What direction will the remake film take? Find out inside!
With the recent news of production company Twisted Films acquiring the rights to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise from Platinum Dunes, not much was known about plot details or the direction the future film will take.
Shock Till You Drop had the privilege of speaking with the producer of the film, Mark Burg.
"Platinum Dunes had a one off deal, then I guess they got into a disagreement with the rights holders. Carl Mazzacone, who works for us, set up a meeting for myself and the original Chainsaw co-writer; Kim Henkel, we flew down and closed the deal in the room."
So it seems there were rights issue stemming from Platinum Dunes no longer being able to produce the film. But as for the future of the franchise, what does Twisted Pictures have in mind?
"What we're going to do with it is bring it to 2010. Make it current day and come up with a new story that takes some of the basic plot points, if you will, and make it a current day movie. I don't want to make another Chainsaw in the '70s, that doesn't thrill me," says Burg.
A modern day Leatherface...
"I haven't seen first draft yet, but we're working on it," he adds. "Stephen's such a smart guy. We're coming up with the idea. It's a 'what if?' It's 35 years later, there's a relative going back. Why is he going back? I don't want to set it in a dusty town. How do we make it more urban but keep that feel. There will be some relatives, some new people. There's still the subtext of 'are they eating these people?' The whole idea of cannibalism, we're bringing it back," he said.
Whispers68: So the film will become more modern. Would we have Leatherface wrecking havoc on a big city like New York or will the film take place in a suburb? We have a 3D 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' and now being detailed as a modern interpretation. I don't like the 3D aspect but as far as using a new direction and placing the horror franchise in a more modern setting, I'm all for it. Twisted Pictures, I only ask that you don't follow the cliche standards of recent horror films.
