Gatchaman is based on the 1970s Japanese TV series Science Ninja Team Gatchaman. To the US = Battle of the Planets and G-Force!

Gatchaman is set in a dark future world with environmental and technological issues. The story of Gatchaman focuses on five reluctant heroes whose remarkable genetic code makes them Earth's only hope of defeating these extra-terrestrial invaders.

Seriously I believe to avoid alienating the asian fans and also to maintain true to the source material that is if Gatchaman is the original name of the team or series.

They can't call it G-Force because Disney is releasing a movie about super hero guinea pigs called G-Force. Stupid Disney.

I suppose though, they could've called it BATTLE OF THE PLANETS! That everyone knows!!! Well maybe in a few years their do a LIVE ACTION one and will call it that or G-FORCE, ya never know!!! ; )
