STAR WARS Land Is Coming To Disney's Hollywood Studios In Orlando

Star Wars is coming to Walt Disney World in Orlando and it's much bigger than Star Wars Weekends. Are you ready for the park to have Star Wars Land? Read more after the jump...

Disney's Hollywood Studios in Orlando is reportedly expanding to include a much larger section for their $4 billion transaction late last year. Ladies, gentlemen and children... Star Wars Land is on the horizon!

According to Theme Park Insider, plans are in the works for a giant Star Wars section in the amusement park.

“Multiple sources have told me the long-awaited dream of theme park geeks everywhere is actually happening,” Theme Park Insider's Robert Niles writes. “Disney’s moving ahead with both Cars Land and Star Wars Land at the Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World.”

But where would Star Wars Land go? Niles' sources told him the following.

"The logical places for that expansion would be on either side of the existing Star Tours ride. From what I've heard, it appears that the expansion would take out the area between Star Tours and the auto stunt show stadium, including the Muppet theater and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids play area. But I've also heard of consideration of going in the opposite direction, which would place the new land on the site of the Backlot Express restaurant and Indiana Jones stunt show theater. Given that the Indy theater's used for several other events throughout the year, and that both the Muppets and Honey I Shrunk the Kids attractions long ago passed the height of their popularity, I'm hearing more forceful arguments for the first option.

Finally, Niles write, "This appears to be a five-year project, putting completion in 2018, though Disney could choose to throw money at it and accelerate it by a year."

It doesn't stop there. To go along with this Star Wars Land report TheForce.net says, per a Disney Cast Member who also confirmed Niles' report, there might be a Mos Eisley Cantina restaurant at Hollywood Studios.

“Disney is discussing building a Cantina-themed restaurant in the new Hollywood Studios Star Wars area. Last April, the blog Disney and More reported that a restaurant modeled after Chalmun’s Cantina in Mos Eisley was being considered for Disneyland Paris. It makes sense to bring a major renovation like a Cantina restaurant to multiple locations, in the same way that Star Tours: The Adventures Continue opened at several Disney parks around the world in 2011.”

Is it 2018 yet? Because The Daily SuperHero is ready to buy tickets to Star Wars Land right now.

Went to DisneyWorld a couple of years ago and when the Lucasfilm buy-out went through the fiancee and I went to google and started throwing ideas regarding Star Wars expansion.

From what we saw and remembered...the part of the park where "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" and that whole San Fransisco cityscape section was a damn ghost town. Also...there is an expansive parking lot section over there too.

The Indiana Jones show isn't going anywhere (though let me tell you that I had to snicker when one of the guys that "Indiana" was fighting around the airplane they rolled out to recreate that fight scene was a black guy...last I heard the Nazis weren't found of off-whites) because Disney didn't just buy Star Wars...Indiana was a part of the package too.

Also...there are light saber stations around the park(s) in multiple locations...just have to look. Almost made me a couple of lightsaber Tonfas.

Now to Disneyland (which I went to last September)...the only logical place to put a Star Wars land section would be around Tomorrowland where they already have the Jedi academy shows. They could take out those horrible cars to drive around in or the old carousel of Progress building (which by the way houses a "Hall of Iron" Iron Man exhibit for those who want to see the suits), Captain Eo (but I doubt that will happen since they just spent money revamping it and that MJ is dead), and the people mover station and tracks BUT space mountain is right in the middle of all that too which unless they convert it into a Death Star trench run roller coaster...it ain't happening.

Now as far as Marvel Land park...I think Universal Studios has the theme park rights to Marvel...so...as long as that contract is in place, Disney will just have to enjoy making money off of their competitors.

I was just there in October but hopefully I'll make it back around the time this is built! I will miss the Muppet 3D movie but if that means I can eat a burger and drink a beer in the Cantina I would call it a fair trade...and I do belive that the marvel rights expire for Universal in the next 2 years or so. I would love to see a Marvel New York type set up in a Disney park, I have a feeling something like that is in the works or not too far down the road.

All sound like a great idea and I agree that area back where the Muppet theater is can go without too much fuss. Bring it!

@mrHJK, Disney can't do a Marvel land. Universal's Islands of Adventure in Orlando has the Marvel theme park already. They had it as part of the park opening in 1999 I believe it was. I don't know the parameters of the contract with Disney, maybe Universal has to share profits or maybe there's an exclusion but Marvel land is already built.

It's pretty cool too. Has a nice arcade, a fun Spider-man ride and a couple other things. One year for Halloween Horror Nights they had Carnage take over and they brought in some of the darker characters of Marvel.

This will be awesome. I took my family to Disney during a Star Wars weekend and it made the vacation for me. All they need is to have Stormtroops patrolling the area and I will be in heaven.

Sad to see the Muppet area go, the there is not much there anyway. My kids love the Muppets but the area was not worth the time.

Disney is looking into removing the Autopia and Submarine rides in Disneyland to free up the space for expanding Tomorrowland with Marvel and/or Star Wars themed attractions.

I literally just arrived at Disney World an hour ago ;-)

Cool news, but awfully similar to fanboy wishful thinking ideas I've read for years. Let's wait for the official word.

To follow up on JustinCJWiggins, yes there are a couple of build-your-own toy plastic lightsaber locations at Disney. Would be great if there were the ability to create more realistic, display-quality sabers.

@GhostZero

I'm going from memory here and like I said before that this is from a few years ago now (StarkRaving could possibly confirm this list), but the lightsaber stations are at least at:

Magic Kingdom-The giftshop right next to Experiment 626 on the way to the Astro-Orbitor tower
Epcot-Mouse Gears shop on the left side of the park between Spaceship Earth and the Pavilion of the World (spent over a damned hour in that shop)
Hollywood Studios-Mos Eisley themed gift shop outside of Star Tours (to the right of the Endor bunker and the AT-AT)
