The PACIFIC RIM Sequel Is Still A Go, According To Director Guillermo Del Toro
It was recently reported that the Pacific Rim sequel was put on indefinite hold, and it might not get the chance to hit the big screen. However, director Guillermo Del Toro spoke on the issue, and revealed that he's still working on the project! Hit the jump to check it out!
Yesterday, a report came out by The Hollywood Reporter that revealed that there is friction between Universal and Legendary, that puts the Pacific Rim sequel in jeopardy! Does this mean we won't ever see a sequel to the first action-packed film? It's possible, but Guillermo Del Toro says otherwise.
According to the Crimson Peak director, during his interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Pacific Rim sequel will still move forward, but it might take some time. "We are still turning in a screenplay and a budget in three weeks. As far as I’m concerned, it’s not gone. We’re still on it.”
Del Toro then elaborated, and explained that the film's delay is only temporary. He also teased that he could possibly direct another film in between that time peroid. “It moved further. I may do another movie in the middle.” Aside from Pacific Rim 2, Guillermo Del Toro fantasized, and revealed the films he would love to make if he was a billionaire. "I can tell you this, if I was a billionaire, I would definitely do Hellboy 3, Pacific Rim 2, and At the Mountains of Madness." He then added, "And I would quickly become a millionaire.”
I'm sure we'd all love to see those films hit the big screen! And even though he didn't mention it, I'm sure Justice League Dark would be on that list as well! Back to the topic at hand, how would you want all this to end? Would you want to see the studios come to an agreement, and allow the film to hit theaters? Or would you rather see the franchise "go the way of the western," as Spielberg said regarding superhero films? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
