Masters of the Universe Has A Screenwriter

In fact, it has two. Hit the jump to learn more.

Heat Vision is reporting that Mike Finch and Alex Litvak are going to write Masters of the Universe for Columbia. They wrote the screenplay for the upcoming Predators movie coming out in July. The duo has attempted to balance a treatment that would convince the studio it was cinematic and keep the Mattel, who has final story approval, satisfied that its characters were being portrayed appropriately.

This is the first big move since Columbia Pictures picked up the property late last year. Mattel and Warner Brothers parted ways after the sides couldn't agree on a creative vision. While at Warners, Masters went through several writers and in latter stages had John Stevenson, who co-helmed Kung Fu Panda, attached to direct.

Well the script seemed AWESOME until they decided to tweek Adam's character into a human from earth going to eternia. The earlier script had Adam being Randor's son as it SHOULD be. So i can't wait to see what they come up with. I'm just glad we're still getting news of it! I wanna see this DONE! But for the love of god all mighty, KEEP WORTHINGTON THE [frick] AWAY FROM THIS!!!

Being the first one was a disaster, I am okay with a remake of this and would like to see it done well. Guess we will start seeing some fan casts on this.

The search for a muscular blonde actor will be the challenge once again. If this does happen, hopefully we don't see any of the sissy boys we did for the Cap casting.

Yes...and please...no Sam Worthington! He isn't near big enough anyway and wouldn't look good as a blonde.

Holy cow did I think that the first one was epic. If they do this one as good as Avatar then seeing He-Man riding atop the war tiger will look so sickkk!

Alan Rictchson might make a good He Man, though he is still a relatively inexperienced actor. Haven't seen Blue Mountain State, but he was decent enough in Smallville. He definitely fits the look.

Hellyeah!!! Watchin the cartoon right now, would love to see this. I thought the first one was cool, well it was alright for what it was. I loved the look of Skeletor. I say cast Gerard Butler as He-Man, he could bulk up and Bill Nighy as Skeletor.
Shaman
Shaman - 4/12/2010, 11:09 AM
ATOMbomb- Since He-Man will be young, Butler's a bit over the hill for the role. Butler would be an AWESOME Randor though or even Man At Arms. But for He-Man, i say Daniel Cudmore. He has the looks, the build, the voice and is tall enough. He was in the running for Conan, i say he has what it takes to be He-Man. Plus he wouldn't look that aweful with a blonde mullet. He'd need a tan though. Bill Nighy for Skeletor is a total given!!! :))

@ shaman

aw c'mon, cudmore??? surely you jest! that guy is awful!!! There's a reason he only had 3 total lines spread between 2 movies in X2 and X3, lol.

have you seen in something i havent??
Ranger14
Ranger14 - 4/12/2010, 11:19 AM
I like Daniel Cudmore for the part , except I am not sure how well he can pull off the blonde look. His coloring doesn't fit blonde hair and I can't find any photos with him as a blonde, which typically means there is a reason he hasn't been dyed blonde yet. That is my main reservation with him as He Man.

could be good, and have great battle scene if done right. they need to focus on the stroy and plot if they want it to work, and that goes for any movie thats done.

Hmmmmmm...

Things that we don't wanna see in the He-Man live action movie:

1) Butt-humping grapples (I.E. Like Beast Man grappling He-Man-from behind)

2) He-Man jumping off of Battle Cat and landing almost perfectly straddling the camera (I.E. He-Man butt shot.)

Do we want to see this on Tela? YES. Do we wanna see this with He-Man? NO!

He-man is basically kirby's new gods. Its a new gods movie people come, with some dark and kooky doc strange mixed in. How is that not the most awesomest thing ever.
CARLOS
CARLOS - 4/12/2010, 12:44 PM
If they really wanted to this movie a kick ass they can
cause the technology is there examples...
1.battle cat... vicious, wild and realistic like the black cat from Avatar
2.the villans and sceneries, both like the Lord of the rigns (just an example)
things not to do.
1.Adam not to be gay like
2.skeletor not to be computer animated.
3.this one is a big one(please..Do not make it in the future meaning.. Buildings, New york, etc.. like the last one.

I don't know about this one, man. I loved the He-Man cartoon back in the days, but I would be shocked if any kids below the age of 18 even know about He-Man. It can be made easily enough, but I don't think it would draw at all
ATOMbomb
ATOMbomb - 4/12/2010, 1:07 PM
Shaman, yeah I didn't think about the young factor. Butler would be a great Man At Arms. All us Masters fans should push for Nighy as Skeletor..that alone would be epic. Keep it make-up like in the first one not CG and yeah no future. @princenamor1 There was an animated series in 2002 that was real popular. Anyway, the old school stuff has a strong cult following. I would like to see this as a trilogy, done right of course.

If they kept a sober vision likened to that of LOTR, I think it could work.
Much like star wars, arcane fantasy with sci-fi accentuation.

Dude! I think it was you that got me on to that show. It was very good! If they modeled the movie after this show's contexts and themes, it would do well.

CDB- Actually... no i haven't. Saw him in the same thing as you. I just think that He-Man isn't the most cerebral role and that he might pull it off. I just haven't seen him in anything where he was cringy. And good built young actors are hard to find. I just don't wanna be stuck with them casting Kelan Lutz for He-Man. I think i'd end my life.
