The Time has Come to Make Our Voices Heard!

It's a small step, but a step in the right direction. Sign the petition and let's see where it leads us.
There has been more than enough chatter in our comments sections to know that we fans are not happy with the way most of our favorite Marvel characters are portrayed on screen. Marvel Studios has given us two of the best comic book movies we've seen, Iron Man & The Incredible Hulk.; movies that have given fans hope for their future projects. Here's where the problem arises: the Marvel movie universe will NEVER be complete without the ability to intertwine Spider-Man, the X-Men, Daredevil and the Fantastic Four into the same continuity as the Avengers. It's time they put their money to good use and buy back their character's rights that are currently held by other studios.

We need to take a more active role and let the executives at Disney and Marvel know how we feel. Below you'll find the petition I've created. Let's see if we can garner enough support to make the big wigs take notice:

To: Disney & Marvel Entertainment

We are your loyal customers. We've purchased your comics and merchandise for most of our lives.

We are your avid supporters. We've followed the history of your comic characters from beginning to end and back again. We've welcomed new writers and illustrators, as well as their diverse character interpretations, with open arms.

We do not wish to see anymore of our beloved characters portrayed in movies that do not showcase their true potential.

We do not want to see the essence that made these characters great destroyed by studios that only wish to make a quick buck.

We are tired of trying to convince the general movie-going audience that your characters are fictional masterpieces after a horrible film shows them as otherwise.

We are frustrated seeing mediocre films that could and should have been great.

We are your true fans, the backbone of your industry.

And we implore you to find a way in which to bring these lost heroes home. Buy their rights back from Sony, Fox, Universal and anyone else who does not deserve to have them.

Do whatever it takes to finally give us what we've been missing: a united Marvel Cinema Universe. It has the potential to revolutionize comic based movies, and solidify your high ranking place in the film industry.

I know, at times, we seem hard to please. That is only because we care so much about these characters; they've touched each of our lives in one way or another. Is it too much to ask for you to back this endeavor when it will be both enormously pleasing to fans and prove financially lucrative for you?

We know it is not. We know that now is the time for these measures to be taken. And we hope, at least now, you know it too.

Click HERE to sign the petition.

You have my permission to copy the petition link and use it on your personal forums and websites. Let's spread the word and put a little effort into making our voices heard!

This is cool and everything, but this makes it sound like the studios that produced the unpopular movies did it on purpose just to screw with the fans. I don't think that's true, I think they really believed that they were doing right by us. No amount of signatures is going to cure movie studio dunderheadedness.
gibbyblaylock - 11/13/2009, 11:55 PM
@gibby: The point of the petition isn't to complain about the way other studios have handled Marvel characters in the past, it's to let Marvel Entertainment know how much faith we have that they could do the character justice in the future. Maybe it will help, maybe it won't. But it's definitely worth a try, don't you think?

Uuuuuh, there's plenty I can say to this because I agree and disagree.

1. That's why we have reboots.
2. Shouldn't have had to make reboots in the first place.
3. Let time play out. Change will come soon. Not just in theaters either.
4. Check the cartoons, too.
5. Ryan Reynolds.
6. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. What may seem bad or unnecessarily imperfect to you, may be cinematic Da Vinci for someone else.
7. Don't just stop at petitions. That only scares people into thinking there's just a problem, but no possible solution. Try to get on the inside somehow.
8. Downey and Cheadle. Godly.

Nothing to lose in trying I suppose. However, I don't think it'll make a lick of difference nor would it prompt Disney to spend that much money trying to get the rights to Sony's and Fox's cash cow.

I'd love to see Marvel get X-Men back and have a proper Wolverine movie as well as a finer polished Spider-Man film - but as long as these properties continue to make hundreds of millions of dollars for the numbnuts in charge they'll bleed it dry and punch its corpse. I think the reality of it would be that at the point when joe public and the fan community are so disgusted with what they've (the studios) have done and have alienated most everyone from the franchises they've erected, then, they will be willing to let it go and not before.

I'm sure Sony and Fox would be more inclined to cut a deal sooner and before they obliterate the properties if people would just stop buying these suckfests on BluRay/DVD as well as flooding the theaters. The bottom line is what they look at to see if they're doing good and if it's a case of the grumbling of a fan community verses topping the DVD sales, then we'll easily be ignored.

WeaponX i didn't buy [frick]ing BORIGINS on Blu-Ray, but a lot on here did, [frick]ing shame on them lol!! ; D

Come on, what would we rather have for FIRST CLASS ???

A sh1tty W*NKERINES 90210 spin off =

(Yeah i know its not the 90210 lot, but you get the picture lol).

Or a REAL X-MEN FIRST CLASS =

thedarkknight666 - 11/14/2009, 3:06 AM
Well, as it's Fox who have made all of the bad CBM's so far, I cant see Marvel taking any notice of this especially when despite the negative fan response and reviews they've done well in the box office - Marvel/Diney arent going to pay millions to get the rights back to all of their characters because of a few disgruntled fans unfortunately. :(

Still, if you dont try then you wont get anything at all so its worth a go! SIGNED. :)

#104 .i dont think they can buy it back while the fox and sony properties are still hot...but as Marvel studios put out quality and fox put out crap...then time will bring a great solution. 1.either they step up their game to make the kind of money Marvel studios will be making with their quality movies or 2. they sell their dying franchise back to the rightful owners for yet another quick buck.

Killian - 11/14/2009, 5:13 AM
sorry to say this but it wont make any differences its all about the MONEY. the whole Disney/Marvel partnership is basically the same as WB/DC partnership.

the Mickey Mouse and Wolverine fusing might sound stupid and i agree. but who remembers Daffy Duck as Duck Dodgers became the Green Lantern.

I agree with WeaponX. They (thepowersthatbe)could care frakkin less about a "petition" some fanboys put on the interwebs. I am NOT trying to belittle Poni or anyone else in regards to trying to get the right thing done with OUR Heroes. I just think They only care about the bottom line.$$$$.

InFamouslyCool - 11/14/2009, 7:17 AM
Thanks to all of you who are helping out! For those that insist on being so friggin' negative PAY ATTENTION:

1) If all you do is sit on your asses and complain, nothing will get done anyway. What's the harm in taking a small active part?

2) You'd be surprised what a petition can accomplish.

3) Disney is one of the most fan-friendly entertainment companies out there. If you can get this kind of information to the right people, it won't fall on deaf ears.

And who said we are limiting this petition to fanboys?

GET EVERYONE YOU KNOW TO SIGN IT!

In less than 12 hours, we already have close to 200 signatures. That's incredible! Spread the word, we might get to 1,000 by the end of the weekend.

I think it's time to set a goal, I say we shoot for 25,000!

If we get to that number, I'll hand deliver the petition to the Disney/Marvel Execs myself.

DarthMulder - 11/14/2009, 7:49 AM
I signed it but I don't think it was necesary. If I remember correctly I read a couple of articles a while back that stated Marvel was trying to do exactly what we are asking, but some of these properties would take some time.
This is a good idea none the less. It may give the powers that be a little extra incentive.
Hawksblueyes - 11/14/2009, 7:50 AM
DarthMulder- i like spiderman 3 it had a good story and they did venom good for the while he was in the movie i just didnt like them killing harry thats it but the movie was good

would read a book instead. :P perhaps Cervantes... or maybe Joyce

@ expirasin

you said this
"6. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. What may seem bad or unnecessarily imperfect to you, may be cinematic Da Vinci for someone else."

thats what makes this a petition. if you don't agree with it, then you don't sign it. the thing is, the general movie going public couldn't care less if the rights reverted back to marvel. they will NEVER get together and form a petition for Fox, Sony, to KEEP the rights of these characters.
CorndogBurglar - 11/14/2009, 8:41 AM
Leee your last name is Shard?
Betty - 11/14/2009, 8:50 AM
@pete: They were sent out yesterday :)

@CDB: Good point that people need to keep in mind. If we, the fans, can't get together to back something like this then there's no point trying to get others to agree.

People on this site constantly complain about this issue. But ranting on a blog doesn't get us very far. It's time to step up and voice our opinions to those that make the decisions. Like I said before, this is a small step; but a step in the right direction none the less.

@Multi- This is a great idea, as long as they keep the actors they've got for the current movie universe, RDJ, Ed Norton etc, but the rest that are owned by other companies like Spidey, X-Men, Daredevil all need to get re-cast and get put in the marvel universe, then finish the current batman series, have Green Lantern be the start to the DC movie Universe and after a bunch of DC movies come out we have the biggest superhero movie EVER and have Marvel vs Dc......awesome......
Ryden - 11/14/2009, 9:01 AM

3 in my house signed up Multi will try for more friends and family asap. Bitching and doing nothing is far worse then taking a stand people. @Corndog your right the general public probably could care less if marvel gets the rights back, but i also think 25000 fanboys & fangirls signing a petion is a very realistic goal and if a guy like Multi is willing to hand deliver it to Marvel Disney i,m willing to do my part to help out

Betty - 11/14/2009, 9:10 AM

RorMachine - 11/14/2009, 9:23 AM
@MultiPurposePoni

we are not been negative we are speaking the truth about the situation. i support the petition of course like everyone else. but we all know its all about the MONEY.

plus i notice people are panicking think that all the Marvel characters will turn soft or something. people forget that Disney has produce Pirates of the Caribbean movies and up and coming Prince of Perisa and Tron Legacy.

also they are owners of Miramax Films and Touchstone Pictures. remember Miramax Films distrubed Kill Bill, Shaolin Soccer, etc.

the only way Marvel films can work well if the team at Marvel and whoever is going to direct a Marvel movie sit down together and develop a good story.

jazzman - 11/14/2009, 10:03 AM
ROID RAGE!! lol
teabag - 11/14/2009, 10:10 AM

this is pointless. as long as people pay to watch movies like xo: wolverine, they'll keep putting out garbage because it's cheaper to make. get people to boycott movies if you want to convince studios.

MatchesMalone - 11/14/2009, 10:51 AM
Marvel has done great work so far, so why the petition? Disney doesn't have control over Fox, so I don't see how this petition will work. Just my 2 cents.
MarkV - 11/14/2009, 10:55 AM
Somebody bitch slap fanboiii

I'm so glad you did this
Fartman - 11/14/2009, 11:09 AM
LOL teabag.
It would be more likely to get someone @ marvel to read the names on the petition then it would be to get the general public to boycott CBM,s.
You gotta remember we are speaking in the best interest of the caracters that only true fans can appreciate.
When my 5 year old son and I went to see X-Men Origins he actually knew that baraka deadpool was not deadpool.
I was unable to explain to him why the change.
Now if a 5 year old can tell the difference why can't the studio executives @ Fox.
scarface - 11/14/2009, 11:13 AM
@ MarkV we know marvel disney has no control over fox, and i,m sure marvel has viewed some of these CBM,s the same way we have , in disgust. This is just an attempt to let them know that we as the comic book comunity want the studios to stick closer with the source material and not completly change a character such as baraka deadpool. I also agree that MARVEL has done a great job so far ironman and hulk are great CBM,s but the fox,s and sony,s of the world not so great.
scarface - 11/14/2009, 11:22 AM
@MarkV- Disney is the biggest corparation in the world, if Disney wanted to they could buy the rights back from Fox, Sony etc....it's not hard

Multi- I'm opening a bottle of f**king Crown and signing this mother f**ker, done deal brother!
ASSASSIN666 - 11/14/2009, 11:41 AM
@Ryden- It is harder than you think. Look this petition isn't a bad thing but 25,000 isn't enough. It would be a nice accomplishment but you got to think at the big picture. It is a good start but all they will do is say thank you for your interest and then shred it while you are walking out the door. I like the petition I will sign it but if we really want this to work we need to voice our concerns and rise up against the execs.
luecypher - 11/14/2009, 11:54 AM
So... Does this mean we're supporting Disney?
LuV1138 - 11/14/2009, 11:55 AM

RorMachine - 11/14/2009, 12:03 PM

jallanr - 11/14/2009, 12:08 PM
@luecypher: 25,000 is just a goal, I hope we get many more than that! This is just a small step towards a larger movement; it has to start somewhere.

Regarding how Disney execs might react to the petition, I think they'll truly appreciate our perspective. Last year I did some work for Disney at their NY and Orlando offices and I was very impressed by how in-tune they are with their fan base. They have employees that spend day after day reading and responding to fan mail. I think they are one of the few companies in the entertainment industry that a petition like this one might actually influence. Since I still have some Disney contacts in my Rolodex, I might as well put it to use :)

@Zero1: Your mommy called, you're late for snack time again :P

@jazzman: Like you said, it's all about money. And who in the entertainment industry has more money than Disney? If anyone can shell out the kind of shekels to make Sony and Fox happy, it's them. Hell, they might even claim it as a tax right off
MultiPurposePoni - 11/14/2009, 12:10 PM

Jazzman@ whats the harm in trying? :P

@jazzman: Who said it would be easy? The best things to strive for in life are never easy.

And who said it was our decision to make? We're just trying to let the decision makers know where we stand.

You don't know any more than we do if this will work or not. But if you're not a part of the solution, you're part of the problem. Let go of the Devil's Advocate aspect for every situation, try to be positive for once.
MultiPurposePoni - 11/14/2009, 12:32 PM
Thanks for the passive aggressiveness guys thought it might be nice to act like adults.I think my main problem with it is that there needs to be a list of what was done right to the satisfaction of the fans and what was considers to be a failure.box office numbers can be deceptive
Zero1 - 11/14/2009, 12:35 PM
@zero1- How is it whiny? Because fans want a united Marvel Movie Universe? I mean think about it, look at how epic Avengers is shaping up to be, don't you want that for all marvel characters? You're the one whining about everyone on this site.

@jazzman- Disney's good at buisness, since they now own Marvel through and through they can find a way to get those characters back, Disney isn't stupid, they know that people pay to see a good movie.
Ryden - 11/14/2009, 12:38 PM

tea- yea i know but every1 has there opinion

DarthMulder- ok reading a book is good but you cant take it back you still saw the movie you still wanted to know how the movie was by your self thats what alot of ppl do they say they dont like the movie until they see it
flames809 - 11/14/2009, 12:46 PM
@Zero1 you have now put more effort into being negative then positive. This petition Multi started isn't whinny it is simply to inform marvel disney that we are not happy with the movies that Fox,Sony and all the rest have put out. Saying we do or don,t like something is also an opinion we are all entitled to do so yourself included.
You better add 1 more whinny comment teabag lol
scarface - 11/14/2009, 12:56 PM
Does anyone have any idea how much the rights to the characters are worth? I know that Marvel/Disney can afford to buy them but would it be worthwhile for them to do so?
JoshW - 11/14/2009, 12:59 PM
@MultiPurposePoni

i try to be positive but the film studios all in general prove they dont understand the fans why they like these Marvel characters or even Manga characters and Video Game characters.

@teabag

Nothing wrong in trying i support petition just been Devil's Advocate lol.

do anyone know if characters like Black Panther and Dr Strange is part of the Disney/Marvel situation or Marvel is just going to produce them independently.
jazzman - 11/14/2009, 1:08 PM
...I hope so because a Spider-Man movie where he teams up with Daredevil or a Fantastic Four movie featuring an appearence by Iron Man would really be a case of a dream coming true! :)

jazzman: Well, I guess its being made by Marvel but as they belong to Disney that sort of makes it a joint project I think!?
JoshW - 11/14/2009, 1:09 PM
@ flames809 your 100% right about opinions I recall you said you liked spider man 3 i,ll bet 95% of the people here would disagree with you on that and all that was really said to you was and I quote " i,m glad you liked it" no sarcasm just agree to disagree
Zero1 comes in with guns a blazin callin people whinny and thats fine. Do you remember kryzmua he did the same thing, throw out insults first go on the offensive then end up having to go on the defensive, why cause most of us are not people to be pushed around.
scarface - 11/14/2009, 1:14 PM
signed. nicely played Multi
ThePrince - 11/14/2009, 1:19 PM
k what marvel films have actualy been made bad so far? seriously marvel has only put two movies out on its own and disney hasnt really made a marvel movie yet. and disney is helming thor and iron man 2. are you saying that those movies suck? you havent even seen them? i seriously think we are all making up fears of upcoming movies. these guys know what they are dealing with. unless cap and thor and avengers suck then i think this is pointless. might as well tell them what they already know. dont make the movies suck. this petition is pointless.
himynameiszach - 11/14/2009, 1:21 PM
@himynameiszach have you read any of the posts or are you just pulling this out of your i,ll stop myself there. I don't believe anybody said iron man and hulk sucked i know I said I enjoyed them were saying Fox,Sony,Universal and all the rest have done a piss poor job and we want better thats all read the posts before you post
scarface - 11/14/2009, 1:27 PM
OMG this is so incredibly ironic, I just had to speak up..

Zero1: We discuss what we don't like and what we do like about CBM's. That is what we do here. If you don't like it, then don't read it.
If you want a bunch of yesmen for the Hollywood shit machine that just jump on board for any old crap they crank out then your in the wrong place.

There are lots of guys here that don't fit into your stupid blanket generalization anyway.
DarthMulder - 11/14/2009, 1:28 PM
himynameiszach: That's why I said...

"Well, as it's Fox who have made all of the bad CBM's so far, I cant see Marvel taking any notice of this especially when despite the negative fan response and reviews they've done well in the box office above (whether or not that's considered as whiney or not I dont really care, lol - its my opinion!)

However, the petition does have a point to it because if it gets a large enough response, Marvel might begin to take notice of the fact that the people who provide them with their main source of income (buying the comic books) hate what companies like Fox are doing to the characters! Just sign the damn thing man!
JoshW - 11/14/2009, 1:31 PM
No were all wrong DarthMulder it is way better to call names which is childish then come back and say you wanted to have an adult conversation about it
scarface - 11/14/2009, 1:32 PM
@ThePrince: Hey pal! What the hell have you been up to? I've been waiting to hear your voice of reason on many of these posts. Welcome back!

@himynameiszach: Ummm. . . It's obvious you didn't read the article or the petition. Educate yourself
MultiPurposePoni - 11/14/2009, 1:32 PM
@himynameiszach

Marvel studio with Paramount Pictures is only producing thor, iron man 2, captain america and avengers. disney has nothing to do with these characters at all for now. until Marvel studio contract for these characters with Paramount Pictures expire. i think Marvel and Paramount Pictures have a 5 picture deal.

@joshw24

ok was not sure if Marvel/Paramount Pictures are going to produce Black Panther and Dr Strange.

jazzman - 11/14/2009, 1:39 PM
jazzman: I may be wrong but I think I read that after Paramount have produced the movies you listed their deal with Marvel ends and Disney take over! :)
JoshW - 11/14/2009, 1:45 PM
@jazzman: You're beating a dead horse. We get it, you want to play Devil's Advocate. If you don't want to have character continuity with Marvel's movies then just don't sign the petition.

But the points you're stressing don't make much sense in context. I don't think you really understand the point of the article. I suggest you re-read it.

@ASSASSIN: Drink one for me, bro! My party time has been postponed, I'm sick in bed :(

@All: 380 signatures so far, let's break 500 before the day is up!
MultiPurposePoni - 11/14/2009, 1:57 PM
@ zero

there is not a single person that posts on this site that hates every CBM. i'm not sure where you're getting that from. some are good, some are not. just like every other movie. there are even plenty of people on this site that LIKE some of the fox, sony, and other cbm's. jsut not ALL of them. but in marvel's hands, even those GOOD fox/sony movies could be even better.

also, once again, the whole point of a petition is to voice your opinion. if you don't agree with it, then don't sign it. its that simple.

there was no whining in this. (yes, whining has 2 "N's" not 3.) its an opinion that many people share. i guess, by your logic, that anytime YOU don't like something, if you say you didn't like it, then your whining?? then i guess that makes everyone on the planet whiners.
CorndogBurglar - 11/14/2009, 2:00 PM
just signed it!!!! :o)

to be honest tho even if it does get to 25000 they probably wouldnt take any notice because no one here will stop seeing the films or reading the comics so marvel wont be losing any money!

why would they go to the effort of paying loads for the rights to characters that make them money anyway just to keep us fans happy??? i hate to be negative fellas but im just trying to be realistic!! :o(
FAD - 11/14/2009, 2:14 PM
@MultiPurposePoni

signed the petition long time dude. i hope Marvel listen to the fans

jazzman - 11/14/2009, 2:16 PM
@FAD: Thanks for the support! To answer some of your questions:

- Marvel doesn't get the profit most people think they do from other studio's films. The only profit they see are If a character rights' contract was signed in California (for instance) they are only allowed to receive a maximum of 2% net profit that the film (and attributed merchandise) another studio makes. If Disney/Marvel owned the character rights, produced and distributed the same film however they pleased; they would receive the entire gross profit directly.

- The fact that these movies have made boat loads of money in the past is crucial to the decision. There would be no point for Disney/Marvel to shell out $130 million for a character's movie rights, unless they are certain they would recoup it down the road.

- We know it would be a big play for them to go after these rights. We just want them to know that a large number of us feverishly support the option.

- I said this in a previous comment (I know there are alot to look through) so I'll say it again: the Disney execs that I've worked with in the past are very fan friendly. I have a good feeling that they will listen, and help pass this information on to others in their ranks.

Hope that clears it up a bit :)

If we get to 25,000 (hopefully by January, my birthday month) I'll personally take copies of this petition to Disney and Marvel's offices in NY and LA. Might as well make a road trip out of it :)
MultiPurposePoni - 11/14/2009, 2:23 PM
@ FAD

because if Marvel were making these movies, they wouldn't have to split any of the earnings with another studio like Fox/Sony. it would all be theirs. as of now, the other studios that are making these films, i would think, are making the majority of the profits. but if they were Marvel made movies, then ALL of the profits would be Marvel's. like with iron man, they didn't have to give anyone ANY of the earnings, it all went to them, which is why marvel started their own production company to begin with.
CorndogBurglar - 11/14/2009, 2:24 PM
@ multi

lol, we posted that at like the same time, lol. but you're right!
CorndogBurglar - 11/14/2009, 2:24 PM
I for one have not bought anything Wolverine since borigins, the character kinda bores me know and has been boring me since civil war. Borigins was just the straw that broke the camels back. I realize that marvel will still function with no problems without my money.
Your probably right too FAD in the outcome but how can we sit back and do nothing all the time. Multi has stepped forward and offered a platform to voice our opinions. If it works or not its still worth the effort, cause maybe just maybe they'll here us
scarface - 11/14/2009, 2:25 PM
@CDB: You had me at "because"

lol multi cool man
ukboy28 - 11/14/2009, 3:30 PM
Signed. However in the short term I agree with most of the pessimism. In the long run, once all the rights to characters with other studios have reverted to Marvel/Disney; I think the goal of a united Marvel Movie Continuum will be achieved.

That said they will never stop making changes to the characters/stories that are believed to increase their appeal to a larger audience. For example who in their right mind would expect a direct adaptation of Venom's origin or Dark Pheonix? I agree with the wording of the petition that it is the essence and potential of the characters that must be maintained.
juggy4711 - 11/14/2009, 3:30 PM
