FEATURE: The Top 15 Comic Book Moments of 2012
2012 WAS AWESOME! Some of the coolest comic books, movies, and TV shows of all time came out this year. SuperHeroStuff.com is here to give you our top 15 most important moments of 2012. Take a gander and let us know what you think!
15. Valiant Relaunch
This has been a year of rejuvenation for comic companies and we loved seeing titles like X-O Manowar, Shadowman, and Bloodshot get a second wind!
14. Grant Morrison Leaves Comics
It came as a shock when comic book legend Grant Morrison announced he was leaving DC comics and straying away from superhero comics for the foreseeable future. We hope he'll return to the industry soon, but until then we're enjoying his non-super adventures just the same.
13. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1
12. Before Watchmen
Love it or hate it for whatever reason, Before Watchmen was definitely a huge event for 2012. It's a bummer that the series isn't constructed or even approved by Moore, but with a book as amazing as Watchmen it is exciting to get to see the characters in their own stories.
11. Arrow TV Show
This series caught us really off guard this year. All fears of a whiny teen drama were replaced with pure nerd joy when we watched action packed pilot episode.
10. Joe Kubert R.I.P.
Comic icon Joe Kubert, creator of Sgt. Rock, passed away this year at age 85. His giant footprint on the comic book industry will never be forgotten.
9. The Underwater Welder
Our favorite indie graphic novel this year!
8. Disney Buys Star Wars; Announces Sequels
The fanboys inside of us are shaking with rage or excitement at the idea of there being three more Star Wars movies, we're still not sure which one!
7. Marvel NOW!
While we were hesitant that this was going to be a half-baked response to the New 52, Marvel has done some really awesome stuff with its partial relaunch.
6. The Amazing Spider-Man
The relaunch did a great job separating itself from the original Sam Raimi trilogy and making the content feel fresh. We're looking forward to seeing what Webb does with the next installment of the franchise.
5. The Manhattan Projects
Holy crap, Hickman did it again. If you haven't picked up this book yet, I highly recommend you get caught up.
4. Avengers vs X-Men
Hands down the biggest comic book event of the year, Marvel pitted it's biggest heroes against one another with tragic consequences.
3. The Punisher: Dirty Laundry
Thomas Jane made The Punisher relevant again with these graphic short movie. Fingers crossed this leads to another Punisher film.
2. The Avengers
After years of buildup and teasers, Joss Whedon's Avengers was released and it was everything we hoped for.
1. The Dark Knight Rises
The grand finale to Nolan's Batman trilogy was hands down our favorite superhero movie of the year.
