go work on Ghost Rider 2 cage! lol
Aiiwolf - 3/31/2009, 7:14 AM
Yeah GHOST RIDER 2 calling you MR CAGE!!! : D
LEEE777 - 3/31/2009, 7:33 AM
I dont think he is all that bad. His earlier movies were good but you are only as good as your last review I guess. I still like him though but we see him all over the place like Angelina Jolie. He is already Ghost Rider. Time to get some fresh, new people. The article only said IF they called to invite him he would do it..
So, maybe they wont call?.... hint..hint...

KeepItReal - 3/31/2009, 8:00 AM
let us not forget the DVD in between Begins and Dark Knight, Batman: Gotham Knight. thought it was not directed by Nolan himself, he did have a hand in it, so we can safely say we won't see any of the villains featured there in any major form in an upcoming film. Those would include Killer Croc and Deadshot.
AdamFalcon - 3/31/2009, 8:03 AM
I'm really not on board with the whole "Johnny Depp Riddler" train. It seems to be a pretty crowded train since that rumor got floated out there. In light of him apparently turning down the GL role, I'd like to see Ryan Gosling take a stab at the Riddler. I think he could have the same effect Ledger did on the Joker. Johnny's just a bit too... recognizable, I guess? At this stage of his career at least. I just see more Johnny and less of the actual character.
BillyBlack - 3/31/2009, 10:09 AM
Batman's next villain should be Gary Busey, as Himself.
Betty - 3/31/2009, 12:40 PM

@ KeepItReal

I think it's cool that you put that on here. Very cool. Thanks.
BmanHall - 3/31/2009, 2:31 PM
I think Cage could be great as Hush. Sure he's fallen away from respectable roles lately but he can act when presented with the right role.
Matches Malone - 3/31/2009, 6:34 PM
He's been pretty dead of an actor lately, but for a Batman role he should play a footstool.
GameAnime45 - 3/31/2009, 8:39 PM
I liked three movies from Cage; and that is it! Raising Arizona, The Rock (just good fun, not so much him), and National Treasure (again, not him but the plot). Regarding him as a villian for Batman's third installment, I'm gonna say no, unless its like the beginning of TDK where the Scarecrow is busted and it was S-U-P-E-R brief. Hawk, love your idea for Clayface. If he wears a mask, he may have to act.

Ok, this subject can be very sensitive, but I like the idea when I saw it. What about Paul Giamatti playing the Penguin? I know many wince when the Penguin is mentioned, but if he got the right treatment, it could be very interesting. I was thinking a Manchurian Mayoral election placed by the mob. Where he would undermine the work of Bats from a seat of legitimacy. This may involve another villian that would provide the action. The only viable option (as was mentioned) as I see it, is Bane. He can hurt Bats, and is very plausible in Nolan's Gotham...a hired strong-arm on 'Roids. The Riddler "can" be good, but his persona can be too closely related to that of the Joker and it wouldn't sell to the audience.

Thoughts?
Phinehas - 3/31/2009, 10:05 PM
Another good "threat" to Batman in the next movie could be DeadShot.
bojofilm - 4/1/2009, 12:54 AM
Phinehas - that's not a bad penguin pick! I can totally see him doing it and yes, if done right he could be a great villain. You seem to have the same sort of idea as me when it comes to "who" the Penguin should be.

As for Bane. In Nolans world he would just be a strong man popping steroids but that can work if he was a hit-man for the Penguin...

I don't see the Riddler as too close to the Joker. Joker loves to cause mayhem just because he can. There is no (obvious) method to his madness. He loves chaos! Riddler loves structure. He likes to play mind games with his victims and prove his intelligence.

I guess they are similar in their goal but total opposites in how they go about it, and that is why I think Riddler will work well as the next villain. He wants what Joker wanted. You could have him even idolise the Joker, see him going through news paper cut-outs etc. and coming to the conclusion that Joker failed because he lacked structure. And the Riddler is born.
Howlett04 - 4/1/2009, 9:34 AM
I'd like to see Cage play cape. Yes, Batmans cape, very loose and free but as soon as that button is pressed...stiff as wood!
Howlett04 - 4/1/2009, 9:45 AM
As I inferred, I SAW it suggested that Paul Giamatti play the Penguin. It may very well have been you that suggested it, Howlett04. Its a brilliant idea. I am concerned about flooding the story with too many villians. You are right about your description of the Riddler. But an average moviegoer may see the names of both Joker and Riddler, and not understand the distinction. That is my concern. I like the Bane and Penguin angle until something better (IMO) is suggested.
Phinehas - 4/1/2009, 11:40 PM
Nic Cage named his kid Kal El. That alone would cause an increase in the insurance bond for the producers to pay. L-O-C-o.
Phinehas - 4/2/2009, 10:46 PM
Nicholas Cage ruined Ghost Rider... for the love of God, don't let him ruin another character...
joNathanPetrelli - 4/3/2009, 9:45 AM
I think he's after the Alfred role, he could easily pull off the Michael Gough look!

castle4punisher - 4/3/2009, 4:42 PM
I changed my mind, he could play the Batcomputer!
castle4punisher - 4/3/2009, 4:57 PM
Or maybe a supporting beam in the batcave!

castle4punisher - 4/3/2009, 5:05 PM
Or maybe the Batmatch, because at the same time he'll be reprisising his role as Ghostrider!
castle4punisher - 4/3/2009, 5:08 PM
castle4punisher: Thats cold. Let him at least play a human with all his chromosomes.
Phinehas - 4/3/2009, 10:45 PM
yeah, but he's a terrible actor at the same time so lets just not let him in any more comicbook related movies ever again?
joNathanPetrelli - 4/4/2009, 3:00 PM
because he's a terrible actor.. just wanted to make that clear..
joNathanPetrelli - 4/4/2009, 3:00 PM
@ Castle4Punisher

U ARE "HE-LARRY-US"!!!!...uahahahahahahahaha!
Thanks for the laugh...muahahahahahahaha!

@ jonathanpetrelli

I agree, with what you just said. Cage Ghost rider 2's calling you, now stay the [frick] away from Batman :)
Aiiwolf - 4/4/2009, 6:27 PM
I didn't think Heath ledger could pull off a good joker and he did better than anybody expected him to... I say give Nic Cage a chance.
Xandera - 4/5/2009, 6:47 PM
we already did...
joNathanPetrelli - 4/6/2009, 7:44 AM
I think it would be best if Nic Cage just stayed the hell away from comic book movies unless he is watching them.
