EXCLUSIVE: Green Lantern Set Report - Roll Credits

Follow the jump to see what I've found out about the film's final scene, which was shot a few days ago...

DAY 2

Well, actually, it was my third day hanging around the Green Lantern set. I watched them construct a mini Air Traffic Control tower and haul out a few gigantic blue screens in preparation for a "special" scene. Thanks to one of the film's cameramen, I learned a few things about this scene which was just filmed at Second Line Stages and the atmosphere on set:

- The production is operating non-stop, 24 hours a day. Though the actors are usually only filming for 12 hour blocks, the crew is constantly on the go from one location to the next.

- The film's director, Martin Campbell has an unwavering focus. He knows exactly what is needed for each scene and won't settle for anything less than the best performances from his cast and crew.

"It's a pain because he demands perfection in every aspect but it brings out the best in everyone. It's really hard to meet his standard. I haven't met a director that keeps everyone on their toes like [Campbell]."

- The blue screens are used for the same purpose as green screens.

- Ryan Reynolds/Hal Jordan was wearing a grayish jumpsuit during the scene.

- Blake Lively's hair was a very dark brown; I honestly couldn't tell if she was wearing a wig or not.

- Jay O. Saunders was on set wearing a business suit.

- Martin Campbell was constantly going in and out of the ATC tower during the scene. There was a camera set up inside of it as well as the three (that I noticed) outside.

- The scene supposedly takes place at Ferris Air and will be used for the film's finale. It will show Ryan/Hal flying off from the airfield.

Yeah this is the final scene, not the climax... not many movies end with the final battle and then credits straight after. If there are any big cameos, I assume they'll be after the credits.

Anyone taking bets on how long before Poni gets "escorted" from the set?

I reckon he's a resourceful guy, so I give him till day 5 at least. :D

I'm betting Campbell's got eyes on him already though. Stay sharp Poni.

Cool stuff Poni. I so can't wait for this movie. Also was glad to hear that Lively's hair was brown for the movie. I mean, yeah I know its not THAT big of deal if she didn't change her hair but still happy she did because it would've bothered me a little during the movie. Anyways. This is some epic stuff. ^_^

Campbell's thought's, "In brightest day or blackest night, no Poni shall escape my sight, let all who stalk my sets with might, know I've seen you all since the green light!"

I think Campbell thought: "In brightest day, in blackest night, if I find this Poni there's gonna be a fight, let those who think they've escaped my sight, beware my power... the director's might!"

But for real, great scoops Poni!! Keep me salivating throughout my workday!

"The blue screens are used for the same purpose as green screens."- are you sure about that?

i mean, i asked the difference to LUCASFILM Fan-RElations´Steve Sansweet during a convention, and he couldn´t tell... he mentioned that it could be due to the colors of the costumes, etc, but wasnt sure about it.

Yes they both do exactly the same thing - they're both an application of the Chroma key technique (and you can use a range of colours, but green and blue tend to be used because they're the furthest from skin tones)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chroma_key

"a bluescreen will be used if the subject is predominately green (for example plants or members of the Green Lantern Corps), despite the camera being more sensitive to green light."

And your Lucasfilm guy didn't know this? I find that mind-boggling frankly. Are you sure he wasn't just some dude they pulled off the street for the convention?

@ sirJediFrank. it doesnt matter if its blue or green. They do the same things.

@Multi - they ought to just get you to do the making of Green Lantern book. These pictures are golden just like alot of the Star Wars stuff I collected over the years.

@Interesting John: He's a bit dim though, all the same. This stuff has been around since the late 30s (the Thief of Baghdad in 1940 won an Oscar for its bluescreen work) - and it's used massively in the Star Wars pics. Even as a layman I've known about blue/greenscreen technique since I was a kid. Just seemed odd that he didn't know a bit more about the subject is all. :)
