Batman: Arkham Asylum Awarded a Guinness World Record for 'Most Critically Acclaimed Superhero Game Ever'
Today the highly anticipated Batman: Arkham Asylum game has been awarded a Guinness World Record for the ‘Most Critically Acclaimed Superhero Game Ever’.

Batman: Arkham Asylum has been given top scores across the board from National newspapers and specialist game reviewers. The game has broken the Guinness World Record in this category by achieving the highest average score of 91.67 from reviews around the world.*

Developed by Rocksteady Studios and based on DC Comics’ Batman license, Batman: Arkham Asylum offers players diverse gameplay that pushes the envelope for action, adventure and superhero games and exposes players to a unique, dark and atmospheric adventure taking them to the depths of Arkham Asylum.

Gaz Deaves from Guinness World Records states, “We are so pleased to be awarding Batman: Arkham Asylum a Guinness World Record. It is a fantastic new game and due to the reaction of gaming experts we believe it has a well deserved place in the Guinness World Records book.”

In Batman: Arkham Asylum, BATMAN finds himself trapped inside the confines of Gotham’s psychiatric hospital for the criminally insane, ARKHAM ASYLUM. THE JOKER has set a trap for the DARK KNIGHT and has conspired with the deranged inmates to eliminate BATMAN once and for all. Adding to the authenticity of the game are veteran animated Batman voice talents Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy, who reprise their roles as The Joker and Batman respectively.

Batman: Arkham Asylum features an original story by Paul Dini, Batman writer and five-time Emmy Award winner whose credits include Lost and Batman: The Animated Series. Gamers will move in the shadows, instill fear amongst their enemies and confront The Joker and Gotham City's most notorious villains, including HARLEY QUINN, BANE, KILLER CROC, POISON IVY and SCARECROW, who have taken over the asylum.

Batman: Arkham Asylum is available for Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PLAYSTATION 3 Computer Entertainment System. It will also be available for Games for Windows LIVE at retail outlets on September 18, 2009.

Now that is the coolest of COOL! ; )

LEEE777 - 8/28/2009, 10:44 AM
There was a guinness world record for that?
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/28/2009, 10:44 AM
TYLER @???? there is for everything mate! ; D

On a good note, this might stop companies doing rush jobs an crap and think more QUALITY an less QUANTITY!

We can only hope! ; )
LEEE777 - 8/28/2009, 10:45 AM
How far are you into it now Shaman? You diggin' it better now?

I'm about halfway through CoD: WaW on Veteran, then I've got to go back through The Darkness on hard, after that I'll be getting this game with a few trade-ins.
TheMyth - 8/28/2009, 10:46 AM
I have this game on Ps3. Thise game is BETTER on PS3...the controls...the exclusive ONLY for Ps3 Joker playability...and the extra levels/maps given to this exclusive.

Only thing about this game I didnt like how it mentioned their are this many villians on the island...and you only fight like maybe 5-6, and Killer Croc though he talks shit about how hes going to eat your bones...you dont even fight him... but totally loved the story and loved the SEQUEL ending. lol

This game was a bit short if you ask me...beat it in 2 days....would of beaten it in a day if i didnt taken breaks.
Aiiwolf - 8/28/2009, 10:47 AM
Really? [frick] yeah Batman!

And whoever thought of casting Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy as Joker and Batman again, Bravo, they are complete legends! They will always be my favourite Batman and Joker, even over Bale and Ledger!

It is a damn shame that Kevin and Mark have not gotten a cool cameo in the Batman movies yet. Maybe have them do a cameo in the third movie like the cameo Lou Ferrigno had in the Incredible Hulk
dancingmonkey08 - 8/28/2009, 10:47 AM
I think I am about half way into it. I'm looking for Killer Croc now. Its an awesome game. The Scarecrow segments are especially incredible.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/28/2009, 10:48 AM
@ Dancingmonkey08

Maybe because Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy have been doing their own side projects. Hamill did a few cameos in "Birds of PREY tv show" as the joker....and plus I heard this will be Conroy's LAST PERFORMANCE as the Batman voice-over....(hoping its not)
Aiiwolf - 8/28/2009, 10:52 AM
This is undoubtedly the best superhero game of all time. I'm at the same place you are @Tyler, and i would be farther if i didn't stop to do all the Riddler stuff.

It is short but it is AMAZINGLY BAD ASS. Hopefully they'll make a sequel that is even better. Like how Batman Begins was Awesome but Dark Knight was better.
Watchtower31 - 8/28/2009, 10:56 AM
tyler@ yeah the scarecrow parts reminded me of nightmare on elm street. lol but its a awesome game
mounted88 - 8/28/2009, 11:04 AM
Poison Ivy sounds like shes having an ORGASM when you fight her. lol
Aiiwolf - 8/28/2009, 11:10 AM
this is awesome. i still havnt got a chance to play the actual game, but the demo was great :) cant wait to get this game. now if only i could get the money:) quick, someone give me your pin number!!

woo hoo!
jallanr - 8/28/2009, 11:15 AM
So what boss' do you actually fight? That's a let down that you don't actually fight Croc.
TheMyth - 8/28/2009, 11:17 AM
I just looked it up. Victor Zsasz, Bane, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, Scarecrow, and Joker. Is that correct? There is an achievement for going into Croc's Lair and coming out alive, 'Crocodile Tears', but I guess you just try to make it out without being eaten as opposed to fighting it out with him.
TheMyth - 8/28/2009, 11:25 AM
You do fight Croc...
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/28/2009, 11:29 AM
Someone above said you didn't lol, I'm just trying to piece it together. I have a week or more before I can get it, I need info to tide me over lol.
TheMyth - 8/28/2009, 11:31 AM
Heidi Behrendt at WBIE is one of the major reasons this game is so great! She's awesome! COOL game and well-deserved kudos!!!
JerzeyHellboy - 8/28/2009, 11:34 AM
They explain, through the hidden audio tapes, why all the other villians are gone.
absolute - 8/28/2009, 11:42 AM
Myth- Actually i am enjoying it more! But i didn't get the chance to advance much. I did alot of exploring to find hidden stuff though. I'm hoping this game isn't as short as everyone says it is LOL :P

For the sequel, i said it before and i'll say it again! Tenchu control skills in a free roaming gotham, just like InFamous!!! Maybe even hiding in shadows like "Manhunt"! Would you guys like the possibility of becoming evil by having the choice to kill enemies or not :) Kinda a la Punisher. He could have to fight with a darker split personality developing in him.
Shaman - 8/28/2009, 11:48 AM
Now we just need ONE good Superman game. Maybe Rocksteady should make that too.
Tobuttica - 8/28/2009, 11:48 AM
Aiiwolf@ i dont get what you mean about how the controls on the PS3 are better then the controls on the 360 they are exactly the same. just fitted for the different controllers.
crazyish - 8/28/2009, 11:59 AM
@ aiiwolf

thats hadly a reason to say its better on PS3. it may be better on PS3 NOW, but the joker and scarecrow challenge maps will DLC for xbox 360 soon. don't ever listen to the "exclusive" content for either console, that stuff always gets released on the other console that didn't get it on launch day. its not like the game plays better on PS3 than on 360...
CorndogBurglar - 8/28/2009, 12:07 PM
Tobuttica- GOOD ONE!!! Now you're talkin :)) I mean, i enjoyed the free roaming flying in Superman Returns but goddamn those graphics and controls sucked!!! Rocksteady, get on it!!!
Shaman - 8/28/2009, 12:13 PM
Craztish, I agree, that is just a basis of Aiiwolf preffering PS3 controllers over Xbox. PS3 controllers feel dainty and fragile in my hands, and as a hardcore gamer, I can tell you they can't take punishment lol. Xbox controllers are larger and MUCH more durable. I'm 6'5 though so I think that has a lot to do with the preference.

Shaman, damn your all about some stealth action lol. I didn't like any of the Tenchu games really, I have friends who were crazy about it too. Stealthy as I get is a Rogue in WoW, or Sniping in the middle of a CoD battlefield lol. I remember the Tenchu games you were either good at them or horrible, lol, I was the latter, I found it too easy to be seen/detected, but my friends seemed to have no problem.
TheMyth - 8/28/2009, 12:18 PM
Yeah baby, awesomeness
Fartman - 8/28/2009, 12:42 PM
Just finished the game myself. For a quick play through only missed about 40 riddler points. The challenge modes are enough to keep you busy even if the game is a bit short, not to mention some of the achievements (stringing over 40 flow combat moves, gliding over 100 meters). Then you have hard mode on top of it, good bye to the "oh no the thugs are attacking!" blue lightning symbols... least it adds another degree of difficulty. Awesome game overall, good summer for superhero games thanks to this and Wolverine.

And Superman blows... ha!
RedHeadBruno - 8/28/2009, 12:48 PM
I love this game. I did beat it in 3 days but I still have all the hidden stuff to get. But it is a game I can play numerous times. Especially to just do the freeflow combat. It's pretty freaking awesome when you can take down 20 baddies and not take a hit. Makes you seem like a bad ass.
fivebees - 8/28/2009, 12:57 PM
How can you two of finished the game already???

Did you sleep lol! ; D
LEEE777 - 8/28/2009, 1:12 PM
Took me three days, it's kinda short. But I could not put that controller down. Got like 10 achievements to go...
RedHeadBruno - 8/28/2009, 1:22 PM
so this game is worth the 60 bucks??
droopy1317 - 8/28/2009, 1:23 PM
It is for me, but I am a big Batman fan. I plan on playing it atleast one more time over on hard and getting all the achievements, if your not a gamer like that you may want to stick with a rental. It is a MUST play, not a MUST own
RedHeadBruno - 8/28/2009, 1:25 PM
it should be game of the year
Marvel Rules - 8/28/2009, 1:28 PM
@ fivebees

the fighting is my only complaint. taking down a bunch of guys without getting hit makes it feel way too easy. i want to be able to do combos and, i don't know, feel like i might actually die?? other than that its an awesome game
CorndogBurglar - 8/28/2009, 1:28 PM
Myth- LOL, yes i definitely am ALL ABOUT STEALTH LOL. But not just "any" stealth. I'm not into sniper or any military games. I hate first person shooters and i get bored of straight up bash and thrash action games (although Wolverine does look interesting). In a way, Tenchu kinda screwed up my gaming enjoyment cause before playing that game, i used to love action games. But after playing Tenchu, NOTHING compared. When you fall in love with that type of game, it's very easy to get disapointed with every other game. I do LOVE me some superhero games though. So in my bubble, Batman is best in both worlds and until Arkham Asylum, i never got a bat-game that gave me all that i wanted. Now i do believe that they could adapt the sequel by making stealth optionnal. You could chose to sneek up behind enemies or be in their faces and kick them in the junk! I think you can somewhat do that in Arkham Asylum though... but like i said, i'm not that far yet :)

CorndogBurglar- I'd love to be able to block and grapple like aikido, block and counter with Kali moves or simply jump when i want to and whirlwind kick goons in the face. If they had incorporated at least an "option" where you can chose to fully control you character's moves, it would have been way better. And they could have left the option to easy-tap combo as well for the people who don't enjoy complex combo controls. When you enjoy tournament fighting games like i do, easy tap combos are cool but somewhat of a let down. On the other hand, it does create the "badass" effect ;)
Shaman - 8/28/2009, 1:30 PM
@ CorndogBurglar

I feel you kind of on the fighting, but as fivebees said, I enjoy being a bad ass. Atleast they changed it up a little with the tasers, knife fighters and plants... force you to use technique, not just button mash.
RedHeadBruno - 8/28/2009, 1:35 PM
Now that's f**kin' cool! I'd probably be done too if I wasn't OCD about getting all the tapes an trophys.Def worth the 60 bucks but I heard they made the batarang plastic and attached to a stand for the 100$ pack! That sucks.
2nd game: clayface breaks out w/ Freeze!
antz1104 - 8/28/2009, 1:51 PM
@ Aiiwolf

Well Kevin wasnt doing that much side projects so he could have appeared in the Dark Knight as a cameo but as I said hopefully he might cameo in Batman 3

But I really hope this game and the new animated movie aren't his last role as Batman, he is too good in the role and no matter how good Rino Romano & Diedrich Bader are as Batman, Conroy will always be the best
dancingmonkey08 - 8/28/2009, 1:52 PM
Of all the batman voices ever made, i think i prefer Keaton's (even though it's not a voice over from an animated series). But Romano will always be a favorite of mine as well as will Conroy.
Shaman - 8/28/2009, 2:04 PM
I beat it last night. Two days straight of playing, it was well worth it. HD video games on HD tv's are insane
LAMEtrain - 8/28/2009, 2:10 PM
i bought the collector's edition today for the ps3.the game is amazing although the gameplay reminds me of the batman begins game. the voice acting is magnificent of course. although batman is too muscular the game deserves the record. anyone knows the sales so far?
Denn1s - 8/28/2009, 2:45 PM
i bought it today, i'm loving it hope they make a sequel set in gotham, where different gangs of freaks are fighting it out, and u get to play as batman, nightwing (with his fight sticks) and robin/tim drake (with his bo staff)
cartoonpersona - 8/28/2009, 3:05 PM
And the accolades for Batman go on and on and on! I LOVE IT! HURRAY FOR BATMAN and this game kicks butt!
DDD - 8/28/2009, 3:17 PM
Why the [frick] isnt this on the wii?!!
bubastis237 - 8/28/2009, 3:55 PM
and of course you get to play as THE JOKER on ps3...
Denn1s - 8/28/2009, 4:43 PM
@ shaman

i hear ya, i've been a huge marvel vs capcom 2 fan since the day they wheeled that shit into my local arcade. and i love fighting games, simply because it takes skill to pull off combos! just tapping one button repeatedly is not fun to me. but again, i love this game!
CorndogBurglar - 8/28/2009, 5:02 PM
dennis

you said he looks to big, and i agree, but it doesn't bother me. what really bothers me is batmans face. it looks really weird compared to everyone else in the game...

they'll release downloadable content for the joker and scarecrow challenge maps for xbox 360.
CorndogBurglar - 8/28/2009, 5:04 PM
This is hands down the best Batman game ever made! I can't stop playing this. I will not even progress in the game until I solve all of the Riddlers riddles and unlock Arkham's secrets. Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy deserve some type of awards for their performances. Well done game, well acted, and the mechanics rock! The free flow fighting system is sick!
icebergslick - 8/28/2009, 5:04 PM
@ icebergslick

Just wanna let you know, once you finish the game it gives you free roam, so if you do miss any riddler riddles you can go pick them up after without any worries of thugs or not having the right equipment
RedHeadBruno - 8/28/2009, 5:22 PM
The game is great there are a few short comings but overall id give at an 9 its a tie with this an wolverine for best superhero game of all time altho wolverine gets an edge for not having any ps3 exclusive shyt that is freaking lame
darthstern - 8/28/2009, 6:20 PM
This game along with Spiderman Web of Shadows, and Incredible Hulk Ultimate destruction are hands down the best superhero games ever. I will give an honorable mention to Wolverine also, repetitive but cutting people up never gets old. The gadgets in Arkham are wicked, I wish you could start a harder difficulty with all the gadgets collected. Hoping for a sequel where you can drive the batmobile, that would be awesome ripping up the streets of the city or diving off buildings and gliding above the streets.
ASSASSIN666 - 8/28/2009, 6:30 PM
YOU MAKE A 3RD INSTALLMENT OF BATMAN MOVIE AFTER DARKNIGHT, YOU SHOULD INCLUDE A SPIN OF THIS IN IT..ITS NOW A RECORD HOLDER..
GUNSMITH - 8/28/2009, 6:50 PM
I wonder how much they paid guinness for this publicity, I mean the game is great but it's such a made up award. Not that the other awards are any more valid, but this smells of marketing to me.
thwhtGuardian - 8/28/2009, 7:32 PM
leee@ i beat it also lol i think the story of that game would make a great third film since the end of dark knight they arrested the joker, so he should already be in the Asylum. Anyone agree with me
mounted88 - 8/28/2009, 7:51 PM
That really is a great game. I got preordered it and just beat it this morning. So unfortunately as good as it is it's also incredibly short. Fun while it lasted though and that freflow combat was amazing. I could sit there and fight thugs all day. Gotta sell it now though so I can get the new Ultimate Alliance..
HeyVanity - 8/28/2009, 8:28 PM
gunsmith@ i agree with ya. They should start the third one, with induction to poison ivy while also following harley quinn becoming who she is after she is treating the joker in the asylum. Then towards the end of the movie have the joker trying to break out only after batman locks up poison ivy in the asylum. Also along the way in the asylum they can show some smaller villians in the asylum.
Photobucket
hayden panettere as harley quinn

Photobucket
amber valletta as poison ivy
Im gonna put my fan cast up on the third batman i know other people have done it but im gonna do one also.
mounted88 - 8/28/2009, 9:06 PM
@ Dancingmonkey08

I agree. He is awesome...but I hope KEvin does come back for the sequel if they do decided to continue one after this game.

@THeMyth

YOU DONT GET TO FIGHT KILLER CROC. Just because you throw a BATARANG at his collar and trying to survive doesnt mean you fought him....you cant even go near him without him spearing or drowning you....he plays mind games in the tunnels and runs at you...if you dont throw a batarang he tackles you (spears you)....THAT IS NOT FIGHTING....You fight everyone in this game even IVY...but Killer Croc is more of a survival level...you have to trap him so he doesnt eat you. lol

Makes me angry that he talksa ll that shit about getting my "SCENT" and "eventually eating my bones" but the pussy plays hide and go seek in the damn lair. [frick]ing killer croc! UAHAHA!
Aiiwolf - 8/28/2009, 9:38 PM
@ Mounted88

Amber Valletta is so damn hot...She would make a great poision Ive, but as for Harley Quinn, I would perfer Brittany Murphy over hayden.

@corndogburger

You maybe right about the map thing...but the reviews have also show that its higher ranking on ps3 than on xbox360...GAMERANKING.COM....best place to go... Anyways, I use Xbox as a shooter console....so this could also be biase statement lol and I pefer fighting games on ps3 rather than on xbox....because of the controls. And NO the controller feels weird as shit when you play Arkham asylum on 360 lol
Aiiwolf - 8/28/2009, 9:45 PM
@HeyVanity- you wanna sell . whats yer price?
shibazz - 8/28/2009, 10:56 PM
@mounted- Hayden would make a great Harley... but outta costume would just look tooo young. yer pick fer Ivy is nice son!
shibazz - 8/28/2009, 11:14 PM
now i remember that article about how MARVEL would stop creating CRAPPY games...well, they should start working on it, coz this games is off the hooooook lol cheers!
redskullrevenge - 8/29/2009, 12:30 AM

andrew caballero - 8/29/2009, 1:13 AM
Why My Dear Delusional CBM Members, it has only just BEGUN...!!!

(From Arkum Asylum Trailer)
rushx5 - 8/29/2009, 4:30 AM
Ugh...of course this game would super ultra awesome. I was kind of secretly hoping it would fail...only because I can't play it.

Piece of advice to anyone looking to buy a game console:
If you can only have one of the three, do NOT choose the Nintendo Wii. (and please forget the fact that I just rhymed. I hate rhyming.)
Phoenix9109 - 8/29/2009, 11:31 AM
Some guy came into a left 4 dead game I was hosting and started mouthing off that the Madden graphics on his wii were awesome. i called him a douch and booted him.
antz1104 - 8/29/2009, 5:29 PM
I just got this game and it is sooo bad ass. I say one of the best comic book games ever maaade!!!
SpiderGuy - 8/29/2009, 6:13 PM
im at 38% completed. Question when u finish it can u play a harder level with al ur upgrades?
SHHH - 8/29/2009, 7:58 PM
I'm not sure but I heard you can go through and get all the trophys you haven't found yet and explore the grounds after you finish. That, and if you beat it on medium you automatically get the achievement for beating it on easy. That's cool.
antz1104 - 8/29/2009, 8:21 PM
Yes! gotta get it
Fartman - 8/30/2009, 7:06 AM
Aiiwolf, lol, I never said you did fight Croc, I haven't even played the game. I asked what boss' you fight, someone above said that you did indeed fight him.
TheMyth - 8/30/2009, 10:15 PM
a friend of mine got the game he brought over his ps3 and hooked it up to my falt 50in flat screen in my living room and it looked good. But i dont like the suite but it was cool hearing Hamel and comroy. It's creepy to, it reminds me of resedent evil 4 and toom raider. dose anyone knoe is it comming out for the Wii?
Logan-X - 8/30/2009, 10:45 PM
@ SHHH

No, you can't play through on a harder difficulty with all your equipement and upgrades. You start all over again, no riddler riddles, no upgrades, no equipement. And on hard no little blue flashes to show you an attack is coming, gotta counter on your own. Fun times!
RedHeadBruno - 8/30/2009, 11:27 PM
No! No Poisen Ivy in the movies! No Mr. Freeze, none of that! We need to keep the most realistic villans for the movies. Nolan said he wouldn't even bring Penguin in because it was to far fetched and I say thank God!
RedHeadBruno - 8/31/2009, 12:21 AM
Alright, i just finished Bane and right now, i don't see this game getting better than it already is. IT IS STELLAR but... yes there is a "but", the "grounds" get old quick and the little amount of "free-roaming" it gives you is very limited. When i say "free-roaming", i don't concider BAA "free-Roaming". InFamous was free-roaming. Free-roaming as in city-wide.

The equipments are very cool but you should have had them from the beginning. "Upgrades" could be offered to them as you progress but you should have all the tools from the get-go. I still prefer Tenchu's controls and skills since they are quicker and smoother. They give you the feeling of being much more in control than in BAA. But i have to say that i enjoy the fighting controls better in BAA than Tenchu. It comes in handy when 20 guys jump you, all while fighting Bane. I don't like the exploding gel. I would rather have had explosive batarangs that could detonate by remote control. And the batarangs could stick in everything instead of bouncing off everywhere. That would have made it more ninja-like but then again, you wouldn't be able to throw them at villains without killing them. But i loved Tenchu's sticky bombs LOL :P And i really don't like NOT being able to grapple everywhere you want. There's just no reason for it since when you fall in a hole, you grapple out EVERYTIME.

So is this game the best batman game ever made? DAMN RIGHT!!! Is this game the best "adaptation" video game of a comic book superhero? RIGHT AGAIN (until MUA2's out to compare)!!! BUT it is not the best "superhero" game ever made IMO, InFamous wins it AND wins also the best game of the year title as well. I say Batman Arkham Asylum has a 4/5, InFamous has a 4.5/5 but Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven still is the reigning champion with 5/5 for me, as the best game ever made.

Of course it's all a matter of preferences, to each's own :)
Shaman - 8/31/2009, 6:43 AM
top bats game try it on hard and your fingers will bleed.
the hint of a part 2 is promising. two face and crow in the city lose onthe juice. loved busting riddler, coming face to clayface, and loved the creeper reference (you dont know jack)
C4 - 9/3/2009, 9:41 AM
Did anyone else see the penguin's top hat and umbrellas in one of the buildings? I just beat the game, damn that was awesome... I thought that you would just go through the place and just fight his villains and be done with them, but everythin fits together so well in that game!

Now I see why some people think that this should be the third film, which i agree with
