Hollywood Life has reported that a source close to production on the highly anticipated film, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 , has revealed why Mary Jane (Shailene Woodley) was cut from the new flick. Last week it was revealed that Shailene's character had been cut from the film for reasons pertaining to the plot, and now according to Hollywood Life..
Emma Stone’s character dies in the next film and that really would take a bunch out of the film if Spider-Man all the sudden starts dating a new girl so close to an important characters death. They were noticing this occurring as they filmed Shailene’s scenes. They want to make the death of Gwen Stacy really mean something and then it will leave room for Shailene to shine in the third film.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is an upcoming American superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man, directed by Marc Webb and released by Columbia Pictures. The film is scheduled to be released on May 2, 2014 in 2D and 3D.
