Bringing the enduring popular superhero to the big screen for the first time, “Green Lantern” stars Ryan Reynolds (“X-Men Origins: Wolverine”) in the title role, under the direction of Martin Campbell (“Casino Royale”).

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.

Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

Campbell directs “Green Lantern” from a screenplay by Greg Berlanti & Michael Green & Marc Guggenheim and Michael Goldenberg, story by Greg Berlanti & Michael Green & Marc Guggenheim, based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics.

The film also stars Blake Lively (upcoming “The Town,” TV’s “Gossip Girl”) as the spirited Carol Ferris, a test pilot and the heir apparent to her father’s aviation company; Peter Sarsgaard (“An Education,” “Flightplan”) as scientist Dr. Hector Hammond; Mark Strong (“Sherlock Holmes”) as Sinestro, Jordan’s powerful mentor in the Green Lantern Corps; Jay O. Sanders (“Revolutionary Road”) as Carl Ferris, Carol’s aircraft designer dad; Temuera Morrison (“Star Wars” Episodes II and III) as Abin Sur, Jordan’s alien predecessor; Taika Waititi (TV’s “The Flight of the Conchords”) as flight navigator Tom Kalmaku, Hal’s good friend and confidante; Academy Award® nominee Angela Bassett (“What’s Love Got to Do with It”) as enigmatic government scientist Amanda Waller; and Academy Award® winner Tim Robbins (“Mystic River”) as Hector’s influential father, Senator Robert Hammond.

The film is being produced by Donald De Line (“The Italian Job”) and Greg Berlanti (upcoming “Life As We Know It”). Herbert W. Gains and Andrew Haas serve as executive producers. Geoff Johns and Lucienne Papon are co-producing.

The film’s behind-the-scenes creative team is led by a number of Academy Award® winners, including director of photography Dion Beebe (“Memoirs of a Geisha”), production designer Grant Major (“The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”), and costume designer Ngila Dickson (“The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”), as well as Oscar®-nominated editor and longtime Campbell collaborator, Stuart Baird (“Gorillas in the Mist,” “Superman”). The film’s visual effects are being overseen by Oscar®-nominee Kent Houston (“The Adventures of Baron Von Munchausen,” “Casino Royale”).

The film is currently scheduled for release in 3D and 2D on June 17, 2011. “Green Lantern” will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

I'm not usually the negative type around here, but one thing really bugs me about the design.

You just know that they decided to go for a CGI costume because they didn't want a goofy looking spandex or rubber suit.

Except what they've come up with still comes off looking like rubber anyways.

Meaning they could have easily just done the suit in rubber, added the CGI glow afterwords, and had it look just the same while saving a butt load of cash in the process.

That said, they've still got 7 months to finish and polish this stuff until it's ready for the theaters.
So even in not entirely minding the effects as they are, I REALLY hope they use that time to make them better.

@MaxJaybo - I agree, i like the visuals but the CGI in gheneral could have been better done as to make the suits more 'real'.

looks cool! but the suit looks off in some shots.

take the shot where he puts the costume on in front of his friend. that's really bad cgi. (especially the mask).

but i'll wait ti'll it comes out to judge the movie.

now show us some official thor footage!! :p

I think Abin, Sinestro and especially Hammond(!) look awesome!

The GL suits look very cool; I do need to get used to the mask Hal is wearing.

After watching this trailer I'm looking more forward to it than before.

This is good. They still have a good couple of months to improve the CGI and just look at it. The pic with Carol is amazing, the suit looks really good.
Sinestro looks even greater. Strong is a visual clone!
Reynolds is Hal Jordan. And Kilowog looks alien enough!
I just love the fact that Tomar Re has the chicken chest! =p
Everything is going to be near perfect to the premier.

All in all, this is shaping up to be one of the best comicbook movie experiences ever, if not the best next summer.

Beware My Power!

I'm pretty sure they worked on the CGI since that 30 second promo because it looksuch better in this trailer. Everything looks great (although I'm still not sure about Lively regardless of how good she was in The Town) and I'm now starting to think that this will be more of a competition for Thor and Captain America than I first thought!

Anyone elsenotice Hector Hammonds yellow eyes and Sinestro crashing through some sort of yellow explosion? I cannot [frick]ing wait to see Parallax!

Agreed, Sinestro looks amazingly good. Mark Strong is one of the best actors working today IMO. He plays a good villian. It will be interesting to see him plot and plan behind the scenes in this first film and then in the second...Yellow Lantern Corp!

His dorky sidekick friend is already pissing me off. Here's hoping Sinestro's first act towards becoming yellow is blowing that douche's head right off his shoulders.

I have been waiting for this movie for quite sometime. Amped as hell to see it finally come to screen. Looks to have the perfect actors in Reynolds and Strong. But Im praying....that this isnt the finished CGI. Im almost certain it isnt finished and that they still plan on touching it up, but Id be lying if I didnt say I was a bit worried. Either way...I wont judge until I see another trailer or until I sit my azz in that seat for opening weekend!

@Stubbyswof- I thought it was just me that noticed that or got that feeling. Hell,..he almost even looks like the same dude. Is that him?! I can do without the comic relief characters. Humorous natural moments and jokes or references are fine, but I hate simple minded "comic relief"...they can keep that garbage.

Visually: it looks great. However: I just can't get past my feeling that Hal is supposed to be more responsible. I don't know how he was before he became GL, though.

Sinestro looks awesome. Perfectly cast in my opinion.I love how they done hector. its very creepy. the suit looks pretty cool I think if they had tried to make it like the comics it would look ridiculous.
