Jeff Bridges Talks Tron: Legacy

Jeff Bridges Talks Tron: Legacy

Not only is Jeff Bridges reprising his role of Kevin Flynn from the original 1982 "Tron" in the upcoming sequel "Tron: Legacy," but he's doing it twice. That is to say, he's playing an aged version of Flynn as well as a young whippersnapper incarnation -- through the magic of computer technology, of course. What will they think of next?

Here Bridges discusses the technique which the filmmakers used to de-age him for the film...

"It was challenging, in that I got a little taste of this new technology of acting what they call 'in the volume' and making movies without cameras," Bridges says. "It's a completely different deal. That was kind of a challenge."

We all got a glimpse of Bridges' dual role in the teaser for the film, as well as the new, updated look of the Tron world. But Bridges says this is only the tip of the iceberg, and compares the original film's technology to something like "an old black-and-white TV show" when compared to the new movie.

"All that technology that we were going to use in the movie itself is used in the trailer," Bridges says. "It wasn't as highly polished as the movie is going to be, but it gives you a little peek into what you might find. That teaser was something they do kind of often with movies, and I think it's a good idea. The Coen brothers told me they did it with making Blood Simple. Before they even shoot the movie at all, they shoot the trailer of the movie, as if it was already made, and then they use that to entice the financiers. So, even though it was a Disney property, Disney wanted them to shoot this pretty expensive trailer. I don't know how much it cost, but it was pretty expensive."

Tron:Legacy is due for release about a year from now.

Well, they shouldn't have done that because the trailer looks like crap. They should have called them "test shots".

I thought the trailer looked pretty good.
And the lightcycles weren't moving any faster in the original. Sure, they looked incredibly fast when they were on the grid, but when they broke off the grid, they weren't moving any faster than in this new trailer.

I thought the "Teaser" was decent and captured the essence of "Tron" Clearly anyone who thought it looked like crap needs to go back and watch the Original. Personally I'm looking forward to Tron 2

Skot888-- Oh I'm a Tron freak! I also went to school for animation and if those shots of the digital landscape from the teaser are meant for a feature, they are laughable. Also, the digital rejuvenation thing isn't fooling anyone. They need to work on that. I mean remember Charles and Mags? Terrible.
