Geoff Johns Talks About Green Lantern's Abin Sur & Hal Jordan

The creative top dog at DC Entertainment has already seen footage of a famous scene for Martin Campbell's Green Lantern. Hint: It involves a spaceship crash and a ring on a mission...

During today's bi-monthly visit between Comic Book Resources and superstar writer Geoff Johns, the future of DC's cinematic universe was inevitably brought up. When asked how quickly he was planning on putting together a slate/time line of comic movies (in an effort to take the limelight away from Marvel, no less), Johns said,

"I can't get into the exact DC slate right now, but we're all working heavily on what that is with Warner Bros. and there will be news forthcoming. But, you can bet there is going to be a lot more than there is right now."

The Green Lantern movie, currently filming in New Orleans, LA, was the next topic briefly touched upon. Since Johns has already made a few set visits, he was asked what he thought of the overall progress of the film and his impression of Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan:

"The movie looks fantastic. I'm heading back down to New Orleans in a few weeks, but I just watched the Abin Sur/Hal Jordan dailies, and it's amazing seeing that ring passed to Hal in live action. Abin Sur looks kick-ass."

[The first image of Abin Sur's ship was revealed here last week. The filming took place in Madisonville, LA between Monday, April 4th, and Thursday, April 8th.]

"They did such a great job. They've got Grant [Major] as a production designer. He's from 'Lord of the Rings,' and the visuals on this film are nothing like you could imagine. It's definitely a Green Lantern fan's dream. For me, it's kind of insane to see this stuff come to life.

"And Ryan Reynolds is a perfect Hal Jordan. He brings a lot of humor to it, but he also has the humanity that Hal has. And a little bit of the arrogance, so it's a great match. "

If Johns likes how the dallies are coming along, it may not be too far of a stretch to expect a teaser trailer put together exclusively for this year's San Diego Comic Con at the end of July.

"He brings a lot of humor to it" ??? I am psyched about Reynolds in the role, but I sure as hell hope Van Wilder doesn't show up to ruin it. Too much campy humor will kill it for me.

ClintEastwood- Micheal Turner did NOT draw HUSH,
Turner only drew 6 issues of
Superman/Batman!..Jim Lee drew HUSH
and Ed McGuiness drew issues #1-#6
and #20-#25...Turner ONLY drew issues
#8-#13..The rest were drawn by various
artists..Micheal WAS the BEST artist
EVER! and also MY FAVORITE!..to many
lines you say?..That is called genius
and DETAIL!..I for one LOVE his art
work. He was the HIGHEST paid cover
artist BEFORE he DIED..If I could I
would have given MY life to SAVE his
and I don't even personally KNOW him.

peterparker420@ I don't think anyone could have said it any better. Michael Turner's artwork is some of the best I've ever seen. His detailed art work brought not only the panels but the story itself to life. So much of the art today all looks the same that all you had to do was catch a glimse of a cover and you knew it was Turner's work. God bless Michael Turner and may your work be mention in the same breath as Kirby, Seigel, and Kane.

This movie is sounding better and better as time goes on. My only hope is that it lives up to the hype, or at least, the hype dies down enough to allow for a realistic achievement...

Although, I whole-heartedly agree with the casting of Reynolds as Hal...The only problem with him is that his scarcastic, deadpan delivery fits him for SO MANY superheroes and villians that he may very well be stuck playing comic characters throughout the rest of his life...too many characters to play, and he has too much talent not to play each and every one...

...and I still say that his Hannibal King was the only thing that didn't make Blade III totally suck...
ClintEastwood

PeterParker420-I know he didn't go near Hush, That was all the glorious Jim Lee, Turner in the Supergirl Saga puts too many lines. It was such a difference from the Public Enemies it was kind o surprising, I'm not saying he was bad, I just prefer the cleaner crisp work.I didn't know he died, that sucks, Darkseid looked great.
