Fancast: Dark Avengers

Check out my cast for the Dark Avengers!!

What mainly inspired me to do a Dark Avengers cast was mainly pure boredom and that the concept of it interested me. I just find it baffling that the government would give Osborn not only his own espionage organization, but also his own team of Avengers composed of criminals disguised as Superheroes. Anyway, as an added bonus, I have the Dark Reign line up of the New Avengers as their "enemies". It just makes sense to me that the Dark Avengers would see the New Avengers as their enemy. And if that sounds too confusing, then just think of this as a double cast. Anyway, enjoy.

"Heroes":

Dark Avengers:

Sean Penn (Mystic River, 21 Grams) as Norman Osborn/Iron Patriot: The head of H.A.M.M.M.E.R., who leads the Dark Avengers under the moniker of Iron Patriot (an amalgam of Captain America and Iron Man). As Iron Patriot, Osborn wears a version of the Iron Man armor colored red, white, and blue. The suits features include superhuman strength, enhanced durability, flight, magnetic impact blasts, heat seeking missiles, miniaturized lasers, flamethrowers, and a communications system housed in his helmet which allowed him to interface with any U.S.-controlled satellite or computer network. Unlike other Iron Man suits, Osborn's does utilize repulser technology, and it has a weaker unibeam due to it being shaped like a star.

Reason for Casting: I decided to go with an original pick for Norman Osborn, because Jason Isaacs has become quite overused (even though he's a great pick). Anyway, Sean's a terrific actor who has the talent to play the cold and amoral Osborn and the manic and insane Goblin. Also, in his new movie "The Gangster Squad" (where he plays crime boss Mickey Cohen), he has this Norman Osborn vibe to him.

Charlize Theron (Monster, Young Adult) as Karla Sofen/Moonstone/"Mrs. Marvel": A former member of the Thunderbolts, who joins the Dark Avengers as "Mrs. Marvel", and receives her original costume. Sofen's powers are derived from a Kree gravity stone, which grants her the powers of gravity manipulation, flight, photon blasts, intangibility, light generation, minor molecular control, superhuman strength, speed, and durability. However, if she is separated from the stone, she'll die within 72 hours.

Reason for Casting: Charlize is a great actress, but it was her recent roles in Prometheus and Snow White and the Huntsman, where she played spiteful and manipulative, convinced me to cast her.

Dominic Purcell (Prison Break, House Of the Rising Sun) as Mac Gargan/Venom/"Spider-Man": The third incarnation of Venom, who is a cannabalistic psychopath under the symbioses' influence. He joins the Dark Avengers posing as "Spider-Man" after being given a formula that resets the symbiote to the size it was when it possessed Spider-Man. Gargan possesses superhuman physical attributes, which are greatly enhanced by the symbiote. The symbiotic grants him the powers of webshooting, wall crawling, limited shapeshifting, and can remain undetectable to Spiderman's "Spider-Sense".

Reason for Casting: Purcell's a decent actor, as seen on Prison Break and John Doe. He can easily play the brutal and savage side of Gargan.

Zachary Quinto (Heroes, Star Trek) as Bullseye/"Hawkeye": A psychotic assassin and archenemy of Daredevil. He joins the Dark Avengers under the name of Hawkeye. Bullseye is a expert marksman with pinpoint accuracy, and can turn any day-to-day object, such as pencils or paper clips, into lethal projectiles. His spinal column is laced with the indestructible metal alloy adamantium. As Hawkeye, he uses a bow and quiver.

Reason for Casting: I have to thank cardiakid for this pick. Quinto played a cold, creepy, scary-as-hell and psychotic serial killer named Sylar on Heroes. He fits a character like Bullseye more than Namor.

Rain (Speed Racer, Ninja Assassin) as Akihiro/Daken/"Wolverine": The psychotic son of Wolverine, who joins the Dark Avengers under his father's name and wears the tan and brown version of his father's costume. Daken has similar powers to his father's including an accelerated healing factor, enhanced senses, and retractable claws (two extend between his knuckles, and one extends from the underside of his wrist). Daken is also telepathically immune, and possesses the ability of pheromone manipulation that suppresses his scent and alters emotions and sensory perception of others (e.g. sexual attraction, psychotic rage, rational thinking).

Reason for Casting: I've decided to use a pick for Daken that is not Taylor Lautner (I'm not against using Twilight actors in fan casts, but Jesus, this kid id terrible). Anyway, while Rain may not have the right height, he has the right look, and has played hyper violent before in Ninja Assassin.

Cillian Murphy (In Time, Red Lights) as Noh Varr/Marvel Boy/"Captain Marvel": A Kree from an alternative universe who joins the Dark Avengers under the name Captain Marvel. However, he defects from the group when finds out that they are actually super villains posing as superheroes. Noh Varr has been enhanced with insect DNA, giving him enhanced reflexes, strength, speed, and stamina, making him triple-jointed, and allowing his fingernails to grow into a deadly crystalline spike. He also has access to advance Kree weaponry, such as self-replicating grenades and plasma guns.

Reason for Casting: Murphy's a terrific actor whose otherworldly looks work well with Noh Varr. And if anybody (and by anybody, I mean Mistress Kizuna) is going to complain about him being typecasted as villains, may I remind you that Noh Varr reformed and has joined the Avengers under the name Protector.

Joe Mangianello (True Blood, Magic Mike) as Ares: The Greek god of war, who is the brother of Herucles and an enemy of Thor. Ares is immortal, and possesses superhuman strength, speed, agility, and stamina. In battle, he wears Olympian battle armor, and uses a mace, a sword, and a battle axe forged from Adamantium.

Reason for Casting: I mainly casted Mangianello for his height, his low, but loud voice, and his acting skills. He's a giant at 6'5", is ripped, and is a great actor, as seen on True Blood. He'd kick ass as the God of War.

Eric Martsolf (Smallville, Days of Our Lives) as Robert Reynolds/The Sentry: A superhero with the power of "a million exploding suns", who made the world and himself forget that he existed. Due to covering up his past as a thief and addict, Robert projects an entity that is the dark side of his powers called The Void. The Sentry's powers include uperhuman strength, speed, stamina, agility, reflexes, senses and durability, energy projection and manipulation, matter manipulation, flight, telepathy, resurrection, a healing factor, and mental projection.

Reason for Casting: I have to thank DDD for suggesting this pick. Anyway, I've seen high profile actors such as Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio casted as the Sentry, but I believe that a lesser known actor should be casted for the role. His persona fits and he has the tall, buff build for the Sentry. Just give him long blond hair and he's a shoe-in.

"Enemies":

New Avengers:

Scott Porter (Friday Night Lights, Hart of Dixie) as James "Bucky" Barnes/Captain America: The former sidekick of the first Captain America, Steve Rogers, who takes up the mantle after Rogers' death. Barnes is a master of hand-to-hand combat, and possesses a cybernetic arm with superhuman strength and enhanced reaction time, and can also discharge bolts of electrical energy or an EMP wave. Barnes also uses Rogers' indestructable, vibranium alloy shield, as well as a Kevlar/Nomex blend, shock-absorbing costume. He also uses conventonial weapons such as knives grenades, and firearms (mainly a Colt 1911 handgun and a Luger P08 pistol).

Reason for Casting: Porter's a great actor who had audition for Cap. Since he didn't get to play the Steve Rogers Cap, then he should at least get the chance to play the Bucky Barnes Cap.

Chris Pine (This Means War, Ronin) as Clint Barton/Ronin: The Avenger formerly known as Hawkeye, who now leads the New Avengers as Ronin. Barton is an exceptional fencer, acrobat and a grandmaster marksman. As Ronin, he uses a katana, nunchuku that can be turned into a bō staff, and shurikens.

Reason for Casting: I've never been a fan of Jensen Ackles as Hawkeye, mainly because I don't think he can play a leader (remember, Hawkeye has not only lead the New Avengers, but also the West Coast Avengers, the Secret Avengers, and the Thunderbolts). Pine has the quick wit, the looks, and the charm to play a convincing Clint Barton.

Elijah Wood (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Wilfred) as Peter Parker/Spider-Man: A New York vigilante with spider powers, and a founding member of the New Avengers. Peter's abilities include wall-crawling, enhanced strength, and a clairvoyant "Spider-Sense". He also uses a pair of web-shooters that fires artificial webbing, which he developed from his father's research on adhesives.

Reason for Casting: Even though I loved Andrew Garfield's portrayal of Spidey, I think that Elijah would also make a convincing Spidey. He's talented and pretty versatile, and I think he would bring a dry sense of humor to the role.

Henry Simmons (NYPD Blue, Shark) as Luke Cage: A former heroin dealer who gained superpower after partaking in a prison experiment, and a founding member of the New Avengers. Cage's include indestructible skin, superhuman strength, and a healing factor. He is also an experienced Street Fighter.

Reason for Casting: You need an actor that is both a great actor and physically large for Luke. Simmons, standing at 6'4" is large enough for Cage and is a great actor, as seen on NYPD Blue and Shark.

Kristanna Loken (Bloodrayne, Painkiller Jane) as Carol Danvers/Mrs. Marvel: An Air Force officer who gained superpowers when her DNA was fused with Kree genes, and a prominent member of the Avengers. Danver's powers include superhuman strength, speed, stamina, and durability, energy projection and absorption, and flight.

Reason for Casting: I have to thank RoadDogXXIV for coming up with this pick. Loken is tall enough at 5'11", can kick some major ass, and has a deep voice. She'd make a kickass Mrs. Marvel.

Maggie Grace (Lost, Lockout) as Barbara "Bobbi" Morse/Mockingbird: A former S.H.E.I.L.D. agent and wife of Hawkeye. Morse is a Superbly trained athlete and gymnast, and is trained in various unarmed combats. She is also an expert with a use of Battle Staves.

Reason for Casting: Grace is a great actress who has the right height and look for Mockingbird, and knows her way around action. She'd also have great chemistry with Pine.

Stephen Dorff (Public Enemies, Immortals) as Logan/Wolverine: A prominent member of the X-Men, who joined the New Avengers after encountering them in the Savage Land. Logan possesses an accelerated healing factor, enhanced senses, and three claws located inbetween his knuckles. His claws and skeleton are also laced with adamantium.

Reason for Casting: I have to give credit to RoadDogXXIV for this pick. If I didn't, I would have been a complete douche bag, just like this guy. Anyway, Dorff is short enough for Wolverne at 5'7", and has the voice, personality, grittiness, and look for a much more convincing Wolverine (No offense to Hugh Jackman).

Evangeline Lily (Lost, Real Steel) as Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman: A former HYDRA agent turned S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent, and a founding member of the New Avengers. Drew's powers include superhuman strength, speed, stamina, agility, reflexes, senses, and durability, flight, pheromone generation, the ability to stock to walls through bio-electrici attraction, the ability to shoot beams of bio-electricity from her hands (referred to as Venom Blasts), and immunity to all poisons and radiation.

Reason for Casting: Lily is one of my favorite actresses who I believe can play a convincing Spider-Woman. Even though she is not British, she can always work with a dialect coach to get the accent.

Yes, this is REALLY quality cast man! Haven't had a 'Dark Avengers' Fancast around for a while too. But it's just great to see someone who's really put a lot of effort into their article cause lately the Fan-Fic's have been rather shit.

Anyway, on to the cast.

I like Sean Pean for Osborn, nice refreshing pick. You'll see my pic for him sometime soon cause I'll be bringing out my Amazing Spider-Man Sequels fan cast.

Quinto is a GREAT choice for Bullseye / Hawkeye. So is Pine as Barton. But my absolute favourite choice (which I have also seen suggested by RoadDogXXIV). Truly great choice.

The cast overall is great but those are my favourites. Can't find any that I really disagree. Great job man. Really quality.

Well, it's about [frick]in' time, brother! Been waiting for a good fancast, and here we are.

- Tough one about Charlize Theron. Why do I feel she deserves a bigger role than Moonstone? I think Tabrett Bethell could nail it. Then again, your cast!
- I don't know why people would cast Taylor Lautner as Daken. DAKEN IS ASIAN, PEOPLE! Therefore, I'm a big supporter of Rain, although I've read Jon Foo on a fancast, and that's good (he's part Asian and part Irish).
- I'm sure Kizuna would understand you casting Cillian Murphy as Noh-Varr. I think she cast him in that same role on the SHH! message boards (or it was just Captain Marvel). Great pick. I thought of Steven R. McQueen based on OptimusPrime114's cast, but the question is, how old is Noh-Varr?
- I'll have to get into Smallville one of these days, I gotta find out more about some of these actors like this Eric Martsoff.
- Shame this isn't being set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With your Justice League cast being set in the DCMU, you'd figure you do the same. But Scott Porter would rock as Bucky Barnes.
- I would rather see Chris Pine as Hawkeye. Jeremy Renner didn't do squat with his role.
- You know, I remember Elijah Wood in The Faculty and I swear he would've made a good Spider-Man based on his character and performance.
- Yeah, Henry Simmons is suitable for Luke Cage.
- I too thought of Kristanna Loken as Ms. Marvel, but DDD wasn't too sure of the look, and Mistress Kizuna "never been a fan of Loken's acting; I always found her so boring." Still, she's got juice and presence. I think she'd be great as Ms. Marvel.
- Ha-ha, there's my Wolverine choice!!! Glad you gave me props. Why is wolverinesfury a douchebag for?
- Ultimate Spider-Woman is 5'5" and is of American decent. Lilly could play that up.

Grade-A casting, bro.

PERFECTION!

MARTSOLF as SENTRY.....You used my suggestion, it
makes sense, he would be more inexpensive as a
relative newcomer (like HEMSWORTH with THOR) but he
would nail this part down, just like he nailed the
BOOSTER GOLD role on SMALLVILLE!

Yup, it don't matter what nationality plays
SPIDER-WOMAN, all that matters is if she can
perform the role!

I prefer GARY SINISE for NORMON OSBORN but come on,
this is SEAN PENN (ACADEMY AWARD WINNER) for
crying out loud!

Yup, PERFECTION!

Fan cast is really great, but let me no to agree with some choices: I think that Wolverine is quite wrong, Spider- woman can be seen Michelle Ryan and Bridget Regan, what about Jackson rathbone as Bullseye?

Others are great!

Fantastic cast!

I really enjoy the effort you put into this. I am extremely tired of half assed articles. So I am glad to see a good cast!
I like your Norman Osborn choice! He is a good actor, and could the personality down perfectly! Charlize is also a fantastic actress, and if she is willing to get in the proper shape, I am all for it. And, THANK YOU fornot using Taylor Lautner. I have no clue who decided that was a good casting choice....it is horrible! I do like many of the Twilight actors. Many have great talent, but he does not!

Great cast, man!

Otherwise GREAT cast!!
Good job.

I always felt that Moonstone and Marvel boy were a bit younger was a bit younger but I have no doubt that Theron and Murphy could pull it off but ya its like @roaddogXXIV says

Also your venom pick doesn't really feel quite right to me, when I was reading Dark Avengers I always felt there was something creepy about him that Purcell is just too big and menacing to embody

I'm not familiar with your Sentry choice but he sure looks the part so I'll have to look out for him

Henry Simmons is growing on me for Luke Cage

Stephen Dorff would be a great Wolverine! and finally someone who's short enough for the role

Evangeline Lily totally fits the the way I've always pictured spiderwoman and she's got that super fit body that can do all the weird little poses that the spider family does and still look good, and I'm sure she could get the accent down

All in all very good cast and well thought out too!

@MrMurdockk Thanks, dude!! I'm also sick of seeing shitty, half assed casts in the Fan Fic section. I'm glad you like mt picks for Osborn, Bullseye, and Barton. And I can't wait to see your Amazing Spider-Man sequel casts.

@RoadDogXXIV I kinda see Bethell as Emma Frost, but she could work as Moonstone. I haven't really seen this Jon Foo guy act, but anybody is better than Lautner. I saw that Mistress Kizuna casted Murphy as Mar-Vell. I don't know how old Noh-Varr is. I'm still sticking to Loken. The positive thing is that it's not Yvonne Stahovski for the billionth time. wolverinesfury is a douchebag because he's rude to everybody and he steals other people's picks.

@DDD Thanks, dude!! Sinise would be pretty good as Osborn. But I still prefer Penn.

@789 What do you mean that my pick for Wolverine is wrong? He practically fits Wolverine. I wanted to be original with my pick for Spider-Woman. Rathbone doesn't fit Bullseye in any way at all.

@TheOneSuperMan Thanks!!

@tweeeeenkies3 Thanks. I'm glad you like my picks for Osborn and Moonstone. And we both agree on Daken.

@IronLeprachaun and NightAvenger Thanks!!

@SAT Thank you. Sorry that you don't like my Spidey pick.

@brokentoejoe Thank you. Glad you like Simmons, Dorff, and Lily.

Thanks for the shoutout on your Bullseye pick! Quinto would perfect Bullseye in my opinion!

This is a great cast! My favorites are Penn as Osborn (I've got Gary Sinise, but Penn would be great in the role) Simmons as Cage and Elijah Wood as Spidey.

Stephen Dorff was in Public Enemies? Huh, never knew that. Cool!

Great cast, what are you doing next? (I think you said something about a Batman cast in my rebooted Batman fancast? Not sure though)

-Now, I'm not homosexual or homophobic or anything, but Henry Simmons is too handsome to play Luke Cage. He's supposed to be a raw and unromantic looking character, not some suburban pretty boy.
The rest are great.

Dark Avengers Eh? Sounds interesting…

-I just can’t see Sean Penn as Norman, I just don’t think he can do it. What about Aaron Eckhart?
- I can dig Charlize Theron as Ms.Marvel. Works for me.
- I haven’t disagreed with your Gargan choice before, no reason to start now.
-Is Quinto the CBM Official Choice for Bullseye?
-I’ve used Rain as Daken before so I say it’s A OK.
-Love to see Cillian Murphy. I think he could do it.
-I can see it. Joe does have a barbarian vibe to him.
-Eric as Sentry? Creative maybe not perfect but I could see it.
-Scott Porter works. He was up for the role in F.A. after all.
-Creative casting for Pine.
-Decent Spider-Man.
-Simmons is a very good choice for Cage.
-I like Loken as a performer And she could use the career boost.
-I’m a Maggie Grace fan so seeing her pop up here as Mockingbird is cool beans.
- I can’t see Dorrif as Wolvie, but I’m open to seeing if he can do it. Personally I am all Bernthal.
- Lily is a spicy gal, I’d like to see her take on Spider-Woman.

This is a good cast, a few I wouldn’t have gone with or thought of but that’s a good thing. This is a good cast and I must say you’ve done great work here.

Lol, ~*~HONORABLE MENTION~*~

Anyway, my one-by-one take...

- Sean Penn is boss. He'd be a kickass Norman Osborn.
- Kinda feel that Charlize is a little too big for Moonstone, but she'd own that part (seeing her as a manipulative, "villain wither her own agenda" in Prometheus).
- I guess Dominic would be an alright MacGargan/Venom.
- Hmmm, interesting choice for Zachary Quinto as Bullseye. He's definitely a pro at being charismatic yet darkly psychotic. I've always liked Will Arnett, but I wouldn't complain about this pick.
- I've never understood the Taylor Lautner as Daken thing, even factoring in that he's half-Canadian/half-Japanese. Rain is awesome and definitely knows his way around action, even if he is Korean (never get Korea, Japan and China confused with each other, lest you value your skin).
- Haha, don't worry, I won't get on your throat for this. I think Cillian's best utilized as either an everyman thrust into a situation beyond his comprehension, or as an anti-hero with noble intentions but morally grey methods, so it's just kinda tring to see him get pigeonholed into villainous roles expecting him to be Scarecrow 2.0. Noh-Varr is in the latter, and Cillain get get the character's conflicted nature across well. So props on that! :)
- Joe can kick all kinds of ass as either Ares or Hercules.
- Good Sentry pick. He seems to be the right age (a little on the older side) and looks like he can be imposing.
- If Sebastian Stan's not coming back to play Bucky (unlikely since he's been signed on for multiple movies), Scott Porter would be perfect as Bucky-Cap.
- As far as I'm concerned Jeremy Renner was perfect as Clint. But Chris Pine would be awesome as a recast pick.
- Oof, not so sure about Elijah Wood as Spidey. I like the guy too (he's awesome in Wilfred), but I kinda fear he's a bit too gentle looking for the part.
- I've never been the biggest fan for Henry Simmons as Luke Cage. He just looks too clean cut and is also a bit too old (being 42). However, I'm admittedly stuck on who I would pick. I'd have gone with Morris Chestnut, but he's apparently not tall enough.
- I've always found Kristanna boring as an actress TBH, though her voice can be a good fit for Carol Danvers.
- Maggie's an inspired choice for Mockingbird! I definitely would love to see her play tough, and she'd play off well with either Jeremy Renner and Chris Pine.
- Stephen Dorff is a pretty original choice for Logan. I can definitely accept him as a future recast choice.
- Eh, I'd prefer a British actress for Spider-Woman. Michelle Ryan's always been my favorite choice, though I've also started liking Gemma Arterton (a better role choice for her than Scarlet Witch TBH).

All in all, good job with this stuff! :)

I love it, and thanks for Sean Penn as Norman Osborn. Yes, I'm tired of seeing Jason Isaacs everywhere, and that is a great, fresh cast. And, I also love your Sentry pick. I don't think I have to detail every of your other pick, because...I just love 'em all!

Scott Porter is more of a Barry Allen to me, though, and if it ever happens, I'd prefer to see it set in the current Marvel Cinematic Universe, thus Sebastian Stan in my opinion is the one who should take up the mantle of Captain America. Also, I'd pick David Anders (also a Heroes star) for Bullseye, and save Quinto for a character like Namor. That's my personal opinion, though; overall, this is a very great cast. Well done.

this would be a kick-ass movie. the only pick I don't like is Penn as Osborn but that's simply because I hate Sean Penn. great job otherwise.
