TheReddestHood presents...BATMAN: ARKHAM

Despite some of the rumored line-up of DC Films saying otherwise, I'm sure there will be a Batman solo film in the future. This is my idea for the first of these solo films. Loosely based off of Batman: Arkham Asylum, Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth, and my imagination, this idea will (hopefully) blow your mind. So without further ado, I give you ARKHAM!!!

Batman has been active for 14 years now. He’s fought many villains and despite all the trouble they’ve caused he’s decided to spare their lives and lock them up. What happens when all of the villains are together? What happens when the villains don’t break out, but the hero breaks in? What happens when there’s no way out? What happens when everywhere you turn there’s someone with a grudge against you? What happens when you’re trapped....in Arkham Asylum….

EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS:
An executive producer (EP) enables the making of a commercial entertainment product. He or she may be concerned with management accounting and/or with associated legal issues (like copyrights or royalties). An EP generally contributes to the film's budget and may or may not work on set.

Zack Snyder {Batman v Superman: Dawn of JusticeMan of Steel}:

Zack Snyder would be the first person to direct this iteration of Batman on film.  Since he put the first touch on the character, I think he should have something to do with the movie itself.

Michael Uslan {Name something on TV or Film starring Batman since 1989}:
Michael Uslan is a HUGE Batman fan that has been a part of basically all Batman projects on TV and film since the release of Tim Burton's first film with the Caped Crusader.

Charles Roven {American Hustle, Man of Steel, The Dark Knight Trilogy}:
Charles Roven has been behind all of the (good) DC films since Batman Begins. Not only that, but he also has produced other great films and has been awarded two Producers Guild of America awards, an Oscar, and more. He's invested in the DCCU (producing MOS and BvS: DoJ) and I'm sure he'd be happy to continue in it.

PRODUCERS:
Film producers prepare and then supervise the making of a film before presenting the product to a financing entity or a film distributor. They might be employed by a production company or be independent, yet either way they help the creative people as well as the accounting personnel.

Bruce Timm {Batman: The Animated SeriesBatman: Mask of the Phantasm}:
Bruce Timm is an amazing guy who should be a producer on the next Batman film. He did wonders for the DCAU and I'd love for him to have his hand in this universe as well.

Geoff Johns {Batman v Superman: Dawn of JusticeThe Flash {TV Series} }:
Geoff Johns is a head honcho over at DC comics and has done works for the company. He's created some of the best stories and should definitely be involved in the production of the DCCU films.

Bruce Berman {Great Gatsby, The MatrixSherlock Holmes}:
Berman has been a producer on many great films and would definitely not be a disadvantage to this one. He even has experience with Batman, producing The Lego Movie.

COSTUME DESIGN:
A costume designer is a person who designs costumes for a film or stage production. The role of the costume designer is to create the characters and balance the scenes with texture and color, etc.
Michael Wilkinson {TRON: LegacyAmerican HustleBatman v Superman DoJ}:
Michael Wilkinson is one of the best costume designers out there. I chose him for his work on Tron: Legacy, but when I saw the rest of his resume on IMDB he happened to already be working on BvS: DoJ and worked on MoS. He's showed that he can create a range of costumes and does great when tasked with doing it.

COMPOSER:
A film score (also sometimes called film music, background music, or incidental music) is original music written specifically to accompany a film. The score forms part of the film's soundtrack, which also usually includes dialogue and sound effects, and comprises a number of orchestral, instrumental or choral pieces called cues which are timed to begin and end at specific points during the film.

Steven Price {GravityThe World's EndAttack the Block}:
Steven Price is an amazing composer. Gravity was a great film (IMO) and the score was one of the best parts. I believe it to be on par with the effects. It added to the overall experience of the movie SOOO much more than most movies I see and I'd love to see him do a movie like this.

 STORY CONSULTANTS:
A  story consultant is often an experienced writer who works on -- but is not the principle writer of -- a television or film script, according to John August, whose screenwriting credits include “Charlie’s Angels,” “Frankenweenie,” and “Big Fish.” Some consultants, like Catherine Kretz, whose credits include "X-Files" and "Santa Clause 2," also work with directors and producers when a script isn't working.
Paul Dini {Batman: TASBatman: BeyondBatman: Arkham Asylum}:
Paul Dini is a great writer who has worked on Batman stories for years. He understands the characters (created some too), and does a great job handling them. I'd love to see him have his hand in the script and make sure it doesn't take a HUGE departure away from the source material. He also wrote Batman: Arkham Asylum (the game from which this is partially based).

Scott Snyder {American Vampire, Detective Comics, Batman, Batman: Gates of GothamSwamp Thing}:
Scott Snyder is a FANTASTIC writer and has done my favorite runs on the character next to Frank Millers (Tied with Grant Morrison and Alan Moore). I love the new 52 Batman title more than any other new 52 title because of his work on it. He knows the characters, loves the characters, and writes them all exceptionally. I'd love to have him as a Story Consultant for this movie.

Also Considered:
Grant Morrison
Alan Moore

SCREENWRITER:
A screenplay writer, screenwriter for short, or scriptwriter or scenarist is a writer who practices the craft of screenwriting, writing screenplays on which mass media such as films, television programs, comics or video games are based.
Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver {Rise/Dawn of the Planet of the Apes}:
These two are behind some of my favorite films of the 2010s. Both Rise and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes have had great reviews, great following, great directors, and most importantly a great script. There work on the Apes on Horses franchise has ocnvinced me that they would be perfect candidates to write a Batman film.

CINEMATOGRAPHER:
A cinematographer or director of photography (sometimes shortened to DP or DOP) is the chief over the camera and lighting crews working on a film, television production or other live action piece and is responsible for achieving artistic and technical decisions related to the image. The study and practice of this field is referred to as cinematography.

Rodrigo Prieto {ArgoThe Wolf of Wall Street}:
Prieto is an amazing Cinematographer. The cinematography seen in Argo and the Wolf of Wall Street are both remarkable. Wit ha great director behind him he could do wonders for a movie. I'd love to see him do a Batman film.

Also Considered:
Oliver Wood
Roger Deakins

DIRECTOR:
A film director is a person who directs the making of a film. Generally, a film director controls a film's artistic and dramatic aspects, and visualizes the script while guiding the technical crew and actors in the fulfillment of that vision. The director has a key role in choosing the cast members, production design, and the creative aspects of filmmaking.
Ben Affleck {ArgoThe TownGone Baby Gone}:
I think it'd be a mistake not to have Ben Affleck direct a Batman solo film. I personally believe that this was a part of the deal when they signed him on. Not only is he a huge Batman fan, but he also has not yet directed a bad film and has directed and acted in two of his 3 films. I think Affleck is THE PERFECT (and most logical) choice for directing a Batman movie.

BATMAN:
Bruce Wayne witnessed the murder of his billionaire parents as a child, swearing to avenge them. He trained extensively to achieve mental and physical perfection, mastering martial arts, detective skills, and criminal psychology. Costumed as a bat to prey on criminals' fear, and utilizing a high-tech arsenal, the legendary Batman was born.

Ben Affleck {Age: 41, Height: 6'4, ArgoThe Town}:
Ben Affleck is not only a great director, but he's grown SO much as an actor over his career. He's shown the acting chops he has in Argo (which he lead) and is an exemplary case of practice makes perfect. I'm happy he's playing Batman and if I wasn't who cares, it's too late anyway.

BATGIRL:
Barbara Gordon is Batgirl! After begin saved by Batman has a little girl, she obsessed over martial arts and criminology so that she could one day fight alongside the Bat. She joined his crusade after being kidnapped and fending for herself, then helping Batman retrieve other kidnapped girls.
Emilia Clarke {Age: 27, Height: 5'2, Game of ThronesDom Hemingway}:
I think Emilia Clarke would be great as Batgirl. She can play a tough strong girl and I'd love to see her in the costume ;). She's a great actress that would own this role. We'd just have to use movie magic to maker her a little taller!

Also Considered:
Emma Watson
Jennifer Lawrence
Emma Stone

ROBIN:
With his father in jail and his mother in the hospital, Jason turned to a life of crime. After seeing the Batman in action, Jason traded in his criminal life for one of a vigilante. After his mother dies, he turns back to crime and one day uncovers the batmobile in an alley. He tries to steal the tires when Batman appears. He says he's noticed the good Jason had been doing, but tells him he needed to be trained. Batman takes him in and he becomes Robin!

Asa Butterfield {Age: 17, Height: 5'10, Enders GameHugo}:
Asa Butterfield is an incredibly talented actor who I think can have a great future in Hollywood, if he makes the right career moves. He'd be awesome in the role of a more brutal Jason Todd who's kind of getting sick of playing by Bruce's rules. Asa would do wonderful in this role!

Also Considered:
Colin Ford
Leo Howard

COMMISSIONER GORDON:
James Gordon was one of Batman's first supporters, helping him fight against crime and corruption. Rising to the rank of Commissioner in the Gotham City Police Department, he remains one of Batman's greatest allies.

Tom Hanks {Age: 58, Height: 6'0, Saving Private RyanForrest Gump}:
Tom Hanks is one of the greatest actors of all time. I don't know if he'd do a project like this, but if he did THIS should be the role he plays. There's something about him that screams Commissioner Gordon and it'd be awesome for him to play the character.

Also Considered:
Ted Levine

NIGHTWING:
Raised in Haly’s Circus as a skilled trapeze artist, Dick Grayson studied under Batman for years as the first Robin. During his time at college in Bludhaven, he realized how much help the city needed and turned into the hero Nightwing.

Kit Harington (Age: 27, Height: 5'8, Game of ThronesHow to Train Your Dragon 2}:
I think Harington is a great actor! I think he'd do a great job in the role of Nightwing based off of performances that I have seen from him in the past. This is a more troubled Dick who has a shakier relationship with Batman than he ever has. The character of Nightwing is younger than him, but can still pull it off.

Also Considered:
Chace Crawford

SGT. HARVEY BULLOCK:
Harvey Bullock was once a corrupt GCPD cop, until he turned over a new leaf and made a conscious effort to be an honest lawman. He is now one of Jim Gordon's most trusted officers.

Jon Bernthal {Age: 37, Height: 5'10, The Walking DeadThe Wolf of Wall Street}:
Jon Bernthal's performance in The Wolf of Wall Street convinced me to cast him in this role. Despite him being on the wrong side of the law in this, I think it'd be awesome to see him play Sgt. Bullock. He has the acting ability and presence and just fits the role perfectly in my eyes.

Also Considered:
Michael Chiklis

RENEE MONTOYA:
Renee Montoya was a Gotham City native who joined Gotham City Police Department. She was promoted to detective by Commissioner Gordon and partnered with Harvey Bullock. The character was originally created for Batman: the Animated Series. However, before debuting on the television series, her character was introduced in an issue of the Batman ongoing series in 1992 and had a recurring role as one of the faces of the Gotham City Police Department.

Zoe Saldana {Age: 3, Height: 5', Star Trek (J.J. Abrams), Guardians of the Galaxy}:
Zoe Saldana is a fantastic actress. She popped in to my mind as soon as I was thinking about the casting for this. Both of her parents being from the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, she is a strong Latina woman that would do this role justice!!!

Also Considered:

CRISPUS ALLEN:
Crispus Allen had his start as a police officer in Metropolis but transferred to Gotham City with his wife Dore and his two teenaged sons Jake and Malcolm. He joined James Gordon's Major Crimes Unit and was partnered with Renee Montoya, replacing her old partner Harvey Bullock.
Omari Hardwick {Age: 40, Height: 5'10, Being Mary JaneSparkle}:
Omari Hardwick is a decent actor who I think deserves more parts in movies. I think he would do this role justice and could pull it off easily.

Also Considered:

ALFRED PENNYWORTH:
Alfred Pennyworth is Bruce Wayne's loyal father figure and butler. Alfred raised Bruce (and later Dick Grayson and Jason Todd) after the death of the Waynes. A former British secret agent, Alfred is a skilled surgeon who often fixes members of the Bat-Family.

Jeremy Irons {Age: 65, Height: 6'2, The BorgiasThe Lion King}:
When Jeremy Irons was announced as Alfred the casting was overshadowed by Gal Gadot being cast as Wonder Woman. I feel that this casting is so great that this should've overshadowed Gal Gadot's casting, her being a model with little acting experience vs one of the best actors still working. I'd love ot see him as more of an earth one influenced Alfred and I think he could do an amazing job with it

HUGO STRANGE:
Dr. Hugo Strange is a brilliant but disturbed psychologist who forms an obsessive vendetta against Batman. Hugo is the warden as Arkham and has been running thigns there for years. He's oen of the smartest men in the world and Bruce believes he took the role of Warden for reasons he hasn't shared with the public.

Kevin Spacey {Age: 54, Height: 5'10, House of CardsThe Usual Suspects}:
Kevin Spacey is an AMAZING actor who has an incredible range. From playing his character on House of Cards, to straight up comedy, he can do anything. He's a world class actor and I think he'd be incredible in this role. This is my favorite casting in this article.

JOKER:
The Joker, Clown Prince of Crime, is Batman's arch-nemesis. An agent of chaos known for his purple three-piece suit and insidious smile, he has caused Batman more suffering than any other villain he has ever faced. His origin, name, and true motivations are unknown in mystery.
Troy Baker {Age: 38, Height: 6'3, Batman: Assault on ArkhamBatman: Arkham Origins}:
You might be thinking "Troy Baker is a vocie actor! He can't be a live action Joker!!!" I say to you "You're right, yet wrong as well." Troy Baker played Joel in The Last of Us, a criticaly acclaimed video game, and use motion capture. This shows that he clearly has a knowledge of stage presence and moving around, a quality crucial to the character of the Joker. I think he'd do an excellent job and could possibly (possibly) live up to Heath Ledger's performance by giving us something different that wouldn't be strictly compared to Ledger's.

Also Considered:
Michael Sheen
William Dafoe
Matthew Fox

HARLEY QUINN:
Harleen Quinzel, the Arkham psychiatrist who fell in love with the Joker. A "mad love" would lead her to a life of crime as Harley Quinn, frequent accomplice, and would-be-girlfriend of the Clown Prince of Crime.

Jena Malone {Age: 29, Height: 5'5, The Hunger Games: Catching FireDonnie Darko}:
Jena Malone is a great actress who I personaly think would do a great job as Harleen Quinzel. I could see her as the psychiatrist and crazy clown girl side and would lvoe her performances in both. She shwoed in Hunger Games that she can play a character with some crazy elements and if she took that up a coupel notches she'd be an awesome Harley Quinn.

SCARECROW:
Often known as the Master of Fear, the Scarecrow is an enemy of Batman. Johnathan Crane is a psychiatrist and chemist who works at Arkham Asylum. Scarecrow is losing his sanity due to his lack of fear, knowing only Batman can scare him.
Paul Dano {Age: 30, Height: 5'11, PrisonersLooper}:
Paul Dano has played some creepy ass characters and this would be one of them. I think Paul Dano is an underrated talent who would do a great job as Scarecrow. He would do wonderful in this role and I'd love to see it happen in real life.

Also Considered:

TWO FACE:
Formerly the D.A. of Gotham City, Harvey Dent was an ally of Batman and Commissioner Gordon until he had acid thrown onto the left side of his face by gangster Sal Maroni, scarring him for life. The incident drove Harvey insane and he became Two-Face, obsessed with chance and always carrying a double-headed coin, which he flips to determine his every decision.

Matthew McConaughey {Age: 44, Height: 6'0, True DetectiveDallas Buyers Club}:
McConaughey is an AMAZING actor. An Oscar winner, and recently Emmy nominated actor would not hurt the production of this film. I could see him playing Harvey Dent before and after the accident which rendered him with Two Face's and he'd do a great job with them both.

Also Considered:
Jon Hamm

POISON IVY:
A botanical biochemist, Pamela Isley is a fervent eco-terrorist out to save the world's plant life by any means necessary. She often finds herself at odds with Batman, though they have, on occasion, fought on the same side.
Christina Hendricks {Age: 39, Height: 5'7, Mad MenDrive}:
Christina Hendricks would make an awesome Poison Ivy. She is a very talented actress that I would love to see in a CBM role. Not only does she have the acting ability, but she resembles most female comic book characters more than almost any other actress (if you know what I mean ;).

Ben Foster {Age: 33, Height: 5'9, 3:10 to YumaKill Your Darlings}:
Ben Foster is a great actor. I think he isn't appreciated enough and I think he would be awesome in the role of Mr. Zsasz. I'd love to see him as this sadomasochist, criminal, lunatic that Has tally marks all over his body.

Also Considered:
Matthew Fox

KILLER CROC:
Waylon Jones was born with a genetic mutation making a reptile's skin, sharp claws and teeth appear due to opposite evolution. Croc became a circus wrestler whom would rise to conquer the Gotham Mob racket only then to become one of Batman's most physically imposing rogues.

Keith David {Age: 58, Height: 6'2, SpawnPlatoon}:
Keith David's deep and (sometimes) menacing voice would lend itself well to the character of Waylon Jones.  Click the picture above to see some voice over work David has done that ill prove he's qualified. Killer Croc would be motion captured by him (and his size would be enhanced) or someone else, though the latter would be preferred.

NOTES:
  • This takes place in 2014.
  • Commissioner Gordon knows that Barbara is Batgirl and that Bruce is Batman.
  • At the beginning of the film we open up with Batgirl and Robin saving a kidnapped girl from a warehouse. Robin is overly aggressive and Batman has to step in (against his wishes) to stop him.
  • Arkham is located at the end of "Old Gotham" or the slums of Gotham. This is an island connected to the main land and the nicer part of Gotham by "Kane Bridge". Wayne manor is located on a peninsula off of Old Gotham. Most of the suburbs and businesses of Gotham are located on the main land.
  • Arkham has an "uprising" led by the Joker. Batman is sent in to stop it. He goes with Batgirl, but leaves Robin outside with Commissioner Gordon and the rest of the police and SWAT at the scene.
  • Robin sneaks in about halfway through act 2.
  • Nightwing comes during act 3, after being called by Alfred and asked to help. He races to Gotham form Bludhaven and sneaks in.
  • In the third act Jason Todd is found by the Joker and is beaten with a crowbar in the part of the Asylum farthest back. After his beating Joker activates all of the bombs in the room. He quickly escapes in to the underground portion of the Asylum where he's safe from the blast, partially, and mounts a motorcycle to get away from the blast. Jason contacts Bruce and asks for help. Bruce tries to get to Jason, but is stopped by Killer Croc. He brutally defeats Croc to get to Jason, but right as Killer Croc goes unconscious, he hears an explosion. Bruce makes his way to the back of the Asylum and finds Jason dead.
  • Batgirl fights Harley Quinn, but is knocked out by the Joker from behind. She wakes up stripped of her costume (except her mask. If so it would "ruin all the fun"). After a couple punches and kicks from Harley, Joker shoots her in the waist. Nightwing finds them and brutally beats up the Joker and Harley before taking Barbara out. Batman shows up and guides Dick to the site of the explosion.
  • There, a police helicopter flies in the sky. Inside are Harvey Bullock, Renee Montoya, and Crispus Allen (they were in front prior to this). They release a latter and Nightwing climbs it with Barbara. Batman follows. As they fly over the Asylum, the section they are over explodes, sending the chopper tumbling to the ground. Batman and Nightwing make it out (with Barbara), but the police officers crash.
  • In the aftermath, Harvey Bullock and Renee Montoya survive with serious injuries, but Crispus dies. Barbara makes it out alive is is paralyzed from the waist down. Jason is dead. Dick blames Bruce for the death of Jason and cripple of Barbara. He returns to Bludhaven on bad terms with Dick. The criminals of Arkham (who were mentioned in the fan cast) make it out alive and escape. No one knows exactly where any of them are. Bruce continues his crusade as Batman, but becomes much more brutal and stops being a figure of justice, and becomes a figure of of vengeance.
  • The film ends with Hugo Strange standing in the center of a dark circular room (Earlier on the news (after the events at Arkham) it says that Warden Hugo Strange had gone missing and is presumed dead). Around him on a higher platform sit various men and women. Their faces are hidden and in the shadows. They question him on why he didn't succeed in killing the Batman. He says that he failed, but did kill one sidekick and cripple the other.  He explains to them his theory on why Bruce Wayne is Batman, they thank him for the information and one of them reveals a gun and shoots him in between is eyes. "Now that he is dealt with...what is the status on the formula?" he asks. One of his colleagues states that they have approached Victor Fries on the formula, but he refused to give it over. They are prepared to use force. The man who shot Strange gives them the go on using force. He says "Court dismissed" and stands up. He steps into the light and we see that he has a mask on his face. It looks like this...

Thank you for checking out this fancast!!! Comment your thoughts below and click that big red thumb!!! Again, thanks for stopping by and as always...

Those gifs make the article upvote worthy on their own, but onto my actual opinion:
I'd be pretty happy with this were it our next Batman film. I'd rather Zach Snyder wasn't a producer (I ain't a fan) but aside from him the producing lineup is perfect. I think I'd rather have Chris Terrio write the film though.
The casting is great, I'm not a huge fan of Butterfield but he'd make a good Robin, I think he'd suit Tim Drake better though. Jenna Malone would make an awesome Harley. I'd take a younger actress for Poison Ivy though, as much time as I could spend looking at Christina Henndricks, I think she's too old for the character.

Great write up RH, thumbs up from me!

@DEVLIN712

I didn't pay that much attention to the JL: Doom score, but it's really nice!!! I wanted some characters to be older and more in line with Batman's age while others can be young and some age didn't matter. Besides my decision on Hendricks was 60% visual lol. Chris Terrio was the original writer, but I wanted to do something a little different.

- My pick for Barbara Gordon would be Jessica Stroup. I think she's the only actress I can see nailing the character's transition to Oracle.
- Not a bad choice for Jason Todd!
- You know, Kit does bear similarities to the 3D model of Nightwing from Arkham City! Not a bad choice!
- Nice to see Zoe Saldana cast in a role that isn't Storm.
- MrBlueSky will love that you used his choice for Hugo Strange as well!
- I too am thinking of using Troy Baker as a younger Joker for my Arkham anthology fan cast, while Alan Tudyk will play a modern day Joker. I think he too did mo-cap for Joker as well, based on what someone told me.
- Jena Malone is an interesting choice for Harley Quinn!
- I've seen Jim Caviezel in the role of Two-Face. But I wouldn't be disappointed with McConaughey!
- I think Hendricks should trim her weight down a little bit before playing Poison Ivy. There's a thickness there.
- Unoriginal Mr. Zsasz. I wanna see Foster cast as a good guy for a little bit!
- Now Keith David as Killer Croc is something I can definitely cosign too!

My god, my mind was just blown. After reading this, I'm going to be disappointed by the solo Batman film, just because it's not this. The story is perfect for an older Batman. The cast is excellent. I like all of your choices, especially for the Bat family, Commissioner Gordon, Hugo Strange, Two face, and surprisingly Joker. I don't why, but Baker as Joker just clicks very well, even if he's inexperienced. 10/10 man, keep it up man!

I don't agree with all of your choices for example: Paul Dano as Scarecrow and even Tom Hanks as Commissioner Gordon.

But Overall, the cast is great. And to be honest, I'm more interested to see what Ben Affleck does with Batman as a director than an actor (although I believe he'll do a decent job on the acting end).

What a breathe if fresh air this is. You've done such a good job here. I can't say I agree with all of them but if the ones I wasn't thrilled with were cast, I can't say I'd be disappointed.

Batgirl and Robin blew me away. Nightwing looks great and I'm trusting he's pull ot off. I'm not floored with Gordon and Montoya, then my draw drops with Bullock.

I'd rather see another as Strange, given the Luthor mess. Crow is good but then I think how he may CW off as too similar to Nolan's version.

I think a thinner-hipped Ivy is better but man is that a great Quinn... Trusting your Joker judgment here.

Use Foster in a more prominent role and find me a Dent that doesn't give me a migrane. Maybe Foster as Dent even if he's near half a decade younger than Affleck... Maybe not.

I want more :)
