Amazon has listed The Guardians of the Galaxy by Abnett and Lanning: The Complete Collection Volume 1 a 296-page whopper. The trade paperback is set for release August 5th just in time for the Guardians live action debut on the first. The TPB is currently set at $24.77 and is available for preorder.

This May also sees the release of the hardcover for The Annihilation Omnibus.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand - with the galaxy’s fate in the balance. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is presented by Marvel Studios and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gilian, Djimon Hounsou with John C. Reilly, Glenn Close as Commander Rael and Benicio del Toro as The Collector. Distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, the film opens August 1, 2014.

Perfect way to introduce yourself to the Guardians. As much as I love Bendis' work, particularly on Ultimate Spider-Man, his run on Guardians of the Galaxy hasn't really impressed me beyond the .1 issue.

This is great for people who want to know more about the modern GOTG. Especially since most of the TPB go for outrageous prices.

Though you can get the whole DnA collection digitally on Marvel.com now.

Highly recommend. About 1000x better than what Bendis has done. DnA's run is bursting with imagination. Bendis' run is bursting with conversation like all his crap.

sikwon - What baffles me more when fanboys complain about the Marvel movies being "too jokey!" is this: Where the hell were they for IRON MAN and IM2 and INCREDIBLE HULK and THOR And CAPTAIN AMERICA and absolutely friggin THE AVENGERS especially?

Those same nerds whining about THOR 2 ad IM3 having too much comedy were the same chumps who laughed like hyenas when Hulk slammed Loki.

It's just typical nerd revisionism.

Might pick this up since as much as I'm looking forward to this movie, being an old timer has me instinctively seeing Starhawk, Charlie 27 and all of Valentino's run from back then.

So...gonna have to get this to flush that shit out of my head.

Excellent series of books, but I'd recommend reading annihilation and conquest first, as they provide some important back story.
