Will Smith Talks About His Character's Death In INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE
When the first Independence Day: Resurgence trailer was released, people were excited to see that the franchise had returned, however, they had one question: Where was Will Smith's character Steven Hiller? Eventually we got our answer, and now Will Smith has responded...
In a recent interview with Yahoo, Will Smith - who hasn't watched a football game since starring in "Concussion" - revealed how he found out about his character's death in Independence Day: Resurgence. "I was working on Suicide Squad during that time. Roland [Emmerich] and I had talked about it. The trailer looks really cool." He then joked about how he's going to be in tears once the film hits theaters. "I’m going to be sitting around with tears in my eyes when that one comes out… It was terrible when I found out my character died."
Why didn't Will Smith reprise his role in the sequel? Roland Emmerich, in an interview late last year with Cinema Blend, revealed that Smith was tired of sequels. "In the very beginning, I wanted to work with him and he was excited to be in it but then after a while he was tired of sequels, and he did another science fiction film, which was his father-son story, so he opted out."
So that's, that! Would you have liked to see Will Smith reprise his role in the film? Also, do you think it was right how they sent his character off? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
Independence Day: Resurgence hits theaters on June 24, 2016.
