Reports True-blood.net, "Joe Manganiello is appearing at EyeCon this weekend, and per reports from fans at the convention, he revealed that he is in talks with Warner Bros. to play the Man of Steel in the upcoming Superman reboot. Others rumored to be up for the role are Brendan Routh who played Clark Kent in Superman Returns and Tom Welling who has played the role on Smallville for 10 seasons. What do you think, would Joe make a good Superman?"

On True Blood, the actor portrays werewolf Alcide Herveaux.

UPDATE: On his Twitter account, Manganiello just tweeted, "Just to be clear... as of today, I am not 'negotiating' to play SuperMan ...but keep your fingers crossed and thanks for the wishful thinking!"

It's not going to be Routh, so u can forget him, this is a reboot and they need to separate it in everyday from superman returns.

Also they are looking for an older actor. Im sick of a superman that looks 24.

@LP4 You wanna do what..?
No way should this dodgy looking jock be Supes!
@Robert Garlan -You're so right. If Snyder wants to appease the Routhbootists (And we make up a large portion of the fanbase), he should at least give Routh a screentest. Didn't we hear something about this from Chris Nolan earlier on and then Snyder, recently?

@DukeAcureds2010- Routhbootists don't give a flying [frick]en shit about Superman. You care more about routh than the character. Routh had his shot already, time to move on and let someone else have their chance.

And furthermore- [frick] YOU.
EdGross
EdGross - 11/6/2010, 3:40 PM
I think Routh was indeed a good Superman, but I'm also of the firm belief that the filmmakers are going to want to put this film as far away from previous versions as they can, which means no Routh, no Welling, no John Williams theme, etc. My FEELING is that this will be a ground up reboot. Just an opinion.

@LP4 you wanna what? Plus, we do care about Superman. We don't want to see this movie get [frick]ed up. Would you rather Routh or Flash Thompson. Better the devil you know, duder.

Matthew Reeve Christopher Reeve's son in a interview said "Superman movie should just be original".

he also said "instead of worrying whether they should keep Routh or try to cast yet another actor who looks like Christopher Reeve in the upcoming reboot, Matthew suggested that Warner Bros. focus more on the story this next time around."

heres the whole interview

I'd love to see him be Supes, I think he's a great actor and he looks the part. There was a manip of him with blue contacts and the superman suit. He just fit it perfectly!

I'd still like Jon Hamm, but I would be more than happy with this choice.

@creature Routh as Bizarro? bangin'! I'm down with that.
LP4
LP4 - 11/6/2010, 3:47 PM
@DukeAcureds2010- No you people don't care. TRUE fans want Supes to have a fresh, new start. Manganiello has said he's a TRUE Superman fan and I believe it, he's been a fan-favorite for years. Routh never read the comics, only watched the old movies. Plus routh has ZERO screen-presence. He never DOES ANYTHING.

Mangniello is a better actor- more fluid actor than routh. Routh is too "wooden"

Routh had his shot and you routh-people already got your routh-Superman-movie in 2006. Time to let us have a NEW take on Supes with a fresh, new FACE.

Furthermore- stop making my comments out to sound like some perverted fantasy of yours.

lets just face facts there will be (no) ROUTH and (no) WELLING in this reboot... good look to the guy. i think this movie is in good hands and we might finaly get the superman movie we've been waitn so long to see..bring on the man of steel! dont think we'll have to wait too long before we find out who 'THE MAN OF STEEL' will be but it ain't gunna be ROUTH or WELLING that's for sure!
LP4
LP4 - 11/6/2010, 3:49 PM
@DukeAcureds2010- Also you can't claim that Manganiello would somehow ruin the new Superman film. Otherwise with a statement like that, I could just as bluntly blame Routh for the failure of the last Superman film in 2006. But you'll probably say "it wasn't routh's fault, he's only the actor" well same could be said for Manganiello. I'm sure he'll do well.

Kyos
Kyos - 11/6/2010, 3:50 PM
I want an actor who convinces me he's Superman. Like in SuperMAN. Routh only convinced me he could be Chris Reeve's younger brother. And even that aside, Routh is just not going to be Supes on the big screen again. Wouldn't make any sense. And Welling won't be neither. Please accept it already. °_°'

As for Joe Manganiello - I just watched True Blood, and I'm really not sure I like him for Kal-El. But I'd choose him over Routh or Welling anytime... :P
DukeAcureds
DukeAcureds - 11/6/2010, 3:51 PM
@LP4 -What do you mean Routh is too "wooden". Ok, I'll stop. That's the last time.
Manganiello looks like a thug, anyway. You really want him as Superman?
