As stated in my teaser, this is a sequel to my original
GI Joe fancast. If you have not seen my previous one, check it out
here. The plot of this film will be based on the 1984 mini series called
GI Joe: the Revenge of Cobra (also known as
The Weather Dominator. I'll be adding new Joes in this cast along with a new member of Cobra. I will also be describing the look of the film and the weapons that each character uses. Here's the plot:
America is slowly rebuilding itself after the failed invasion by the terrorist organization known as Cobra. Cobra Commander, the leader of the organization and his lieutenants escaped during an assault on Cobra Island by GI Joe, costing the lives of the Joes Stalker and Cover Girl and the head of Cobra's Crimson guard, Tomax and Xamot. Having relocated to a base hidden in the Altai Mountains, Cobra plans to savage the world with a device known as the Weather Dominator. Having the ability to control weather patterns, it will ravage the capitals of the world. Cobra will rule in the remains of it with the aide of Doctor Venom's superhuman Viper soldiers. Cobra Commander has captured two members of GI Joe, Duke and Snake Eyes. The Joes launch an assault on the hidden base and are able to destroy the Weather Dominator while it has just launched. Three fragments of the device are scattered globally. One is located deep in the jungles of Central America, another is located on a deserted island in the Indonesian Archipelago, and the final located in the barren glaciers of the Arctic Circle. It’s now a race against time between the Joes and Cobra to recover the three fragments!
For the director, I chose Marc Forster. I decided that this would be a good project for him after seeing
Quantum of Solace. He'll probably become a big name in Hollywood after his adaptation of
World War Z is released.
Af for the score, I chose Trent Reznor. If you have listen to any of his work with Nine Inch Nails, you know that him doing a film score would be pretty awesome.
Now on to the design of the film. Unlike in the 2009 film, this film will have basic military technology (with the exception of Cobra Command, who has advanced weaponry supplied by Destro). The Joes' vehicles include a slightly modified version of the M113 Armored Personal Carrier and the V-22 Osprey. The Joes' uniforms are modular tactical vests fitted with webgear. The Joes' weaponry is rifles that are currently used by the United States military.
Cobra, on the other hand, has much more advanced equipment (as stated earlier). A standard Cobra trooper has a German style military helmet and a half balaclava, and has a dark blue khaki uniform with the Cobra insignia on their chest. The Viper soldiers are a special squadron of Cobra troopers developed by Doctor Venom. Viper soldiers are dressed in full body armor with Kevlar plating and wear headgear similar to motorcycle helmets. As with standard troopers, they have the Cobra insignia on their chests. The main armament of both standard and Viper soldiers are assault rifles based on the Belgian F2000. They are supplied by Destro and fire 5.56mm explosive tipped, caseless ammunition.
Anyway, here’s the cast:
GI Joe:
Aaron Eckhart as Duke: The leader of GI Joe who has served in the Gulf War and the Invasion of Iraq. He is fluent in German, French, and a variety of Southern Asian languages. His main weapon is a HK416 assault rifle fitted with a reflex sight and a AG36 grenade launcher. He keeps a Colt .45 pistol as his sidearm.
Reason for Casting: I chose Eckhart because I think he is a talented actor, especially after seeing him in
The Dark Knight. He can also play the tough military leader as seen in
Battle: Los Angeles
Ray Park as Snake Eyes: A skilled martial artist and a combatant in hand to hand combat. He is mute due to scarring around his vocal chords. His main weapon is a katana along with flash and stun grenades.
Reason for Casting: I decided to keep Ray Park as Snake Eyes since he has the right athletic ability to portray him and is a brilliant stuntman.
Emily Blunt as Scarlett: The Joe's intelligence officer who is skilled in acrobatics. ALthough she is trained in the use of various firearms, her preferred weapon is a crossbow that fires specialized bolts.
Reason for Casting: Blunt was rumored for the role of Black Window in
Iron Man 2 before Scarlett Johansson got the role. I not only casted her because of that, but she also gave a great performance in
The Adjustment Bureau.
Terry Crews as Roadblock: The Joe's hearty machine gunner who also serves as cook, wanting to be a gourmet chef before joining the army. His primary weapon is a M249 SAW machine gun, although he also uses a handheld minigun when more firepower is needed.
Reason for Casting: Crews has the right build for Roadblock and has a similar appearance to him. If you are still doubting me, go see
The Expendables.
Danny Masterson as Shipwreck: A former Navy SEAL that serves as both Gunner's mate and machinist. He is known for keeping a green McCaw parrot named Polly at the base. His main weapon is a M4 Carbine fitted with an ACOG scope and tactical flashlight. He keeps a SIG P226 pistol as his sidearm.
Reason for Casting: Although Masterson is mainly a comedic actor, I think if he plays this role seriously, then he'd be perfect as Shipwreck. Rather than wearing a sailor's cap like in the cartoon, my version of Shipwreck will wear a knit cap instead.
Josh Duhamel as Flint: The Joe's warrant officer and second-in-command of the organization. He has served in the Iraq War with Duke. His main weapon is a Remington 870 shotgun fitted with an eight shot magazine tube, heat shield, and entry light. He keeps a military issued M9 pistol as his sidearm.
Reason for Casting: Duhamel's character in the
Transformers kind of reminded me of Flint, but I also casted him after seeing his work on
Las Vegas
Evangeline Lily as Lady Jaye: The Joe's covert operations specialist who is romantically involved with Flint. Her main weapon is a MP7 submachine gun fitted with a holographic sight.
Reason for Casting: I enjoy her work on
Lost and thought she would excel in this role.
"Stone Cold" Steve Austin as Gung Ho: A motorcycle riding gunnery sergeant who is an expert in knife fighting. His main weapon is a M16A4 rifle fitted with an ACOG scope and M203 Grenade Launcher. He also keeps a M9 pistol as his sidearm.
Reason for Casting: I know that Steve Austin is a wrestler and wrestlers are usually terrible actors. But Austin has the look for Gung-Ho. Plus he was pretty cool in
The Condemned.
Kevin McKidd as Snowjob: A former conman who serves as an Arctic trooper and rifle instructor. He either uses skis or a snowmobile to get around. His main weapon is a M40 Sniper Rifle fitted with Arctic camouflage and a sound suppressor.
Reason for Casting: I casted McKidd after seeing him in
Dog Soldiers and after finding out that he voices Captain "Soap" McTavish in
Modern Warfare 2.
Barry Pepper as Beachhead: The balaclava wearing, no nonsense sergeant major and small arms armorer. He is strictly by the book and openly disapproves of Flint and Lady Jaye's relationship. He is also known for not wearing deodorant, since (according to him), scented deodorant would be a giveaway to the enemy in the warzone. His main weapon is a M4 Carbine fitted with a red dot sight, suppressor, laser aiming module, and a foregrip. He also keeps a pair of SIG P226 pistols as his sidearms.
Reason for Casting: I think Pepper is a fantastic actor. He was excellent in
The Kennedeys and
True Grit
Cobra:
Mads Mikkelsen as Cobra Commander: The mysterious and notorious head of Cobra. He never shows his face, hiding it beneath a hood. His side is a CZ-75 pistol.
Reason for Casting: The idea of using Mikkelsen as Cobra Commander occurred to me after seeing him in
Casino Royale and
Valhalla Rising.
Monica Bellucci as The Baroness: Cobra Commander's Eastern European intelligence officer who is romantically involved with Destro. Her main weapons are a pair of Skorpion machine pistols.
Reason for Casting: After seeing her in
The Matrix sequels, I thought she would make an excellent Baroness.
Robert Carlyle as Destro: A Scottish arms dealer whose main client is Cobra. He wears a silver mask forged from Beryllium steel, which originated from an ancestor of his in the English Civil War. His ancestor was caught selling arms to both sides. Since neither side wanted to execute him, they forced him to wear the mask for his crimes. His ancestor turned it into a thing of pride and it has been passed on for 20 generations.
Reason for Casting: Not only is Carlyle Scottish, but he played a brilliant Bond villain in
The World is Not Enough. He was also brilliant as Adolf Hitler in the miniseries
Hitler: The Rise of Evil
Mark Strong as Zartan: A master of disguise who can take on the physical and vocal likeness of anyone thanks to holographic technology. He is a master of several martial arts including Kali and Krav Maga. His main weapon is a compound bow with his secondary weapon being a Mk. 23 pistol fitted with and without a silencer.
Reason for Casting: I decided to cast Strong since he is excellent at playing villains such as Pinbacker in
Sunshine and Lord Blackwood in
Sherlock Holmes.
Louis Ozawa Changchien as Storm Shadow: Cobra Commander's Ninja bodyguard and assassin, who has a fued with Snake Eyes. His main weapons are a pair of katana and shurikens.
Reason for Casting: If you have ever seen
Predators, you know he would be great as Storm Shadow.
Hugo Weaving as Major Bludd: An Australian mercenary and one of Cobra Commander's lieutenants. He sports an eyepatch and mustache. His primary weapons are a custom AK-47 and a .357 Magnum Desert Eagle handgun.
Reason for Casting: Although Russell Crowe has become a popular choice for Bludd. Although he may not be physically imposing, I think Weaving can bring out the sinister side to him.
Jason Statham as Firefly: A mercenary who works for Cobra as a saboteur. He is an expert in martiial arts and demolitions. His main weapons are a pair of Steyr TMP machine pistols, along with a bandoiler of hand grenades and a pack of C4 explosives.
Reason for Casting: Although Statham may not be the best of actors, he has a really intimidating and scary voice that's perfect for Firefly. Plus he's a great martial artist.
Sullivan Stapleton as Blackout: A sniper who was rejected from joining the Joes after failing his psychological exam and that he was possibly involved with the disappearance of his sister. He joined Cobra to get revenge on the Joes. His main weapon is a CheyTac Intervention sniper rifle.
Reason for Casting: I have recently been watching Cinemax's
Strike Back: Project Dawn, where Stapleton stars as former Delta Force operator Damien Scott. After watching many episodes of the show, I decided he was my ideal Blackout. He also gave a great performance in
Animal Kingdom.
Michael Emerson as Doctor Venom: A scientist working for Cobra who developes the serum used to create the Viper soldiers.
Reason for Casting: Not only does Emerson voices Venom on
GI Joe: Renegades, he also has that very creepy presence that I want Venom to have.
