FEATURE: The Top 15 Comic Book Moments of 2012

FEATURE: The Top 15 Comic Book Moments of 2012

2012 WAS AWESOME! Some of the coolest comic books, movies, and TV shows of all time came out this year. SuperHeroStuff.com is here to give you our top 15 most important moments of 2012. Take a gander and let us know what you think!

15. Valiant Relaunch

This has been a year of rejuvenation for comic companies and we loved seeing titles like X-O Manowar, Shadowman, and Bloodshot get a second wind!

14. Grant Morrison Leaves Comics

It came as a shock when comic book legend Grant Morrison announced he was leaving DC comics and straying away from superhero comics for the foreseeable future. We hope he'll return to the industry soon, but until then we're enjoying his non-super adventures just the same.

13. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1

12. Before Watchmen

Love it or hate it for whatever reason, Before Watchmen was definitely a huge event for 2012. It's a bummer that the series isn't constructed or even approved by Moore, but with a book as amazing as Watchmen it is exciting to get to see the characters in their own stories.

11. Arrow TV Show

This series caught us really off guard this year. All fears of a whiny teen drama were replaced with pure nerd joy when we watched action packed pilot episode.

10. Joe Kubert R.I.P.

Comic icon Joe Kubert, creator of Sgt. Rock, passed away this year at age 85. His giant footprint on the comic book industry will never be forgotten.

9. The Underwater Welder

Our favorite indie graphic novel this year!

8. Disney Buys Star Wars; Announces Sequels

The fanboys inside of us are shaking with rage or excitement at the idea of there being three more Star Wars movies, we're still not sure which one!

7. Marvel NOW!

While we were hesitant that this was going to be a half-baked response to the New 52, Marvel has done some really awesome stuff with its partial relaunch.

6. The Amazing Spider-Man

The relaunch did a great job separating itself from the original Sam Raimi trilogy and making the content feel fresh. We're looking forward to seeing what Webb does with the next installment of the franchise.

5. The Manhattan Projects

Holy crap, Hickman did it again. If you haven't picked up this book yet, I highly recommend you get caught up.

4. Avengers vs X-Men

Hands down the biggest comic book event of the year, Marvel pitted it's biggest heroes against one another with tragic consequences.

3. The Punisher: Dirty Laundry

Thomas Jane made The Punisher relevant again with these graphic short movie. Fingers crossed this leads to another Punisher film.

2. The Avengers

After years of buildup and teasers, Joss Whedon's Avengers was released and it was everything we hoped for.

1. The Dark Knight Rises

The grand finale to Nolan's Batman trilogy was hands down our favorite superhero movie of the year.

Thanks to everyone involved in creating comic books for keeping us entertained and making 2012 one of the best years ever. We're look forward to seeing what you do in 2013!

Neither do I, Intruder. It's like they saw the movie TDKR could have been, not the one that it turned out to be.

I'm sick hearing about Moore and how he hasn't gave his permission. He doesn't have to. Do marvel everytime they write a new x men story ask Stan Lee or do DC ask Bob Kane estate when they want to update Batman no. Alan Moore received payment for the deal he accepted at the time it was his own fricking fault he didn't think watchmen was going to be the success it was. Alan Moore is just pissed off do you honestly think he wouldn't accept the money DC are getting for movie deals etc of course he would and thats whats pissing him off not artistic licence. Ps rant over lol

Ugh...come on guys, this isn't 2008. The Dark Knight Rises didn't change the landscape of film or direction of comic book films.

Avengers did.

Sorry, live action Avengers has to be number 1 of the year. TDKR not lower than 2, but not ahead of The Avengers. Yes, I am a "Marvelite" but c'mon, it is the 3rd highest grossing movie of all time. A comic book movie taking the world by storm and setting and shattering all sorts of records and it is not the top story? Really?

Here was waiting for the whole moments that happened in comics this year, but this is more a listed recap of what happened. Not even a mention of Death in the Family (Yes, I realise it's not over yet but it started this year) or the Venom/Scarlet Spider comic. Yelp, nope…
How bout for the next article, we make it 'top 15 moments in Comic Book Movies of 2012' and this time, we'll try to stay colouring between the lines?

Wow, that sounded a little mean in my head. I apologise if it did.

meh.. dredd should have been mentioned. and we all know which one really was the comic book movie of the year, even if some of the nolanite ass kissers running this site are still in denial.
Bandido
Bandido - 12/18/2012, 11:18 AM
AvX was a shit event IMO...i love the aftermath of it especially on titles
such as All new xmen but i definitely dont consider it one of the best comic book moments of 2012
dollstix
dollstix - 12/18/2012, 11:22 AM
Dredd should have been there without a doubt. Did everything it was meant to do. As for TDKR being number one, whilst I enjoyed it I found it to be a really sloppy film and would have put Avengers ahead of it.
I know opinions by nature are subjective but as a fully fledged Dreddite, I am still in denial over the lack of box office :(
Oh....Merry Christmas to everyone by the way :)

Totally agree, The grand finale to Nolan's Batman trilogy was hands down MY favorite superhero movie of the year.
TDKR is the best of 2012 followed by Argo for me.
Tevii
Tevii - 12/18/2012, 11:27 AM
The only reason The Dark Knight Rises should even be on this list is because we are finally done with that overrated series. (The Dark Knight Returns part 1 is superior in every way)

Avengers blew TDKR away (you know, because the title characters ACTUALLY defeated the bad guys unlike TDKR).

And the Star Wars announcement is probably the most shocking bit of news.

Avengers should have been first, just sayin.
soberchimera
soberchimera - 12/18/2012, 11:35 AM
The Amazing Spider-Man shouldn't be so high on the list, the first half of the film is a carbon copy of the first Raimi film and then they turned The Lizard into Killer Croc.

batfan175 - 12/18/2012, 11:40 AM
@Intruder: maybe most of the "flaws" that ruined the movie for you guys are just nitpicks to other people and they still can enjoy the movie Maybe peopleare too negative on Chris Nolan on this particular forum?

@batfan175 - Nitpicks??? The MAIN CHARACTER of Batman didnt even defeat the bad guys. Catwoman defeated Bane, an accident defeated Talia and the bomb detonated.

The WORLDS GREATEST DETECTIVE didnt figure out who Talia was.

An OCD Bruce Wayne didnt really care that he was retired.

THESE are NOT nitpicks. This just isnt Batman.

A nitpick is this one-People locked in the swers for that long obviously all had their shaving kits with them

TDKR is just a POOR, POOR rip off of The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller. Replace the Leader of the Mutans with Bane and boom.

And as for the Nolan comment..."Maybe peopleare too negative on Chris Nolan on this particular forum?" Ive never seen another site with more Nolan sycophants.
Niuhll
Niuhll - 12/18/2012, 12:09 PM
I enjoy all of the Dark Knight trilogy, they're not the Batman i know from the comics, but it's a Batman i can enjoy.
asherman93
asherman93 - 12/18/2012, 12:52 PM
@Tevii

Huh, I figure Batman DID defeat Bane when he damaged the mask. Bane only got killed after the mask was restored and he was caught off-guard. Not to mention, that the accident happened after Bats re-directed the missiles into Talia's truck (and I wouldn't be surprised if some shrapnel broke through.

In-universe, what reason would he? Ra's never told Bruce about his daughter, Bruce himself was out of the game for eight years, and up until Bane's appearance, he had no reason to believe the League of Shadows was still alive after blowing up their base and Ra's death in Begins.

There was actually some understandable reasoning as to why Bruce was retired: no major Joker-scale criminals or organized crime in Gotham for eight years, Rachel was dead and he felt so was his shot at a life beyond Batman, he took the fall for Dent's murders, etc.

Then again, my memory isn't the greatest, so remind me if I'm off.

Calling TDKR OUR favorite comic movie of the year is certainly debatable. Points for it being the finale of a really good series. But I say it loses points for lower box office to the Avengers and for the large amount of plot holes and stupid ending

avengers for me. TDKR wasn't even discussed as much as avengers was!!!
