MAN OF STEEL: Might The Mystery of "Jenny Olsen" Finally Be Solved?

Despite the many "no comments" regarding who Rebecca Buller is playing in Man of Steel, a recently released image really may be worth a thousand words (or at least one solid confirmation). Hit the jump to see for yourselves!

So, there's been some hot debate over the appearance (or lack thereof) of iconic Superman mainstay, Jimmy Olsen, in the soon to be released Man of Steel. At first, a few seemed a bit dismayed he wouldn't be showing up at all. Then came the rumor that Jimmy would be the subject of some of gender-bending and actually appear as Jenny Olsen, played by actress Rebecca Buller.

To add fuel to the fire, writer David S. Goyer refused to comment one way or the other on the subject when asked, leading many to take this as his silence meaning consent. Recently, a crop of MoS images appeared in high quality. Luckily, one of them features Laurence Fishburne's Perry White and one Rebecca Buller's mystery character on the streets of Metropolis. More importantly, it also features said characters ID badge (which is a lot more visible in the fully enlarged image). The original image is below, but here's a close up:

So guys, who exactly is Jenny Jarwich? (EDIT: it actually appears to be Jenny Jurwich). Apparently, she's Perry White's assistant and, for now, that's all there is to it. In the meantime, here's the url to the original image in all it's glory.

I thought a children's book confirmed her to be Jenny Olsen....

However I do hope Jimmy shows up in a sequel because I would like to see a modern interpretation of him.

I'll have to take a look for that, but apparently the ID badge worn by Jenny here doesn't seem to bear that out. And you and me both on seeing Jimmy showing up at the Planet. I suspect maybe with the sequel having a Clark that's firmly entrenched at The Daily Planet, we'll that environment open up a bit more with room for Jimmy.

Jimmy needs to be in this franchise and actually play the role of Clark's best and only friend. It is an integral part of the comics.

@Maryboo

I agree. And even though I feel a good adaptation doesn't necessarily have to slavishly follow the comics and include all the characters therein, Jimmy makes for great interplay with Clark and is definitely good for that line of character development.

For a modern Jimmy, I'd get rid of the father-son/Batman-Robin dynamic that they have in the comics, and just show Jimmy as Clark's bro.

As in having a bromance with Clark.

Jenny Olsen would've sucked...

...in the bad way :p

Whew, well hopefully.

@Batmaniac Okay, not fleshed out, but it should be there. Jimmy is Superman's best pal after all.

When it was said that she was Jenny Olsen it was also said that she'd be Jimmy's sister

Was Rick Jones in the Incredible Hulk? Also. Bucky wasn't a kid and neither was Robin. Maybe it's a trend.

I think the name on the ID badge is "Jurwich," not "Jarwich."

Not every comic book character needs to appear in every cbm. I don't see anyone complaining about not seeing the batman of zur-en-arrh in any batman movies. Jimmy isn't in this movie. Okay.

I think she dies. I'm actually relieved that she's not Jenny Olsen. Maybe they'll include Jimmy Olsen in the sequel.

@Batmaniac, actually, the "she's Jimmy's sister" originated on (I believe) IMDb and a considerable time after the initial gender-bending rumor. Still, it was a nice idea in terms of a middle ground.

@AlibiBreakfast

Hmm, you might be right about that. I can't get the image to zoom anymore without losing more detail quality. I'd like to know for certain so I can edit it as such, but regardless of the vowel, it doesn't add up to Olsen. Oh, Jimmy. Where art thou?

"Not every comic book character needs to appear in every cbm. I don't see anyone complaining about not seeing the batman of zur-en-arrh in any batman movies. Jimmy isn't in this movie. Okay."

I would PAY for that. It'd need to be in 3D, complete with vibrating seats, smell-o-vision and the ushers handing out mushrooms to the audience in order for the full effect to work. It's really the only way to sell the modern movie adaptation twist that Batman hasn't traveled to planet Zur En Arrh (which would look awesome), but is really just losing his mind in some rancid, garbage encrusted Gotham alley.

I could have cared less if it was a female interpretation of Jimmy or an all new character. Similar to Perry being African American and Lois being a red head. Superman is the main character. All that matters in this movie is Superman/ Clark, Ma and Pa Kent, Jor-El and Zod and Lois (Obv who cares about the hair color imo) for the main characters... Ive been satisfied with all the changes so far and Im not gonna start complaining yet! This will be the best CBM to date IMO and best film of 2013! Aslong as they don't make any changes like say Dr, Emil Hamilton claiming to be Brainiac (Yes an Iron Man 3 slam ;P)

Looks like someone else on the IMDb MoS Board caught it too:

And yet, yeah, the official guide lists it as Olsen. Either McGee really is on to something, or something changed at some point one way or the other between the production of this book and the film. Unless they consulted IMDb for the text (now that would be ironic and damn funny).

But... what a bout Jimmy? Exist in this universe or he's with Luthor in the limbo?

@lucio7lopez

Given that Zack Snyder has acknowledged Lex Luthor being out there an interview, he's not really in any kind of limbo. Jimmy on the other hand....
