Check out this image of 'Desaad' as he appears in the animated feature, Justice League: War, out next year. The plot of the film is based off of the first volume of Geoff Johns and Jim Lee's Justice League New 52 series. The film features Jason O'Mara as Batman, Alan Tudyk as Superman, Steve Blum as Darkseid, Christopher Gorham as The Flash and much, much more.

Desaad will be voiced by Bruce Thomas, who isn't new to the world of DC Comics. He portrayed 'Batman' in a small cameo in the short-lived television series, Birds Of Prey as well as in General Motors' OnStar commercials.

This guy looks like Emperor Palpatine in his teens, but that's still a pretty cool design. Don't recall him being in Justice League: Origins, but it's a reasonable addition.

Looks awesome! All of the character redesigns have been spot on so far. So pumped for this!

Yeah, but you can't tell me THIS new design doesn't look a hell of a lot like the Emperor:

Yeesh!
What an unfortunate looking brow!

Desaad predates Star Wars (the first one... It's not really called A New Hope) by about 6 years.

Yeah and the emperor in The Return of the Jedi predates this redesign by about 30 years.

I still wish they wouldn't have replaced Aquaman with Shazam.

Desaad was before the Emperor. They always look similar, but then again so would any ancient-looking guy in a hood.

Replacing Aquaman with Shazam kinda sucks. i love Shazam, but he seems redundant in a movie with Superman.

But since Aquaman is already getting his own animated movie, maybe they saw this as an opportunity to build up Shazam now too. Spark more interest in the character at WB and maybe get a film or at least his own animated movie

@Nomis Oh, Humperdink does.

Just pointing out a fact.
Just like Monkeyballs did.

I personally don't care how he looks, because I don't care about the character.

'33 years if you count the Emperor's appearance in Empire.'

Yeah I remember that vague hologram.
I guess we could count it, sure why not?

@Nomis

I didn't know that a woman played the Emperor in Strikes Back, but I do remember just being confused about the upper part of that face in the hologram.

It looked like he had bulbous eyes!
I found it kind of creepy.

The Return came out and he just turned out to be a creepy old man with lightning powers.

Will they ever bring back Darkseid's bowl-cut?
That's the question I'm waiting to be answered.

@monkeyballs

My father made me do the same thing.
It's why I'm a sociopath.

Desaad was based on the historical Marquis De Sade, who was famous sexual deviant.

When you think of the word "sadism" it's because of him.

Actually @monkeyballs your wrong. Ian Mcdiarmid played the emperor in the original Trilogy also! Long with C3PO, R2D2, ChewBacca, and Yoda all are the same actors!

Is Captain Marvel now referred to as Shazam or something? I continually see people referring to him as Shazam. I heard the comic book title was changed, but didn't realize his name was.

So where are Aquaman and Martian Manhunter? So you say they aren't in it? Oh really... Yeah so

[frick] this movie.

This is about Justice League, not Star Wars. I cannot wait for this animated movie to be released. It will keep me from going crazy between the releases of Thor and Captain America.

BTW Monkeyballs, a younger Ian McDarmid played the emperor in Return of the Jedi. His first appearance was not episode 1.

And New Gods did inspire Star Wars.

I wonder how they are going to make Shazam work. When he greets someone and they ask his name, does he say "Hi I'm Shazam!" and then turn into Billy Batson?

The answer to that question is long and complicated. Short answer: he's just called Shazam now in the Ultimate DCU.

I'm just thrilled to see them using Kirby characters, I hope there are a lot of them!

It's way past time the Kirby characters were given some real love!
