In a recent interview with Yahoo, Will Smith - who hasn't watched a football game since starring in "Concussion" - revealed how he found out about his character's death in Independence Day: Resurgence. "I was working on Suicide Squad during that time. Roland [Emmerich] and I had talked about it. The trailer looks really cool." He then joked about how he's going to be in tears once the film hits theaters. "I’m going to be sitting around with tears in my eyes when that one comes out… It was terrible when I found out my character died."

Why didn't Will Smith reprise his role in the sequel? Roland Emmerich, in an interview late last year with Cinema Blend, revealed that Smith was tired of sequels. "In the very beginning, I wanted to work with him and he was excited to be in it but then after a while he was tired of sequels, and he did another science fiction film, which was his father-son story, so he opted out."

So Thanks to After Earth we lost the best thing from the first independence day movie? As if it wasn't shitty enough, Will Smith at least made it tolerable.

Haha, I was talking World Wide, when I realized you were talking about Flopping domestically, I deleted my comment...

I don't think he's Box Office poison though, especially when we're talking about movies like Concussion, which the NFL has talked about wanting to flop, and Focus, which wasn't intended to make big numbers as far as I know.... but still made $159,062,963 WW, Focus also topped the weekend Box Office, when it was released

If Concussion or Focus made big numbers it would be a surprise

Anyway, Box Office arguments are lame, ha, can't wait for the CBM slate this year

For all we know he could probably come back if he really wanted to. His "death" could be a way just to cover up what really happened to him and how he really went missing.

What is this ass-clown talking about, Will Smith's movies flop??

I AM LEGEND = $585M

MIB2 $442M

MIB3 = $624M

HANCOCK = $624M

HITCH = $368M

PURSUIT = $307M

SHARK TALE = $367M

I ROBOT = $347M

Smith has done 16 films since 2000, and out of those 16, half of them have done fairly well. That's better than some other A-list stars. Plus, Smith generally caters to the Black audience, most of whom (especially Black women) LOVE him. He's a handsome actor, physically fit (despite his age), and can do diverse roles (comedy, action, romance, drama, etc).

He damn well does deserve every penny he asks for.

Precisely, TBS has been out longer than Concussion has, and has barely done the same amount of money in the box office. Plus, Concussion has only been out for a week.

When they say that Smith's movies have been flops, they're talking about his most recent string of films: Focus, After Earth, probably Concussion... Obviously before 2010, Will Smith was almost guaranteed blockbuster success, but he's only made one financially successful film since 2010, and that was MIB3 (2012), which you mentioned made $624 WW, but was just an average film at best...

I personally like Smith, but I have to agree that he's not the box office draw that he was 10 years ago (After Earth left a really bad taste in my mouth)... However, I am excited to see what he does in SS...

Concussion is a good film. It's a bit of an eye-opener and, as a fan of football, can be painful to watch but it NEEDS to be seen.

Am I the only one who though the best part of ID4 was the first half, with the arrival of the aliens and when they blew shit up? After that it became more of a cheesy comedy with the best motivation speak ever. Still fun to watch and Will was good. But I still liked thexfirst half way better and wont miss Will at all. We still got Jeff!

Not sure Smith made 20 million for Focus? I think I know where you got that number, and that's a really rough estimation, I don't think it's based in fact, especially after, After Earth.

Smith and the WB also weren't worried about Focus being #1, and they didn't expect it to be a blockbuster.

“It is a huge relief for me to not care whether or not Focus is No. 1 or No. 10 at the box office,”

I remember how ahead of its time the marketing campaign for ID was back in 1996. They actually broadcast a fake news update on television with the actors to announce than an alien ship had been spotted. They even had a full press conference with Robert Logia playing his General character and Bill Pulman as the POTUS.

It was pretty cool and authentic.
