Regardless on which side of the issue you come down on, SOPA and PIPA is something any user of the internet needs to read up on and see how it could affect sites you love such as CBM. In an open letter to Washington, heavy hitters from Neil Gaiman and Trent Reznor, Adam Savage of Mythbusters, and even Andy Samberg and The Lonely Island have penned the following:

An open letter to Washington from Artists and Creators

We, the undersigned, are musicians, actors, directors, authors, and producers. We make our livelihoods with the artistic works we create. We are also Internet users.

We are writing to express our serious concerns regarding the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) and the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA).

As creative professionals, we experience copyright infringement on a very personal level. Commercial piracy is deeply unfair and pervasive leaks of unreleased films and music regularly interfere with the integrity of our creations. We are grateful for the measures policymakers have enacted to protect our works.

We, along with the rest of society, have benefited immensely from a free and open Internet. It allows us to connect with our fans and reach new audiences. Using social media services like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, we can communicate directly with millions of fans and interact with them in ways that would have been unimaginable just a few years ago.

We fear that the broad new enforcement powers provided under SOPA and PIPA could be easily abused against legitimate services like those upon which we depend. These bills would allow entire websites to be blocked without due process, causing collateral damage to the legitimate users of the same services - artists and creators like us who would be censored as a result.

We are deeply concerned that PIPA and SOPA's impact on piracy will be negligible compared to the potential damage that would be caused to legitimate Internet services. Online piracy is harmful and it needs to be addressed, but not at the expense of censoring creativity, stifling innovation or preventing the creation of new, lawful digital distribution methods.

We urge Congress to exercise extreme caution and ensure that the free and open Internet, upon which so many artists rely to promote and distribute their work, does not become collateral damage in the process.

Respectfully,

If it passes it passes.....I would be ultra ticked but then again maybe it might make us get out into the world again instead of hiding behind internet and computor screens all day long. As much as I am apart of the computor generation, I was a kid and teen before internet came around and I and a lot of others were heaps better off back then. Who knows...

So, do people that visit/contribute to this site that don't live in the USA still have the same constitutional rights? I know a lot of members are from the UK and was wondering if this affects them. Are we gonna start sending Interpol agents around the world to crack down on foreign based websites that don't comply?

Dear Congress,
We do not agree with the laws you have provided us and we have dozens of people from the internet who signed this petition that you will ignore. If you continue, we will not let people on our website for a day.
Signed Malcolm X and Rosa Park.

A bit of an extreme metaphor I know but you know African Americans would still have the rights they had in the 1950's or worse if they protested they way that we are "protesting". Once one of these are passed, our generations needs learn how to protest effectively.

Sneezer: That would be Lamar Smith (R-Tex) who is to blame for the House bill. I know "Dingy Harry" Reid and Patrick Leahy are the big two pushing the Senate bill, but I'm not sure which of them is to blame for actually writing it. The only bad thing about what you're advocating is that it is a waste of perfectly good urine.

RyanLantern: Ron Paul is the one candidate we can count on to stand up for the Constitution. He's the only guy I'll vote for.
