Sam Raimi Confirms Bruce Campbell to Play Big Role in Spider-Man 4

It seems the horror legend Bruce Campbell will play a worthy role in Spider-Man 4.
Actor Bruce Campbell, who appears in all three Spider-Man films, mentioned over a month ago that he would have a significant role in Spider-Man 4, but the part was never confirmed by director Sam Raimi...until now.

When asked by MTV News about Campbell's participation, Raimi laughed and said, "I promised him we would write something because I really love putting him in the pictures. I promised him a good, meaty role."

When asked what role Campbell would play, Raimi said, "I don't even know what it is yet."





Whispers68: I wonder what role they'll have Bruce playing. With the villain not as yet confirmed but if the direction of The Lizard takes place, we already know who has been set up for that position...so where does this leave Campbell?

Why is this such a bad idea? Make him Mysterio! It's the perfect funny part for Campbell. A notable villain that Spidey can take down early on in the movie.

I think that Raimi is just guessing at this point - by the sound of it he hasnt even had a finished script yet!

A cameo of Mysterio might have been fun but I cant see it happenning! They should just focus on the movies actual main villains otherwise we'll end up with half assed versions like Venom and Harry were in Spider-Man 3!

That'd be cool if he did play a villain. I don't see the problem with Mysterio. He's no "sillier" looking than the Green Goblin in the first Spidey. I'd welcome Mysterio with open arms. :)

Well I know everyone is keen on Campbell playing Mysterio but after 3 movies in which he has appeared as a completely different identity in each, the one villain that pops into mind for me is Chameleon. Granted it's always Campbell's face we see but it would be kinda nice to see that these weren't just random cameos and wind them into the storyline. Parker never notices him because each time he meets he has something big on his mind and isn't paying attention. Maybe he's stalking either MJ or peter for some reason? Just my thoughts anyhow

So I just brought myself to watch Spider-Man 3 for the first time since seeing it at the cinema.

In all honesty, up until.......just after getting the symbiote, I thought the movie was ok. But I'm going to go through the things I would have done different in regards to the characters.

Harry - Shouldnt've turned good. He should've been the other main villain along with Sandman. Have Harry fabricate a story about Sandman killing Ben to make Spider-Man go after him. Then offer Sandman the money he needs to help his daughter AND offer to help destroy Spider-Man. And his suit/glider should've looked similar to Norman's

Sandman - He should've had move screen time. Should have been able to develop his story a little more because he was the best part about this movie. As for him being Ben's killer, he shouldnt've been, BUT have Peter think he was due to Harry fabricating the story about him killing Pete's uncle.


Gwen Stacy - Since Mary Jane is already a main part of the story line, I don't think I would've had her in the movie. If you want another interest, why not introduce Felicia Hardy?

Mary Jane - I thought her story was fine except make her a model/actress, not a singer.

Symbiote/Venom - This was the big let down of the movie as everyone knows.

First of all, just how they introduced the symbiote could've taken more screen time. I know they can't do the Secret Wars, but why not use the story from the 90's cartoon? A mission to the moon with John Jameson (he's already been introduced after all) where they find this myseterious substance. They're bringing it back to earth when the symbiote breaks out & causes them to crash land near NYC. So Spidey gets on the scene, saves the astronauts and in the process, gets the symbiote on his suit. This would've made for a sweet opening action scene.

Of course throughout the movie, the suit would give Peter the aggressive personallity that pushes MJ away and makes him wanna get revenge on Sandman, just like this movie did. (Minus the emo look & the dancing)

Meanwhile have Eddie Brock (NOT played by Topher Grace) publish a story on Flint being the real killer in the Ben Parker case. Also have him do a story on how Spider-Man sabotaged the shuttle landing. That way he has a career that Spidey can ruin by getting the truth out.

Then have the final battle between Black-suit Spidey & Green Goblin II & Sandman. Spidey would win out & come close to killing Harry due to the aggressive nature of the suit. Have Sandman see the wrong he is doing and get away. And have Harry put in a mental institution.

Then have the church scene to end the movie. That way you'd have Venom AND a good possibility for Black Cat in Spidey 4.

Oh and put an effect on Venom's voice so it sounds like 2 voices & have him call himself "We"

So yeah, that's my 2 cents on it. More changes than I thought I would've made, but I think that would've made for an excellent Spidey 3.

Haha, sorry for the long post! And for me, seeing Mysterio or Chameleon would be awesome!

It's okay, Rune. In all honesty, I thought the movie was pretty good but suffered from having Venom shoehorned in.

Plus, the whole Harry dying thing was the other problem I had. Now who's going to kill Gwen?

But yeah, if the movie had been done like that or at least the venom deal of it, the movie wouldn't get NEARLY as much flack as it did.

I guess when they finally get around to introducing Carnage, they can have her get killed by him like in Ult. Spidey.

P.S- Why is it that some video games have better written stories then the damn movies? Arkham Asylum, Web of Shadows, Wolverine, X-Men Legends 2, Force Unleashed, just to name a few. Maybe the games should start influencing the movies instead of the other way around.

I have a feeling Raimi knows everything already and isn't letting nothing out of the bag. Smart move considering the proven fact that almost all third sequels have sucked gig time. I have a good feeling he'll get it right this time, and hopefully no studio will ever again push a major villain in to an already busy movie. Venom is the greatest example of what NOT to do in a franchise.

He's Mysterio!Not with a fish bowl though,Maybe a helmet Shaped like IM's helmet but Hollow,filled with smoke and glowing eyes peaking out.
For the costume,maybe a dark green armor with dark puple highlights
Along with machine guns,rockets,jet pack,etc,etc
He does NOT have to be cheesey or Lizards penis :)

Interesting idea @cali

Actually I see it now: Chameleon has been following Parker all the time since he was bit by the spider in the very first movie.
And in the fourth movie we see him battle lizard and kraven obviously - they are the best picks IMO.
But during the movie The Chameleon aka Bruce cameoing will show up more and more. Possibly connecting kraven and chameleon in a scene. And in the end we see that he has been hired by no other than the kingpin, who actually wanted Peter to get bitten as an experiment(much like Norman did with Peter in The Ultimate Spiderman comics)

I agree 110% that Campbell should play Mysterio but does Spider-Man 4 have room for him, Kraven and Lizard? That sounds like a Spider-Man 3 style disster!

Though I still want Scorpion for Spider-Man 4...!

MovieTheaterLad - The scenario for Gwen's death was already used in the first film! That irritated me at the time, but now we don't know if Gwen will be killed off at all!

BTW, I find it very strange that people who like the Rhino want to see him face Spidey when he hasn't been portrayed in the best light when facing the web-head --ESPECIALLY in the cartoons! What are you guys so anxious to see? Spidey leaping out of the way of his attacks while making wise cracks and spraying him in the face with webbing? No thanks, I actually LIKE the Rhino - he's my favorite Marvel super-villain!

If this keeps up, I'm gonna start suggesting the Juggernaut as a Spidey villain!!! It's just as ridiculous to me! For a cameo villain, Spidey should be paired against a foe who he matches up with more evenly and whom scoring a victory against quickly would be impressive! The Shocker fits that bill perfectly!

I wanna see ol' horn-head shine onscreen - Hulk Vs. Rhino would give him a worthy opponent and allow him to showcase his power instead of being used for comic relief -- and in a cameo nonetheless, as many of you have previously suggested!!!

Funny thing though, although the Rhino was a Russian immigrant, I don't recall him ever being written or voiced with a Russian accent!

Do we think a film with multiple villains will work this time around for Spider-Man 4?

I'm not bashing opinions on the idea, just asking since he is placing 'The Lizard' as the "main" culprit potentially, I've noticed a lot of people also say let's add 'Kraven' and now with the latest addition of Campbell having a "major" role in the film, people want him as third villain...Mysterio

Will it take away from the emphasis each character can bring? Or it doesn't matter this time around?

I think the villains should be Lizard and Kraven, but maybe Bruce Campbell could play the Chameleon and kind of be behind the scenes, helping out kraven.

I think Bruce would be great for Mysterio; he even looks a lot like him, but I'm not sure about Mysterio in a movie. They'd have to work to make him not cheesy

i think that there is going to be 2 stories going on

-spider-man trying to save lizard before kraven kills him

- peter becoming friends with beck, yet spider-man humiliates him

there shud be side villians, but mysterio shudnt be a villian until vanderbuilt writes the script for the next two. electro will be a villian eventually...

1. chameleon is a very serious, evil, "dastardly" (yes i said dastardly) mo fo. totally not right for campbell.

2. mysterio is a goofy character, totally perfect for campbell!

3. in spidey 2, campbell was a doorman for a live theatre. in the comics mysterio was a special effects specialist for big time hollywood movies. (thats where he gets his "powers" from) they could easily say he was also doing special effects work on those live shows. hey its a connection!

besides aunt may, peter has lost some close people, he doesn't really have any now, so i think that while lizard and kraven would be the obvious target of this 4th film, spidey's personal life would consist of new friends, max dillon and quentin beck would be good choices as pete's closest peeps outside of the mask.. but, like the dark path harry stumbled upon, the same would become of these guys.. and that way if the sinister six wouldn't somehow be ready by spiderman 6, then the 5th and 6th movies should have one of those two occupy one of the two films, and for a side villain, then put it scorpion and rhino, or something like that.. either way, the thing that make the first trilogy so strong was the fact that pete really did have an emotional, yet, personal connection to every villain he faced, if a random guy came up and fought him, it would take some of the magic away.. even with doc ock and sandman, ock was someone he got to know well as sort of a scholar-type mentor, much like connors would be with the lizard, this movie could very well match spiderman 2. and the sandman needed that connection to pete to make it strong, that's why they chose making him uncle ben's REAL killer.. in a way, as 'stuffed' as spiderman 3 was, it still really tied everything together nicely.. honestly, but if they brought in carnage, well, that would be different because the only really good way to bring a character like that in without a venom repeat would be to make him responsible for killing off either mj or gwen, that way the personal connection is established there, but still, the other charaters are far more likely to get over at this point, especially with raimi set to get back on track with the franchise, at this point with his vision and where it's headed. bruce campbell could very well work as a villain, i think he could pull off mysterio, scorpion, or chameleon for that matter.. and remember the talk of papajohn's character? the only things i could see him as are a minor flashback for spidey, or a quick transformation induced by chameleon or mysterio, but the latter i really don't see happening any time soon, or likely at all.. hey, it could be worse, at least they haven't or don't look like their gonna 'deadpool' anyone.. hmm.. speaking of which, we all know the worst thing they could ever do right now would be to take extreme liberties and resurrect venom into a hellbent carnage rebirth thing, where he kills mj or gwen to get back at peter, and then they morph venom and carnage into the same film character.. ugh, forget that, unless they want to intentionally kill off the franchise, but who would really wanna do that? haha just a thought, a bad one, but a thought none the less.

Raimi is having a laugh at the chin's expense! His role will be comedic and minor. I wish he would have a large role but I doubt it. Bruce campbell for superman/captain america/odin's beard e.t.c

you want peter to be friends with mysterio and electro before they become villains?? why? peter isn't known for having a ton of friends, he's got aunt may and MJ, and thats about it. they don't need to be his friends.

eh, i suppose your right, but i do see the look and feel of that new animated series spiderman show, with max being a college friend of peter's before the transformation, his look in that show was probably the best of all characters on it, and i feel as if with this movie, he can sort of fill that void that was left with the loss of harry in his life, sure he still has mj and aunt may, but max would be nice to kind of fill things out on the same level they were before, but on the other hand, just having aunt may and that strained relationship with mj carried on from 3, well, that could really show the impact on what went down from this trilogy, you know? also, by not adding many more close newcomers to pete, this would make his connection to connors a little more genuine, so to speak..
