I am not a "Nolanite" or "Nolan fanboy." While this term has gained popularity amongst fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (+20 movies) to term against fans of Nolan's stand-alone Dark Knight universe (3 films), it is not a term that spans to every fan of a Nolan movie. As the term implies a biggotry, I dismiss its limitations to my character as I am a lover of all types of movies.
That being said, this movie...
Best film in years. Emotional enough to make your eyes water, intense enough to put you on the edge of your seat and curling your toes, human enough to make you empathize with these fantastical yet real people, well rounded enough to leave you with almost no critical questions, grounded enough to accept as possible, surprisingly lighter than expected (more than most forced humor movies) to the point where you find yourself chuckling at very organic and refreshing humor, and of course....SPACE! *clears throat* Seriously though, all of the space sequences with the Endurance felt very realistic and practical; more so than Alfonso Cuarón's Oscar winner
Gravity, if I do say so myself. It is also important to recognize a fantastic performance by Matt Damon that, while minor, carried the film into a higher dimension of intensity.
SPOILER TERRITORY
In complete honesty, I had little to no problems with this movie. Perhaps the only thing that bothered me was when Tom's corn field had been burned and his sister, Murph, basically called him out for being a stubborn father and putting his family's life in danger. Tom's total and complete acceptance of his sister talking to their 'ghost' dad really puzzled me. It seems natural, to me at least, that someone who just went through a lot of shit would blow their top and reject supernatural claims, rather than keep his cool.
All in all, confusing character decision.
/SPOILER TERRITORY
Final Verdict: A nearly perfect film; a true masterpiece that any movie lover needs to see before the end of 2014. The 2001 of this generation? Absolutely, I would even say more personal than 2001. Perhaps the only movie in the past 5 years to challenge the greatness this film achieved is Quentin Tarantino's
Django Unchained. Even then,
Interstellar proves itself to be superior. Get to the theater as soon as possible and immerse yourself in Nolan's greatest work yet. 5 out of 5 stars, it deserves all the positive reviews and money it gets.
