Branagh is going to take a little more time on casting the god of thunder.

ReelzChannel recently reported that the amazing director of the upcoming Thor movie, Kennth Branagh, is going to take a little bit longer in his casting for the God of Thunder and his supporting cast.

Channing Tatum was thought to be in the running, but he has officially been removed from consideration. Tatum told MTV that, while he did meet with Branagh about the role, he is no longer a candidate. "I think they're looking for someone more Nordic-looking."

With the release date pushed back till 2011 Branagh will have plenty of time to make the correct choice for the Son of Odin. My money for Thor is on Karl Urban.

Maybe this will give Branagh the opportunity to realize that he doesn't need an actor to play Loki, since he himself is perfect for the role.

i think their mistake is trying to find someone who looks like thor in real life...like all the actors their looking all naturally have long blonde hair....find a good actor, slap a wig on him and go on...because i d much rather have a good actor in a wig then a bad one with goldylocks...

Agreed. Though the natural look is cheaper haha.

lol that guy probably didn't even know who Thor was. He's probably having trouble because this is totally unlike anything he has done before. I have no faith in Branaugh as a director on this picture. I mean I am hoping for the best but ... I hate to say it but just look at how Wolverine turned out. Wolverine should have been a lot easier than Thor to get right, but the ass clowns still couldn't manage.
Whatever went wrong on that one could just as easily happen on this one too. It's mind boggling that Hollywood is so chaotic that these idiot directors and writers can continually piss away so much money and opportunity, and not learn a thing.

longer time to prepare in making a movie would mean less chances of f'ing up. im all good with 6-12 months delay.

They should the from the 13th Warrior that played Buliwyf, Vladimir Kulich, to play Thor. That dude would look perfect.

Good! I'd rather see these guys take their time and find the right guy to play Thor, rather than just signing the first big blonde actor that has some time available.

You know what's truly ironic is that if I could have just a 10 minute chat with Branagh, I could tell him everything he needs to know to make this thing a HIT. That's it. Just 10 minutes. But of course that's impossible.

Yep, take all the frakking time in the world Mr Brannagh, provided you deliver the goods.

vanillabear i think Josh Holloway has the look for Thor but im not sure that southern twang lends itself to the Shaksperean dialogue..and i really dont know if hes a good enough actor to disguise it..but maybe, hes great as Sawyer anyway.

This to me suggests they are struggling and I can see the same happening with CA. But best things come to those who wait so if it means the right man in the right film, I'll just (eagerly) bide my time!

@JUGGERNAUT

Wow, guess that glass is half empty huh? The major difference between Wolverine and Thor will be FOX. Thor is being made by Marvel and they've done a pretty good job so far...........so have some faith.

Keven: Gerarld Butler WAS ALREADY OFFERED the part, but he refused to play it, arguing that "..it would be too much of a power to handle" (refering to playing both Bond and Thor, at the same time)

On the other hand, Urban has been many guys´pick from a long time now, specially one of most "promoted" picks from Shaman. He wrote an article about Urban-Thor....

..Shaman if you are around here, could you post the link to that article from your fansite?

Its funny how in the comics, Thor is 6'10 and 325 pounds. He may be more than that. Why would they talk to Channing Tatum??? Hes another teenie bopper fag.

Juggernaut: You obviously haven't read any of the previous threads about Branagh, and the incredible amount of support that Marvel, and Joe Quesada in particular have given him.

Here's a little bit from Sid Ganis, the previous President of the Academy of Motion Pictures, and liason to Marvel Studios:

Sid Ganis: I have to start off by telling you that when I was the head of Paramount, I gave him his very first movie to direct—the very first. He made a great movie in "Dead Again." So my thoughts about Kenneth are very positive. He's had a movie career, stage career and acting career—in both movies and on stage and as a director and writer in some cases. I'm very excited for what's about to come from Ken. When I check in with Kevin Feige [President of Marvel Studios] and the guys here, [they tell me] Ken is conceptualizing "Thor" in such a unique way—I think us fan guys—we will be happy with what turns up. I'm excited about Ken, He's great and committed to "Thor." You have no idea how committed to this he is. There's nothing else on his mind, of course not, it's a huge job. But he's not acting in other movies, or thinking about directing other movies after "Thor." His whole brain and being is with "Thor."

Quesada himself stated in a recent MyCupoJoe blog that he was surprised how much Branagh knew about the character, and how much enthusiasm Branagh had for the story. I for one am extremely excited, and cannot wait to see what is in store!

As for the casting, I hope to GOD he takes his sweet @$$ time, and casts this role and all of the following VERY CAREFULLY!!!

I'm not a Kenneth Branagh fan, and I don't really rate him as a director.

Still I'm positive about this, I like how he doesn't with to rush it. I only hope he doesn't dawdle too much, else this whole project could be scraped like so many before it

@ adamant877:

No I hadn't heard that before now, and it does sound very positive. But on the other hand, they say that "feige is conceptualizing Thor in such a unique way" .... frankly I find that statememnt suspect. How come they didn't say that they were going to stay close to the source material? Like Favs did? That made IM a hit??
Dude I hate to be a party pooper but every time they get started on one of these they say lots of stuff like that. Everybodies patting each other on the back, and making all this positive sounding noise, and spamming about how great everything is and then we get to the theater and it's a whole different story.
I remember Mark Steven Johnson said that he was a "huge Daredevil fan" and was "working hard to deliver as faithful a rendition as possible". He said that crap to the press even as he was turning a movie about my childhood hero into a cheesy trainwreck.

So anyway thanks for the quote, but trip off this: If there's any one thing Hollywood has proven it's that if there's some way to blow it, then that's exactly what they will do lol

Karl Urban and Gerard Butler would both be ok with me.

and to Talontd: I know I sound too negative. I guess I am just pissed about Wolverine. And Elektra. And X3. And Hulk... you get the picture. ;-)

Kenneth Branagh is one of my favorite directors/ actors. And trust me if he is given free rain, this will be straight from the source material. I mean look at all of his Shakespeare movies! His version of Hamlet was the most accurate to the Book EVER, and it was FOUR HOURS! So trust my trust in im, there is no way he will screw this up.

BRANAGH is the nuts!!! I really can't wait for this one! Though it better be the REAL THOR with the REAL hammer an helmet! Not that crappy lame green peace ULTIMATE version, not only does he look crap, he looks real gay too!!! U gotta have the HELMET the Viking thing always looks good on film, especially if it makes the face dark! Look at PATHFINDER oh yeah go and watch OUTLANDER if ya ain't seen it, you should, its AWESOME!!! ANYWAY, NOOOOOOO ULTIMATE VERSION!!! Even that ULTIMATE Hammer looks lame! : D

LEEE777 - 4/8/2009, 2:32 PM
Oh yeah,,, should be an UNKNOWN underated actor!!! (as in good actor). THOR should be as EPIC as LOTR (ofcourse they can't make it as long though pity). I think what would work would be if the last 10 or 20 minutes of THOR should be in our time or the very most a 3rd of the movie!!! ; )

Juggernaut: Although I hate to admit it, you're mostly right. I've seen far too many adaptations to say that there's no merit to what you're saying, but then again, as it has been stated previously, this is a Marvel Studios production, which means that they have a lot more creative control, and with someone like Branagh backing it, I have the utmost faith that we're going to see one HELL of a movie! And thanks for your input.

As for me, I think I'm leaning a little towards Skaarsgard, but that's just my personal taste. ;-)

Jesus Leee777, could you have name checked 2 worse movies! If Thor turns out like either Pathfinder or Outlander we are all [frick]ed! Also, I hope he does look more like Ultimate Thor and even act a bit more like him too! I know thats a big deviation from the classic character but it fits in better with a movie environment..especially for when the Avengers comes out.
